Jake: Hey guys, it's Jake with etrailer. Today we're going to be taking a look at the Bright Way Push to Test Breakaway Kit. This is going to be a breakaway kit that you're going to put on your trailer to be able to help you in those situations that you might have an emergency and your trailer breaks away from your vehicle, whether it's an issue with your coupler or with your chains, it's going to pull the breakaway pin and bring your trailer to a safe, slow stop. The kit is going to come with this battery box that's going to have a one amp charger built into it. Now this kit does not come included with a battery, so you will need to pick one of those up. We do have plenty here at etrailer. And of course it's going to include your breakaway switch.
This is going to be the main component of the breakaway kit because this is going to give the brakes your signal to slow down when you have that emergency situation. All it's going to do is pull this pin when you have that emergency situation. This is going to send a signal to your box, which is going to apply the brakes on your trailer. Now one thing that I liked, that bright way group included on their battery box, they included a nice wiring diagram that's going to last through the weather, so you'll be able to see it if any of your wires we're to come unhooked from your connections. They also included a battery tester, so by pushing this test button and holding it, you can see the strength of what your battery is. It'll say if you need to recharge your battery, but if you have it hooked up with the any other batteries on your trailer, you should be okay. Now we'll go ahead and show you a mock example of what your breakaway kit is going to do for your trailer.
So go ahead and spin our tires and then we'll pull our breakaway switch. You can see it did lock up the brakes pretty hard on our tires, but that is because we have it lifted up in the air and there's no weight on the tires themselves. But that just gives you a little bit of an example of what it's going to do. It's instantaneous and it's going to get your trailer to a safe place. The box is going to have a durable plastic construction to be able to hold up to many years out in the weather. Now one thing that I really like about this breakaway kit is that it's going to have three mounting holes on either side of the box.
Normally on breakaway kits you're only going to see two mounting holes, in the case that we have it here, you'd see we would only be able to get that bottom bolt in there. We we're able to get two in here, but now that we've gone over some of those features, let's go ahead and show you how easy it is to get in place. Now the first thing when installing this kit on your trailer is you want to make sure that you have a mounting spot that's appropriate for your box. Your box can be mounted, like we said earlier, in any of these three holes. We decided to use bolts instead of self tapping screws. The other thing is you're going to have to find a convenient spot to mount your breakaway switch.
You just want to make sure wherever you mount it that it's going to be pulling in a straight line from the vehicle towing the trailer. Now in order to get your kit hooked up together, you're going to just need to follow the wiring diagram on the top of your box. Your blue wire from your battery box is going to run to your switch. There'll be a blue wire coming off of your switch. Just connect those together. And the black wire from your switch is going to go to the black wire in your box on your trailer, and then you'll take the white wire from your battery box and connect it to the ground and the red wire from your battery box and connected to your positive terminal, which should be your red wire in your junction box on your trailer. So here, you can see in our junction box underneath our trailer, we're going to have our blue wire coming from our battery box on our breakaway switch and our blue wire coming from our breakaway switch to get that signal and we have our two white wires grounded here on our trailer and our brake line coming from our truck signal and our positive. The three wires coming from our breakaway battery box are going to be red, white, and blue. Our white wire is going to hook to our ground. Our red wire is going to hook to the positive signal that we're getting from the existing battery on our trailer and then our blue wire is going to connect to the blue wire coming from our breakaway switch. The black wire coming from our breakaway switch is going to connect to the brake signal from our tow vehicle. And then again our breakaway attached to our trailer. We did have an existing bolt here from an old breakaway switch, so we just reused that and put new hardware on it. You can use a self tapping screw just to tap into your frame. You just want to make sure that the switch is safely secured so that if this we're to ever get pulled, it's not going to pull the whole switch off.Now you want to make sure when hooking the breakaway cable up to your vehicle that you're actually looking it to to vehicle. A good spot is where you put your tow hooks on your bumper but you want to make sure that it has its own hook so that if your chains we're to fail, it doesn't come off with the chains and stay with the trailer.Well guys, with all that being said, that's going to do it for our look at the Bright Way breakaway Kit.

Sorry about the delay, the truck was stuck in the fire evacuation zone. Everything is OK now. The breakaway switch worked fine. Even installed it in the same mounting hole as the broken one. The battery box also works fine, although the trailer didn't have the 12v wire connected. After fixing that it shows when the trailer is connected and tests the battery well. The only misleading indication is the charging light is lit, even if the truck battery has a lower voltage than the trailer battery. Not a problem. 876471

Lightning fast processing and delivery!! Next day, even with the free shipping because of the size of the order! It will take me a few days to get this installed, but the kit looks complete and well thought out. 825306
Initially the product was going to take a while to arrive and I immediately got an email from etrailer to that effect and to see if there was an alternative I would prefer that was in stock. I went with the original order and decided to wait. The wait turned out to be much shorter than I expected and it arrived within a couple of weeks. Great customer service and follow up. 750196
