MaxxHaul: Model 70225; Serial FS1903009654 This review is based on two events. First, the assembly, and second, the application. ASSEMBLY: The best feature of this implement is the instruction manual / parts catalog © 2012 edition. This document lists instructions on how to assemble, and in what order, as well as tabulating a set of specifications on one page while devoting an entire other page to a parts blowup with reference numbers and quantities. After reading this document and looking at the stuff that came in the box, it took roughly a half-hour to get wheelsup and ready to rock. The one slight improvement I would suggest is for prospective end-users to obtain sixteen (16) Grade-8, Metric size 10 or SAE size ½ inch flatwashers and put them under the bolt heads because the elongated bolt holes in the chassis can sure use a friend. ASSEMBLY RATING Four (4) stars. APPLICATION: It was necessary to use the swing-down trailer jack to get the dollie under the hitch receiver on the splitter tongue. My error was to not immediately chock the two load tires and the two dollie tires. When attempting to snap closed the ball lock, with the trailer and dollie un-chocked, the effect was to snap the dollie trailer ball out of the hitch receiver and then, just like a trebuchet, wing the tow arm right over the hitch, dropping the hitch to flat on the ground and narrowly missing my noggin. It was that fast. In order to recover the trailer it was necessary to employ the shop scissor jack under the frame and lift the tow bar to where the swing-down adjustable trailer jack could be re-deployed and the tow bar raised once again to where the 1-7/8” ball could slide in under the receiver. However, the triangular support iron under the dollie’s handle, when seated on the ground, put the trailer ball and supporting iron at an acute angle. This is what jammed up the ball lock before. The remedy was to raise and support the triangle with four inches of blocking that would afford the dollie frame to be perpendicular to the receiver, and that way the ball lock would operate correctly. Please note that when the ball was correctly seated and the trailer ball lock engaged, the dollie no longer would pop out of connection. The four chocks on the dollie wheels, plus the four chocks on the lot splitter wheels could then be removed and the rig manhandled over to the woodpile. It was necessary to pull out an old stakebody wooden utility trailer to set up next to the splitter. The trailer looks like it weighs little, but the frame is welded pieces of pipe. Once again I went and hooked things up without chocking all four wheels and the trailer dollie once again popped out and swung over, narrowly missing my noggin once again. Application Rating Four (4) stars. There’s no way for MaxxHaul to anticipate every app, and it behooves the end user to equip his dollie plant with all the correct PPE as the Real Step One. Photo 1: The receiver needs to be raised. Photo 2: The dollie handle seen right after popping over the hitch. Photo 3: The extra equipment needed to safely get my trailer dollie connected.

Inexpensive Trailer Dolly that allows me to easily adjust my pop up trailer inside my small, two car garage. It beats back breaking lifting and adjusting to position the trailer in a tight space. I wondered if the included 1 and 7/8 inch ball would work with my 2” ball hitch but there wasn’t an issue. An exact fit isn’t needed since you’re just making adjustments and not speeding down the highway at 70mph (but easy to swap out to a 2” ball if needed).

The MaxxTow Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Black Powder Coated Steel - 600 lbs does a wonderful job. Before I purchased it, I was concerned that having the hitch ball above a single axle would yield a situation where it was unstable (as indeed it would be if you lifted the handle significantly and then let go). In usage, however, I observed no such instability. It is well engineered such that one can pull the trailer and then lower the handle and it will remain in a safe position. The materials are quite strong enough for the job; I observed no straining or bending of the ball supports nor axle. The pictures show it attached to our partially loaded utility trailer. The trailer is 1200 - 1500 lb and the motor generator inside is 1200 lb. The dolly allows me to move the trailer inside our building without running an internal combustion engine and fouling the air. On the road, with the utility trailer as a second towed vehicle, it will allow disconnecting the utility trailer from the first trailer and moving it out of the way to allow backing the first trailer.

Bought this to move my 14 ft travel trailer around in my garage and it works great. I had to change the ball to match my hitch but that is no big deal. It makes it easy to move the trailer around as my garage has very limited side clearance around the trailer. Very pleased with the product and have recommended it to several of my neighbors who also own small trailers. It is great for maneuvering boat trailers also.

The dolly is still working great-it makes it easy to move the trailer into my storage building without hitting the sides.Great product.

Love this little dolly!! Well built and really does the trick. I can maneuver my 14' boat and trailer from my drive, over my lawn and up a slight incline to it's storage place very easily. I'm not a young person anymore and this really helps.

- MT70225

Had to weld a higher extension on the ball with a brace to make the perfect height for my truck hitch . But it work out great

- MT70225

First, owning a dolly is a must. I move a 1200lb trailer and a 1800lb trailer around. Use it all the time. What don’t like is the grips slide off. I could buy bicycle grips but I think the manufacturing spec should have better grip material. But price/use. Well worth it!

I like this dolly. It's made with quality materials. The large pneumatic tires make moving the boat easier. After one summer next to the boat in a drysail area there was some rust developing so this past winter I repainted and also used a rust converter. This dolly is head and shoulders above most of the other dollies in the drysail area!

