Disc Brakes

More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Disc brakes deliver consistent braking - even at highway speeds - unlike drum brakes, which often show a substantial drop in braking torque at higher speeds. In addition, disc brakes offer a substantially shorter stopping distance than drum brakes. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, rather than the many found in drum brakes. This means that there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and fewer parts to have to repair or replace, thus reducing maintenance costs.

Integral Hub-and-Rotor Assemblies

The integral hub-and-rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Kodiak's rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage. Furthermore, machined disc brakes minimize the chance of contamination between the hub and rotor, resulting in excellent performance and long life.


Kodiak calipers are constructed of stainless steel to prevent flexing and rust. Less flex means more braking torque, resulting in smooth, even braking every time. The corrosion-resistant stainless steel piston is 30 percent larger than standard pistons, ensuring shorter stopping distance and increased torque. In addition, the unique low-drag design of Kodiak's calipers allows the piston to retract farther than in most standard models, giving you a cooler-running brake.

Mounting Brackets

Designed for axles with 4-bolt brake flange configurations, the included mounting brackets are made of heavy-duty, corrosion-resistant dacromet that is embossed to provide additional threading for guide bolts. The added thread strength ensures a tighter, more secure connection between the caliper and bracket. Another unique feature of Kodiak's brackets is the side-support angle, which guarantees that the load is carried by the bracket, rather than the bolts.

Very pleased with the service and quality of product. Placed order on Monday and received on Friday enabling me to complete the installation over the weekend. All components were shipped and installation was very smooth. Time will tell how the Dacromet resists corrosion. I also ordered the rubber break line kit, replacing everything from the master cylinder back (tandem axles). Would have preferred to keep the oil bath hubs vs going back to grease and bearing buddies. This is my 4th trailer and the oil bath hubs were superior. No leaks/seal failure in 5 years of use.

The Kodiak brake kit was delivered intact. When installing it , i found that you can not install this brake set on a Road King aluminum I bean trailer. the calipers will hit the frame rails. no matter where i put the caliper, unless all the way on the bottom, which isnt good . So i will have to eat this purchase. Installed the tiedown stuff that wont last 2 years in salt water. I wish there was some information about the Kodiak system needing more clearence between the caliper and the frame.I rated it a good for its not the problem of the brake manufacturer, but the trailer manufacturer for spacing the wheels so close to the frame.

I just spoke to my contact at Kodiak about the clearance issue you have and he informed me that as long as your bleed the brakes with the bleeder valve pointed up you could then install the calipers in the 6:00 position and they would work just fine.

I did sellinstall this brake set on a loadrite trailer and there was plenty of clearence, As stasted before , the road king trailer that i was trying to install this set of brakes on didnt have the clearence needed. The caliper would contact the frame as the suspetion would travel. As with all factory rep replies it allways seems to be the installers fault that it will not work. I bet that rep dosent have 40 years of repair service under his belt. After that coment on the 6 oclock position, yeah it would work but who wants the have the caliper on the bottom? Typical for a factory rep. Add and inch to the axel on each side and things would clear just fine.

I am having issue's with this product. When I mounting the first one I could not get the caliper mounted and later found out the mounting plate had a bolt hole that was not threaded from the factory. I talked to Caleb and in less than 2 days I had a replacement in my hand. Caleb spent a great deal of time making sure I got it and fast. Caleb helped me a lot with my install. The other issue I am currently dealing with is the outside brake pad is rubbing the face of the rotor on both of the left side axles. I am going to call Kodiak today for suggestions. I will be buying all my stuff from Etrailer because IF you do have a issue one phone call to them and they will take care of it. THANK YOU Caleb

This product worked great. I'm so glad there is a kit that has all this together. The hoses are much higher quality than what I took off the trailer. I've never changed brakes before and this was way easier than I thought it would be (the hardest part was getting the old rusted calipers off the trailer). I did end up needing to order new grease seals. I can't imagine why I would reuse old grease seals on new hubs, so I'd recommend that you order these with the package (and recommend that eTailer include them, or at least suggest that you should order them).
