Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes.

Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Over-the-Hub Rotor

Kodiak's slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub. It is most often wheel bolt piloted for a loose fit and then held in place by the wheel itself. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.

Calipers

Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 3-3/8",much larger than other pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

Mounting Brackets

Designed for axles with a 7-bolt brake flange configuration, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Note: These kits will not fit Dexter axles that came from the factory with Dexter disc brakes. They will only fit axles that come with drums or idler hubs.

  • Will Kodiak Disc Brake Kit for 10K Axles # K2HR958QD11 Fit a Lippert 10K Axle
Your Lippert 10K axles require an inner bearing that is larger than what is included with the Kodiak disc brakes # K2HR958QD11. What you could do instead is use idler hub # 8-288-3UC1, if you do not already have idler hubs, and disc brake kit # K2R1058D11DAC.

  • Availability Of Replacement Pads And Rotors For Kodiak Disc Brake Kit K2R1058D11DAC
We do have replacement parts for the Kodiak Disc Brakes - 11" Rotor - 8 on 6-1/2 - Dacromet - Leaf Spring - 10K Dexter and Lippert # K2R1058D11DAC, but the Kodiak Ceramic Brake Pads - Stainless Steel Back - 7,000 lbs to 8,000 lbs # K250CP-SS will not fit as it is designed for the 250 series caliper. For your calipers the only brake pads available are the # K338CP. The correct replacement rotors are the # KR11D. There is not a stainless steel option available for your kit. I included...

  • Disc Brake Kit that Fits Trailer with 10k Dexter Axles Made in 2008
The Kodiak kit part # K2R1058D11DAC does fit your Dexter 10k axle made in 2008 as this fits Dexter or Lippert 10k axles made prior to 2009. This attaches to the hubs you have already. When it's time to pick out an electric over hydraulic actuator I would highly recommend the Hydrastar kit part # HS381-9067 as we have found it to be the most reliable kit out there that also reacts very quickly as well.

  • How To Find Correct Replacement Disc Brake Calipers for Trailer with 10K Axles
I do have an option for you but I was not able to cross-reference any of these part numbers online. Therefore, the only option we can offer is a complete kit. In order to find the correct kit you'll need to either know the axle manufacturer which you might be able to get from the trailer manufacturer if not the tag or you can measure the spindle. The two most common 10K axles are from Lippert and Dexter, they use a #99 spindle and in which case you can use the Kodiak Disc Brakes part #...

In order to do this you are going to need disc brake assemblies, trailer hubs, brake lines, and an electric over hydraulic actuator. For the disc brake assemblies you will want to use the Kodiak Disc Brakes part # K2R1058D11DAC. You will need one kit per axle. For the trailer hubs you will want to use the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly...

  • Disc Brake Kit For 10K Dexter Axle
Disc brakes are only going to be available in a hydraulic application like the Brakes # KD94FR you found. The ones you found are for AL-KO axles and we do have the Kit # K2R1058D11DAC for a 10K Dexter axle. You can use an Electric over Hydraulic Actuator # HBA16 to control the brakes with an electric brake controller.
