Video Transcript for Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock Review

Today on our trailers, we're going to take a look at the Master Lock adjustable trailer coupler lock, part number 2847DAT. Let's go ahead and see what it looks like on our trailer. Here we have our stainless steel lock rod and tumbler. As you can see, the tumbler is in a nice rubber-coated housing. We open the cap on it and we can open up the key and tumbler inside. What's really nice about it having a cap is it's going to help keep out that dirt, dust, debris, and especially moisture and will prevent corrosion over time. Provided with the lock is also two keys. We can take the key, rotate the tumbler, and remove the lock rod.

As you can see, the lock rod has multiple locking points for different sizes and styles of trailer coupler latches. For this one, we can go ahead and take the lock rod, feed it through the latch, pushing it up tight against the latch, and then take the key and tumbler, slide it on, rotate it, remove the key, put our cap back on. Now our tumbler is locked to the rod, and the latch on our coupler is locked. If it was already on our vehicle and locked to the trailer ball, it couldn't be removed, adding security to our trailer from theft. Now, to remove our lock, we simply take our key into the tumbler, rotating it so we can slide the lock rod out, and we're ready to unlock our trailer and load it up on our vehicle. There you have it for the install, operation, and review of the Master Lock adjustable trailer coupler lock, part number 2847DAT. .

The lock worked very well. It fit perfectly into the existing hitch pin hole. The variable length on the lock shaft allowed me to snug up the lock to the hitch mechanism which I think will make it more difficult for any thief to cut or remove the lock. The key operation was simple and easy. I use the lock pin when my trailer is attached to my vehicle and also when it is not attached so as to serve as a secondary trailer coupler lock and not allow the coupler to be opened for thieves to insert their ball hitch and steal the trailer and boat. Great product. 752775

Ask the Experts about this Master Lock Trailer Coupler Locks

  • Can Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Locks be Keyed Alike?
Though we do have many coupler locks which can be keyed alike, unfortunately the Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock, # 2847DAT, is not one of them. There is an adjustable coupler lock which offers plenty of convenience in the BOLT Trailer Coupler Lock, # BL7025289. This lock can be coded to the ignition key of your 2004 Toyota Tundra so you do not have to carry any extra keys. I have added a link to a review of this lock, as well as the link to our page displaying each of our...

  • Stainless Steel Trailer Coupler Lock for a Trailer Buddy XR-84 Surge Brake Actuator
The Master Lock adjustable trailer coupler lock # 2847DAT will work with your Trailer Buddy XR-84 surge brake actuator because it has a 1/4 inch diameter pin. The Trailer Buddy can accommodate coupler locks with diameters of 1/4 and 5/16 inches. It can adjust to accommodate widths of 5/8, 1 or 2 inch couplers. It is also stainless steel per your request. Another style to consider is the trailer coupler lock that codes to early model GM keys. For example, the Bolt coupler lock # BL7025283...

  • Pin or Lock Recommendation for a Yoke Latch Coupler
It sounds like you are talking about a latch pin which would go through the latch and prevent it from opening. It isn't a necessary part but usually what people do with the latch holes is use a latch lock. I recommend Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock - Stainless Steel Item # 2847DAT because it is adjustable to fit latches with different widths from 5/8 inch wide to 2 inch wide. The pin has a 1/4 inch diameter which is the most common latch hole size. I have linked a video review...

  • Coupler Lock With 1/4 Inch Diameter Pin Recommendation
For our hitch receivers, we offer hitch receiver locks that have either 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch diameter pins. Depending on what you intend to use the locking pin for we do have other options available. We carry locking coupler pins that may work for you. The first lock I recommend is the Master Lock Adjustable Trailer Coupler Lock, part # 2847DAT. This is a 1/4 inch diameter pin that has a keyed lock and is adjustable to fit lengths of 5/8 inch, 1 inch, and 2 inch. Another coupler lock...

  • Which Coupler Lock Set is Best for Use with Atwood Trailer Coupler 81911
The Atwood Trailer Coupler 81911 that you have on your A-frame trailer can be locked in two ways, by securing the latch and by blocking entry of a hitch ball. The latch mechanism on the top can be locked with an item like the Dead Bolt # e98884. (This latch lock is one of the two locks included in part # e99039, which is our reference for the CT Johnson part RHC32.) This lock has a covered key slot that will help prevent corrosion. I have attached a product review video you can check out. I reviewed the specs for the Airstream International travel trailers and while they appear to have a standard latch coupler, the one I saw in photos does appear to have a curved lip which could potentially interfere with some coupler locks. • Pin Style Coupler Lock Recommendation that Requires at 9/16 inch Span
A snug fit is preferred when picking out a pin style coupler lock for a trailer coupler. If you have 9/16 of an inch from the outer edges of the latch on your coupler I wouldn't recommend going with a 1/2 inch span lock as it would be too short and wouldn't latch. Instead I would go with the Master Lock Coupler Lock part # 2847DAT as it can be adjusted down to a 5/8 inch span and would work well for you. I attached an install video for this lock for you to check out as well.

I recommend measuring to make sure. If you get a width that is less than 2 inches and has a hole for a lock that is 1/4 inches or less in diameter, this lock will fit.
