Video Transcript for Rackem Wheel Chocks RA-17 Review

Today we're going to taking a look at the Rackem manufacturing removable wheel chock. The wheel chock is going help stabilize your motorcycle, dirt bike, or other small vehicle for transport. The chock itself is going to remove to free up space when not in use, just leaving the base installed in the floor of your trailer, or whatever your mounting location is. The unit's going to feature tubular steel construction, it's going to create strong, durable, system. It's going to have that extreme wear hammered paint finish, which is going to protect the chock from abuse. That's a simple bolt on installation. You would simply attach the base to the floor of the trailer, you could also attach it to the floor of your shop, or anywhere else you want to use it.

Mounting hardware to get the base installed is not included. The units going to contain mounting holes. It does come with two wing nut style bolts, to get the chock installed to the base, that's these right here. When you're ready to remove the chock, all you have to do, is take these wing nut style bolts and remove them, just like that. Then you would talk the chock, slide it up, and then remove it from the holds here on the base.

Really nice design, so when this is removed, this is going to be the only portion that's going to be remaining at the mounting location. When you're ready to use the chock, simply slide it back into those holds, push it back, and then reinstall the wing nut style bolts. The base where these are threading in, has the threads built in, so it does not require a nut on the bottom side. It allows for quick and easy attachment and detachment of the chock to the base. Really nice design. A few measurements to go over with you real quick. If we take a measurement from the bottom of the base tot he top of the chock, measuring to this point here, that's going to give us a measurement of about 8 9/16 of an inch tall.

From front to back, the unit is going to give us a measurement, to this point here, of 13 1/4 of an inch. This is designed to fit tire widths up to 6 1/2 inches wide. The mount holes on the unit, measuring these right here, these are going to be separated on center, on each mounting brace. That looks to measure 1 1/8 of an inch, and these holes are going to have a diameter of 1/4 of an inch. From the center of one mounting brace to the center of the other, going this direction, that's going to give us a measurement of about 8 1/4.

Then if we measure across, going this direction, from the center of mount hole, to the center of the mount hole on the other side, that's going to give a measurement of 9 3/4 of an inch. The base, that's going to give us an overall width measurement of 10 1/2 inches, by 10 1/4. That's going to do it for today's look at the Rackem manufacturing removable wheel chock.

I bought two of these to go on an open 4 x 8 trailer. They were very easy to install and being removable, still leave the trailer available for other uses. The quality is superb... very pleased. 442434

Product arrive as scheduled. I mounted the wheel chock in my trailer and it looks good. Tried resting my bike in it and it is going to work well. My bike has a low profile tire and dual brake rotors. This chock is going to work just fine. 303418

Ask the Experts about this Rackem Wheel Chocks
Do you have a question about this Wheel Chock?

  • How to Tie Down a Motorcycle in a 7x14 Foot Enclosed Trailer
  • If I were you I would go the route of using a wheel chock like our Rackem Wheel Chock # RA-17 and then use the E-tracks to tie down your bike by compressing the forks. The other method you described where you said you wanted to hang the bikes could possibly work but most likely if you were to hit bumps in the road your bike might bounce and become unattached and fall. The E-Track 2 inch D-Ring # E59143 would work well with a set of tie-downs like the Erickson Cargo Tie Downs # 05605....

  • Using E-Track, Tie-Downs, and Wheel Chocks to Haul 2 Harley Davidson Motorcycles
  • If I were to haul to Harleys I would make it as safe as possible so a wheel chock would not be a bad idea. Using the E-track is also a good way to go because the track is so versatile. Using a steel plate for support is also the way to go. You have a good grasp on what needs to be done. For a wheel chock, you can use something like # RA-17. It accepts wheels up to 6.5 inches wide. Might I also suggest the motorcycle tie-down assist straps, # 06303. Using these straps on the handle bars...

  • Removable Wheel Chock Recommendation for an MVP Toy Hauler Trailer and Harley Davidson Motorcycles
  • For an wheel chock that is easily removable, I recommend the Rackem chock, # RA-17. This chock has a base that mounts to the trailer floor and the chock part can easily be removed by loosening the wing nuts at the front. This chock accepts wheels up to 6-1/2 inches wide.

  • How is the Rackem Wheel Chock # RA-17 Removable
  • The Rack'em wheel chock # RA-17 is actually 2 separate pieces. The base will be permanently installed to the trailer floor. The chock part is removable. It uses 2 wing nuts, included, and the bottom of the chock has pins that fit in special slots on the top of the base. I made a video showing you all of this that will appear on this page.

  • Using the Rackem Wheel Chock #RA-17 for Harleys with Custom Wheels
  • The Rack'em Manufacturing Removable Wheel Chock part # RA-17 that you referenced measures 8-9/16" from base to top of chock and can accommodate a tire that is up to 6-1/2 inches wide. You would need to compare those dimensions to the wheel setups you have on both Harleys to see if this would fit. Another option is the MaxxTow Adjustable Wheel Chock # MT70075. I attached a picture a customer sent us that shows it being used with an Ultra Classic that has a very similar fender as your...

Your Go Buddy 50cc Scooter has a tire that is about 17 inches in diameter and 3-1/2 inches wide on a 10 inch wheel. That means this wheel chock will be a good fit for your application. • Will MaxxTow Motorcycle Wheel Chock Fit a Tire with a Wrap Around Fender
  • MaxxTow adjustable wheel chock # MT70075 could potentially work on a motorcycle tire with a wrap around fender. It all depends on the specifics. The chock measures 24" long x 9-3/4" wide x 12-7/8" tall overall. At the front of the wheel where the chock will be the tallest it is 12-7/8 inches up from the mounting surface. Take a look at the picture a customer sent us that I have included. Tires don't get much more surrounded than that (well, some Indian fenders) so I would say there...

  • Does Rack Em Manufacturing Removable Wheel Chock # RA-17 Include the Base Assembly
  • Yes, the base portion of the Rack 'Em Manufacturing Removable Wheel Chock # RA-17 is included with the chock. The base installs with user-supplied hardware (8 fasteners are needed) and the chock can be easily removed, leaving only the base on the deck of your trailer. That includes the total weight of the bike regardless of whether or not some of the weight is transferred to the rear axle. The manufacturer does not recommend using this carrier for bikes that exceed total 800 pound weight limit. The tallest portion of the chock is 8-9/16 inches.
