Ellen: Hey, everyone. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com, and today we're going to be taking a look at the MaxxTow coupler lock. So this is going to keep your trailer secure by not allowing anybody to take that coupler off of your hitch ball while you're parked somewhere, or also to hook up to it when it's unhitched. So no one's going to be able to open that coupler up to connect and run off with your trailer. So it's a little bit of added security to your rig, gives you the peace of mind to leave your trailer parked somewhere overnight, and a deterrent to any kind of would be thieves. So it's a pretty simple lock. We'll take a closer look at it.
It's just going to be this turnkey to open that up. So it just fits on the front of that coupler latch. That key is a threaded cylinder, so as we turn that, it's going to open this up and create more space. So then we can swing this little guy around and open that up off of the pin. Take that off and we can see a little bit closer.
See the thread's in there, so as you turn that key inside, that's going to be what threads out this bolt. Now you might be saying, well what's preventing somebody from just grabbing a screwdriver and adjusting thatThe only time you can turn this cylinder is when that key is fully engaged, so if you try to pull this key halfway out, it won't come out unless. the little top portion is pointed up towards the top. So it has to be facing up for it to come out. Even if I push this in about halfway, it doesn't allow me to turn that cylinder.
So you don't have to worry about anybody tampering with that lock and opening it with anything, that'd be fine laying around. That key has to be fully inserted before you can make any adjustments there. Because that was one of the first things I noticed about it was, seems like this would be easy to bust into, but it really does work. The overall construction is a carbon steel. The black portion is an E coat, so it should be pretty corrosion resistant and durable so it can stay out in the wind, rain and snow. Shouldn't have any issues there.
It does come with the two keys so you can put one in your truck, have the other one on your key chain, stash one at home, whatever you want to do with that there. Give one to your buddy or your partner. Opening this back up, you flip that around. Whenever it comes to locking this into place, you'll just want to tighten it as much as possible and then back it out a little bit until you can get the alignment right for getting the key back out. Like I mentioned, it has to kind of be in a specific spot to take the key out.So as I turn this all the way tight. it's nice and tight there. Just turn it maybe an eighth of a turn to get it back to center, and then you can remove that key. So it still allows you to do that. The pin diameter for the lock is a quarter inch. The length of the span is three quarters of an inch. So I'll open that all the way up, we can take a little closer look at that. Flip that around. So about three quarters of an inch of usable space. The entire pin length is about an inch, but three quarters should allow you enough space to make sure that there's clearance for getting that in place. That's pretty much all there is to it. It is meant to be used with your standard latch style ball couplers, and should be an easy to use accessory to keep your trailer safe while you're parked somewhere overnight. Thanks for watching.
