Kodiak Disc Brake Hub-and-Rotor

Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Corrosion Resistance for Marine Use

This disc brake assembly resists corrosion, making it ideal for use on your boat trailer. All KodaGuard calipers undergo a test in which they are sprayed with a 5-percent salt solution to determine corrosion resistance over time. These products are able to withstand 1,992 hours of constant exposure to the saltwater mist. This 1,992-hour salt spray rating indicates that this product is not only durable enough to last in freshwater environments, but it can also be used on trailers that come into contact with saltwater.

In addition, the hub-and-rotor assemblies and caliper mounting brackets have a Dacromet plating, which offers a 300- to 400-hour salt spray rating. The pistons, the brake pad backings, and the caliper mounting bolts are made of rustproof stainless steel. These corrosion-resistant components make this Kodiak assembly a natural choice when installing disc brakes on your boat trailer.

Integral Hub-and-Rotor Assemblies for Easy Installation

Retrofitting disc brakes or replacing drum brakes on your trailer is easy with this hub-and-rotor assembly. The hub and rotor are cast and machined as a single unit, with wheel studs pressed into the rotor. This 1-piece style of hub and rotor minimizes contamination - sometimes called runout - between rotor and hub surfaces to prevent warping. The result is excellent performance and long life. And because the hub and rotor are balanced together, you get a smoother ride.

The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

Kodiak calipers are constructed of cast iron to prevent flexing. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

Mounting Brackets

Designed for axles with 5-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty ductile iron that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Everything came as advertised, but a couple items shifted and damaged a couple boxes. The items inside those boxes were not damaged however. Maybe needed more padding inside the box. The only reason it gets a 4 star. 858874

Bought new axel parts and brakes bigger wheels for my boat trailer. My existing axel was 20 years old and never was adequate for the weight it hauled causing wheel bearings to wear out and the chance of loosing a wheel. This was the most economical way to repair as a new trailer was so expensive. All the parts I needed were available and went together beautifully. Very happy with etrailer, this is not the first time I have ordered from them great option for any parts you need. 700488

  • What Trailer Setups will the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526DKG Fit
In order to determine if the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526DKG would be the correct kit for your trailer we will need to know a few things about your trailer. First off, your trailer will need to be a 5,200-6,000 lb axle with number 42 spindles, and your wheels will need to have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. Your axle capacity will be listed on the plate or sticker near the coupler of your trailer on the frame. To determine what spindles you have you will need to remove your current...

I have attached a link to our product page for the disc brake kits we offer for 5,200 lb axles. One of the kits I recommend is the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit, part # K2HR526DKG. This kit includes 2 KodaGuard-plated calipers, 2 Dacromet-plated hub-rotor assemblies and brackets, 4 stainless steel caliper mounting bolts, and inner and outer races. This kit is recommended for 5,200 or 6,000 lb axles. This kit is designed for 15 inch and larger wheels. The bolt pattern for the hubs is 6 on...

  • Is Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526DKG Compatible with Outer Bearing # LM67048
The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2HR526DKG that you referenced is intended for use with spindles that use inner bearing # 25580 and outer bearing # 15123. The other outer bearing you referenced, part # LM67048, has the same inner diameter as bearing # 15123 (1.250-inches) but has a different outer diameter so it is not compatible with this kit. You want to select a hub/rotor brake kit that uses the same inner and outer bearing set as your existing hubs to ensure compatibility. The linked...

  • Can I Use K2HR35D On A 6,000 Lb Trailer Axle
I have an option for you but the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit part # K2HR35D is designed for 3,500 lb axles so it is not a fit for a 6,000 lb axle. They are 10" brakes and a 6,000 lb trailer axle would require a 12" assembly like part # K2HR526DKG which have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. The disc brake set includes dacromet plated hub and rotor assemblies with stainless steel bolts so they are great for boat applications. The bearing kit that fits this hub is part # DBRKHW6SS. • Titan Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Parts Recommendation for 5,200 lb Axle
I have a solution for you, but all of the kits we offer are all designed for 3,500 lb axles. For the actuator you would want the Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102 that comes with the breakaway kit. For a tandem axle brake line kit you would then want the # DM5425, and then for a disk brake kit for 5,200 lb axles you would want the part # K2HR526DKG. The hubs have a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern and would require the bearings part # 25580 and...

  • Axle and Hub Recommendation for Off Road Camper Trailer
When it comes to building an off road camper trailer, the best configuration that I can come up with is using the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension, # ASR35HDS02, with the Kodiak Disc Brake Kit, # K2HR526DKG. The heavy-duty steel construction and black powder coat finish of the axle-less system resists wear and corrosion and the rust-resistant, marine-grade, disc brake kit would be perfect for your set-up since you mention the fact of them going under water/mud on a regular basis.

  • Disc Brake Kit for a Grand Design Travel Trailer with 5,000 Pound Lippert Axles
You likely have 5,200 pound de-rated axles. You can check the bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings in one of the hubs on the trailer now to help determine what will fit. Most likely they use inner bearing 25580 and outer bearing 15123. For a disc brake kit that uses these bearings I recommend # K2HR526DKG. This is a kit for one axle so if you need brakes on both axles you would need 2 kits. For bearings you would need 4 of inner bearing # 25580, 4 of outer bearing...

I don't know what capacity axle you have, but the Kodiak kit part # K2HR526DKG is for 5,200 to 6,000 lb axles and has the 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern.
