Howdy neighbor, Adam here with etrailer. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Fastway universal coupler lock. So whether you're just like me and you have one trailer and you don't want it to run off, or if you own a business and you have multiple trailers and they're all on your lot, you want to make sure that they are nice and safe, and this is going to be a nice theft deterrent to keep your trailer nice and safe and in place where you left it. The cool thing about these is we do have a lot of different key codes. So if you have a massive fleet for your business and you want to have them all keyed differently, you could do that. Or if you have a couple of trailers at your house that are just for your personal use, you can get them all keyed alike.
So you don't have to fumble around with a bunch of keys. The design of this is really nice. So it is going to work with all different size couplers. So you take our key in there, we twist it left, and as you can see, this little piece right here is going to fit in our two inch coupler, also your inch and seven eighths coupler. And of course your two and five sixteenths coupler, go ahead and put it in like this.
And depending on what kind of coupler that you have, usually they're going to work. So to give you a list of exactly which ones they're going to work with, they are going to be compatible with an A-frame, a straight channel round tongue flat plate, or any surge type couplers. Anything with a trigger pin, thumb, or wrap around a yoke latches is also going to work. So for our easy latch here, it works perfect. Even for some of our smaller couplers, it does hang on.
And even if I we're to kind of try to rotate this thing around, I really am just going to damage the coupler itself to get it off. It doesn't seem like it's really on there, but this thing is not going anywhere. So we tried all the couplers on all of the trailers back here, and they all worked. There is one limitation that you might have. If you do have a coupler that's any wider than four and a half inches, it's not going to fit just because this bar isn't going to be wide enough for it.
So make sure you make your measurements. And if that is less than four and a half inches, and that's your width of your coupler, you should be good to go. We're going to have a hardened steel construction, and this is going to be nickel plated. And it has a nice chrome plated finish to it. Another feature that's going to make this a lot harder to get into is the lock. This is going to be a drill proof lock. Someone did try to drill this out. It isn't going to give at all, even if they we're to completely drill all the way through, this thing's still going to be locked into place. So that being said, I think the lock is going to keep it nice and safe. And even all the plating and coding, even if you are on the coast, some people saw a little bit of surface rust after a year or so of you. So just be mindful of that. If you are on the coast, you're going to get rust. And that's basically with anything that you put on your coupler. If someone we're to get a crowbar in there, I really don't think they're going to be able to do much at all. If anything, they're going to take off this lip a little bit, but it's not really going to come undone. At the end of the day we're just looking for a theft deterrent. We're just trying to keep honest people honest. And with this I really think it has enough things in place that people aren't even going to try to attempt it. If they do, maybe an angle grinder, maybe going at it for about 30 seconds or so, you might be able to get it, but that's with any type of lock. But I do think that this is going to be one of the most universal and we're the ones that I would put on my trailers. It's going to fit. And it really is going to take a lot of effort to get this thing off. And the keys are super unique. So you don't have to worry about them trying to pick it. But that's basically it for our look at the Fastway universal coupler lock. And I'm Adam with etrailer..

The Fastway lock gets only three stars based on the slop in the lock left once you ratchet u-lock into the base. It is a concern that a theft could pry it over ball coupler. etrailer customer service and prompted shipping was 5 star. etrailer as a distributor of Fastway, please pass this review on.

I think the Fastway Trailer Coupler lock is one of the best Toy Hauler locks on the market. It's a solid well constructed tough product, and reasonably priced...it gives you an extra edge of securing your Toy Hauler when your out of town at Car Shows/Cruis'ens and you can even reverse it on certain makes of trailers depending on how the trailer tongue/coupler is constructed/designed which makes the key slot even more difficult to get at. etrailer is one of the best companies to do business that I have run across in a long time. There Customers Service Reps are excellent well trained individuals that have good customer service manners and follow ups...keep doing what you do best. Your on the same playing field as [racing company] and a couple of other businesses that have excellent customer service reputations...

The ball lock I purchased from etrailer.com is the perfect tool for the job. It has several locking positions for different height tongue assemblies and one which was perfect for mine. The lock is smaller than the one I replaced, rendering it much less obtrusive. The chrome coloring also helps it blend better with the hitch, so if you use it while camping your trailer has a “friendlier” appearance to fellow campers. I really like the fact it came with 4 keys and case hardening makes it even safer and lighter than my old lock. Best of all, however, was the superb customer service I received from etrailer.com. Before, during, and yes, even after I received my lock they followed up to make sure I was happy. 5 star service. Would definitely recommend them to my trailering friends.

very strong and sturdy BUT has two small problems the reason for not giving 4-5 stars they have to be removed and oiled every three months if you don't you will have hell of a time unlocking them, at first you think the key is not working and then you think that the lock has jammed to aid in this aggravation the lock will not release unless you keep key turned ( not spring loaded, they saved money by not adding this feature)(mistake)a a bit hard to hit hitch with hammer and keep key turned and not break key also tolerance is way to tight which of course leads to main reason for it seizing up. Fix the key and a little most tolerance or do not use it for long term storage. yes I kept the lock clean of dirt and debris.

Great hitch lock - haven't had a generator stolen yet with one of these deployed on the hitch. Downside is that the finish isn't Chrome - it's a mylar film that will peel off, and can cut you (personal experience)

The lock seems extremely robustly made. My trailer has a wide flange around the coupler and the stepped design of the bail fits perfectly. The circular keyway is secure and the casting is smooth. The teeth on both sides of the bail provide more secure latching than my one-sided prior lock. The main lock piece is smooth on the bottom preventing someone from hooking under the lock and just towing the trailer away. My prior lock had a lip that allowed the trailer to be moved with a tow hook. My only complaint is that it came with two very sharp, very pointy metal pins sticking out of the bail, maybe to secure it in the package. I had to get a pair of pliers to remove these before they ripped my hands up.

I think this is the best bang for you buck. Nice beefy lock. I was able to buy multiple locks for 3 trailers all keyed the same. It fits skinny or wide tongue configurations. Im in a cold winter climate, they will freeze up, but that is with any lock that you buy. Keep a little handy torch in the trailer to warm it up, takes only a minute. Ive had these for a little over a year with no problems.