Comments
Great. I really like the larger tires as it makes moving the trailer much easier. Pneumatic tires are great on gravel parking lots, too. I did repaint it to eliminate small amounts of rust. It is out in the weather at a drysail marina.

I have a 16 foot enclosed trailer that is approximately 6 ft wide. I have customized it with diamond plate and there's a whole bunch of stuff in it. I was going to purchase a $580 geared trailer Dolly because I was afraid that I would need assistance moving my trailer. I went with this product, and guess what it really works. I don't know what people are complaining about, there is only about 4 nuts and bolts that are required to put this thing together not including the ball which easily attaches. I literally had this thing together in less than 10 minutes. I did everything hand tight then I took two sockets to tighten on each side of the nut and bolt. I used the trailer dolly for the first time tonight after inflating the tires. I used my Harbor Freight air compressor I put in between 38 and 40 lb on each tire. I was able to easily move the trailer which was quite shocking to be frank, Plus I was able to easily maneuver the trailer as well. I live in a manufactured home park so I am parking my trailer which is about 8 feet high on my carport. I have a three-car carport and putting my trailer on the carport in the first position saved me about $100 per month in storage fees. I will have to move my trailer each time I want to use it with my RV to go on an RV trip with my motorcycle. This trailer dolly is without a doubt without equal as far as cost benefit. Now I do have an inclined portion of my carport from the street in the manufactured home park. I did need my wife to push of the back of the trailer because my trailer is very heavy to get it onto my carport. Once it got to the level area I was easily able to move the trailer on my own. I do caution you that if there's going to be an incline you are probably going to want somebody behind you pushing the trailer if it's as heavy as mine. I am very happy with my purchase and I highly suggest that you get one yourself. My trailer does have a 2in hitch so I am going to be putting a 2-inch ball on my trailer dolly just to ensure that it is locked in. With the one and 7/8 ball with a 2-inch hitch it does come out even with the latch down. Balls are very cheap at other stores

I ordered the pictured trailer dolly as I was looking for a method to move my personal watercraft trailer. My driveway is sloped and the storage pad where the trailer is kept is adjacent to my home and gated. The entry through the gate is rather narrow and to back the trailer into the storage pad is difficult. Looking to maneuver the trailer easily was my goal and I had considered several powered trailer dollies but their cost is prohibitive. I came upon the manual dolly on [online] and ordered it finding it's cost reasonable and its features seemingly filling the bill. It arrived ahead of schedule and my wife and I assembled it in about half and hour. We found that it's height was within about half an inch of my truck's trailer hitch height, which was perfect. It maneuvers the trailer precisely and easily, allowing me to back it close to its storage area and then push it into position with little effort. Everything about the whole transaction was simple straightforward and exactly as I expected. Further, I've found a resource in etrailer.com that I will use often for my trailering needs.

Comments
Very well!! I eventually purchased a electrically powered trailer dolly as I had also acquired an 18 foot car hauler trailer which is a bit too heavy to move with The Maxxtow dolly, though small movements can be made. The Maxxtow dolly is still used to position and move my other jet ski trailer after the larger car hauler is located. All in all, a very convenient accessory to my collection of wheeled conveyances.

Does the job. This is very well built. I was able to move this 600 lb. camper in and out of my shed. Easier to maneuver than with a small tractor in the tight space. The only thing I could want more out of this dolly is to have a park break. Having a slight slope I needed to put stop blocks inside the shed before moving the trailer in. I'd suggest having a second person help if you have any slope to your parking area. Glad I bought this.

Dolly is simple, but perfect for my needs. I use it to move my pop up camper from my backyard to the front where I can hook up to my truck. Works great for this purpose

- MT70225
by:

I'm able to turn my popup 180 degrees by myself. My driveway is off an alley, so backing in isn't an option. I drive in as if parking in the garage, unhook and turn the trailer around and out of the way. The only problem I've had is when the dolly is 90 degrees to the trailer the dolly wheel contacts the front jack and won't move unless I back off. Not a fault of the dolly, I'm just working in a very tight space.

Nice product; I can now move my 500 lb trailer up and down my sloped driveway and into my garage without (too) much effort. The large diameter wheels help reduce effort but unfortunately the tires can rub against the trailer hitch when making a very tight turn which can cause issues in tight quarters.

This is just what I needed to maneuver my small camper trailer around my drive way. It's short and hard to back up and this helps a lot. It seems well built and assembled quite easily. Ah yes the tires are large enough if I have trouble backing into a camp site I can use it to get where I need to be. Perfect.

Quality of dolly is excellent but assembly instructions are below average, particularly in the description of the hardware used. Fortunately the assembly was rather simple. I use the MaxxTow Trailer Dolly to move a 6x10 utility trailer in and out of a gravel covered parking area. GVW is 3200 lbs and tongue weight is about 400 lbs. The dolly works well for me and makes the maneuvering of my utility trailer quite easy.

