Note: A breakaway system is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes and have a GTW of at least 3,000 lbs.

Quick Tips:

When you store your trailer, be sure to keep the pin plugged into the breakaway switch. If the pin's removed for an extended period of time, dirt and moisture can get into the switch and cause corrosion that could keep it from activating when you need it.
A breakaway system needs to be able to apply the trailer brakes fully for at least 15 minutes. In general, the heavier your trailer, the higher amperage battery you'll need for the breakaway.

Incomplete wiring harness! Worst of all the battery was bad. not just dead but 3 bad cells. After exchange, the replacement battery will just barely hold 12 volts. My guess is that Carlisle is foisting off 6 to 10 year old batteries onto it's customers! But, through all of these problems, eTrailer has been a champ!! They worked to get Carlisle to agree that it did indeed need replaced. Carlisle did not believe that I knew how to hook up the wires to the battery!!! They made me get it tested and get a statement from the place with printout that it was bad!! I really had to search for a place that would go on record saying it was bad. NEVER, NEVER buy ANY CARLISLE PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You'll want to use the Hydrastar unit rated for drum brakes, because if you used the disc brake model which operates at a higher pressure you'd likely blow the wheel cylinder seals out pretty quickly. Breakaway Battery Kit Needed for HydraStar Actuator on Triple Axle Trailer
Unless your state requires a 9AH battery you actually only need a 5AH battery for a HydraStar EOH actuator. For example, the HydraStar # HBA16 which is rated for disc brakes is compatible with a 5AH breakaway battery kit. Since you need a breakaway battery kit that is compatible with up to a triple axle trailer I recommend the Tekonsha # 50-85-313 because it has a built-in charger, is a top load so it's easy to read, comes with a test button, and is DOT compliant. I have the perfect solution for you. Take a look at the Cargo Towing Solutions Hydrastar XL # HBAC10-CLR. With this electric over hydraulic actuator there is no need for a hard-wired brake controller in the tow vehicle. Recommended Break Away System for Triple Axle 40 Foot Gooseneck
The regulations state that the when the breakaway pin is pulled, the brakes should be able to hold the trailer for no less than 15 minutes. A 10A system wouldn't be sufficient for a triple-axle trailer as large as your, the Cargo Towing Solutions # HBA-EBA 17A system you'd looked at is exactly what I'd recommend using.
