Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at some trailer security. Basically what we have here is a coupler lock from Buyers. I really like the design of this lock. I think it's different than some of the standard pins and locks that just slide on. They call this more of a wing style or a butterfly style. So we've got a pin that goes through the coupler hole, and then we'll use our key.
And as we screw that in, it draws it together. It keeps everything nice and secure. Now whether you're a new trailer owner or an existing trailer owner, trailer security is something you do want to keep in mind. It's going to help prevent your trailer from disappearing. Nothing worse than going to the storage lot to pick up your boat and it's not there.
You know what I mean So this is going to give you a lot of peace of mind. It's not that difficult to use. And overall, it's going to provide years of good service. When we take it off it's actually serviceable inside. So unlike a lot of other locks to where they can get corrosion in there and not work, because these do generally stay outside. This we can service and make sure it works for years. Now as far as if would own this lock, I certainly would.
The aspect of being able to get in there and maintain it I think is going to make this probably the last lock you'll have to buy for your trailer. I'm not too concerned with ball mount security. I use just the cheap ones. So it's not really a big issue there for me, but if you have an aluminum or a nicer ball mount it might be a good idea to protect that as well.As far as the other straight coupler locks. I like that we don't have the accessibility very well in there to that pin.
It's going to make it much harder to bypass and what we have with just a pin that sticks through and a lock that slides on. Those can be cut pretty easily. Where in this situation, it's really not an issue.Overall, as you can see, there's a nice finished quality here to it. Going to help to resist some corrosion with that finish on it. And then it does come with the two keys. That's of course, going to let you store one and keep one in an extra spot in case you forget a set.But here's something that I really like. While you don't have to remove this side to get it to lock, right You can just move that out of the way, slide it through your coupler and bring that back in. If you do decide that you want to remove this completely, there's a little O-ring here. We're going to take that O-ring off. With that O-ring off we can now access our tumbler and the key way. You see as we bring our key in and out that moves those up and down so we can open it or not open it. But you can service this. So if it starts to get a little bit tight or doesn't want to cooperate, just use a little bit of lubricant in there, and of course in that housing, and it's going to be right back to new.So this isn't going to be something you're going to have to replace every year, every two years, because it's corroded and it just won't work properly anymore. If it starts to get a little bit tight, we'll just take it apart, run some lubrication in there and it will be back good as new. You see, pretty easy to get put right back together. As far as what this is going to work on, you can see our pin right here. It's designed for a 1/4" hole. So a lot of couplers are going to have that size. The actual usable width of it here is going to be about 3/4". And then from the inside of the pin to the barrel here, it's about 5/8". So as long as that fits into your range, this will be a good product. I only like to open it up about that far, place it in, rotate it over. And then as we turn the key, of course that's going to bring that together. Gives us really good security. Now at that point, we'll know whether it's connected to our truck. We don't have to worry about it coming loose, but also if we've got it stored somewhere, it's not going anywhere..

Butterfly-style coupler lock helps prevent theft of your trailer, whether it's hitched to your tow vehicle or in storage. Lock with 3/4" span and 1/4" pin diameter secures most trigger-style coupler latches. Zinc-plating resists rust. The product is better than average, however VERY disappointed that I could not order locks KEYED-A-LIKE. I have several trailers and I find it very disturbing I have to have several keys. Yet per the video it's easy to change the pins. I do not want to learn lock smithing.
I ordered a spare tire holder for my boat trailer. The tire holder needed to be angled away from the boat on the trailer. I found exactly what I was looking for on etrailer.com, but it was expensive! I found out why it cost so much when the trailer holder arrived...the product was made with excellent workmanship and material, I was very surprised by the quality of this item. The sales team at etrailer was very professional and helpful...since my initial order I have no ordered other items and have been very happy with the online help I have received.
Seems to work and great price. Four stars because you it feels a little cheap.
Works 100%. Very happy. Thank you very much.
Get what you get for the price..does not work the best on 2 5/16th coupler. Should have listened to the sales associate who tried to tell me so.
I have had this before and really liked it. I left it on my bumper and forgot it was there. This is why I am getting new.
good product