As many others have pointed out - poor instructions, so just look at the pictures, put the bolts in loosely to start, and then tighten everything. Moves our Scamp travel trailer (1300 pounds, 190 pound tongue weight) easily over uneven gravel pad that is grown in with grass. Would be an absolute breeze on a hard surface. Very well-built of heavy steel. Shipping was dang near instantaneous!

Trailer dolly MT70225 arrived a day late due to the adverse weather conditions in Nashville, TN. No problem. Packaging carton by Etrailer and the packaging by Maxxtow was outstanding. The only complaint I had was that the Parts List on page 5 of the Instruction Manual & Parts Catalog did not agree with hardware that was received. It appears Maxxtow has updated the type of hard-ware provided and has not updated the parts list. I at first thought parts were short. That could be confusing to some people. Cosmetic only. If they update assembly diagram and parts list they need to also update the instructions in Page 4, paragraphs 1 thru 7.

  • Trailer Dolly Compatibility with Lock N Roll Hitch
A standard trailer dolly like # MT70225 is not directly compatible with the Lock N Roll hitch system. There is not a dolly designed to work with that system, however if you were to use a similar system with the ability to attach to a hitch ball, then a dolly could be utilized. I recommend instead of the Lock N Roll you could use the Ark Articulating Off-Road Coupler for 2" Receivers - Trailer Side - 2" Ball # AR44FR which works with a hitch ball and thus would work with a dolly.

The MaxxTow Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Black Powder Coated Steel - 600 lbs # MT70225 is far too small an option for your trailer. This style tow dolly has a max weight of 600 lbs total weight so your 4,500 lb dry weight is far exceeding capacity. The CE Smith Heavy Duty Trailer Dolly with 1-7/8" Hitch Ball - Black - 700 lbs # CE27550 is the only one rated for tongue weight and that would work, but you would most likely need a different hitch ball size. The reason this uses a 1-7/8 inch ball is because that is the smallest size ball which ensures that it will fit into every coupler. A coupler would not need to get securely latched to the ball of this dolly since you would only be moving it a few feet. You wouldn't have to worry about the trailer becoming disconnected from the dolly because gravity would hold it down. Also, if this was latched to a coupler and...

  • Will MaxxTow Trailer Dolly work with 750 lb Trailer
Sorry, the MaxxTow # MT70225 is only rated for trailers weighing up to 600 pounds. You could use the Trailer Valet # TVXL2 which has a capacity of 10,000 pounds.

  • What is the Axle Diameter for MaxxTow Trailer Dolly
We actually use the MaxxTow trailer dolly, # MT70225, here to move trailers around when needed. So I took some digital calipers outside and measured the diameter of the axle. It is just under 1 inch (0.98 inches). I also made a video for you showing the calipers at that measurement.

  • Recommended Trailer Movers for 6 x 12 Enclosed Trailer
The MaxxTow Trailer Dolly # MT70225 is an ideal way to move an empty trailer around the garage or driveway. Dual all-terrain pneumatic tires provide solid traction on many surfaces and the included 1-7/8-inch hitch ball fits all coupler sizes. If you think the trailer's weight may be too much for unassisted one-person moving then a product like the Trailer Valet # STC-V211 might interest you more. This product functions as BOTH a swing-up trailer jack and a trailer mover that can be...

  • Recommended Trailer Dolly for 16 Foot Long Enclosed Trailer
The tongue weight and total weight will be important factors in choosing the correct trailer dolly, but I'll give you some general options that would cover different possibilities. If the total weight of the trailer is 10k-lbs or less, and the tongue weight is less than 1000-lbs, I recommend going with the Trailer Valet XL since it's going to allow you more control of the trailer. The Trailer Valet XL has a handle that allows for easy steering, a chain drive system to help make moving...

  • Large VS Smaller Diameter Wheels and Tires For Trailer Dolly
Larger Tires will be able to roll over obstacles easier and are less likely to sink into soft spots due to a larger surface area. The amount of force required to move will also go down with the larger wheels. Be sure to check the height of your frame when you operate the dolly. If the tires are to big they can contact your frame and reduce maneuverability. With solid tires you won't have to worry about flat tires and maintaining air pressure. But you will lose the flex that a pneumatic...

  • Is Weight Capacity of MaxxTow Trailer Dolly # MT70225 for Trailer Weight or Tongue Weight
The total trailer weight capacity associated with the MaxxTGow Trailer Dolly # MT70225 is 600 pounds. They do not state the rated tongue weight. You might assume that if your trailer was properly loaded with no more than 15% of the total weight supported at the tongue, that it then could hold around 90 pounds.

  • Dolly Recommendation for Moving Utility Trailer In and Out of Garage
The MaxxTow dolly # MT70225 is designed for much lighter trailer than what you have. For something similar that would make getting the trailer in and out very easy you'd want the part # TVXL2 which has a crank handle that turns the dolly wheel so that you aren't having to drag the trailer around. I attached a review video for this for you to check too.
