Disc Brakes are Better Than Drum Brakes
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking, even at highway speeds. Disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.
Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement
Slip-on, cast iron rotors make it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub and use your existing wheel bolts to hold it in place. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.
The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a look together at this Hydrastar Disc Brake Kit with Actuator for your tandem axle trailers. Now, more and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes because unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking even at highway speeds. Disc brakes are going to also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance, and disc brake calipers only have one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to repair or replace. Now, this kit is designed for your 3,500 pound tandem axle trailer, and this has a 5 on 4 1/2 half inch rather bolt pattern, and the rotor diameter is 10 inches. So, this kit is going to include everything that you see here on my table.
You're going to get these four Dacromet-coated disc brake end kits for two axles and these cast iron over-the-hub rotors are gonna be easy to install. They're gonna fit over your standard idler hubs that are held in place by your existing 1/2 inch wheel studs and lug nuts, so you're not gonna have to worry about replacing your entire hub and rotor assembly if only the hub or rotor becomes damaged. And these also are going to include the inner and outer bearings along with the grease seals that you see here. Now, on your screen I am including the bearing and grease seal information, and if you need to refer back to this information, we do have it listed on this product page as well. Now, these calipers are stainless steel, and let me take this one here and I just want to turn this around here.
So, the calipers are stainless steel and then the brake pads, lift this up here, you can see it right there. And it does include the installation bolts and I'm using the bolts obviously to hold that caliper into place on the caliper mounting bracket. So, these are designed for your four bolt, hopefully you can see that, your four-bolt brake brake flange, so that's going to attach to your four-bolt brake flange. And so these hub and rotors and calipers, the caliper mounting brackets rather that we have right here all have that Dacromet coating which is corrosion-resistant, and as I've been saying, these calipers are stainless steel. So, this kit is going to be ideal for trailers that you're going to be using around water like your boat trailers, and this is also going to include the Hydrastar Electric Over Hydraulic Brake Actuator that will activate your trailer brakes when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, triggering the pump and motor on the actuator.
And this is going to install on your trailer frame and connect to your trailer's wiring, and this is going to help create that smooth, even braking, with fast response time, and it does work with most in-cab brake controllers. Of course, the brake controller is sold separately from this kit. You're going to receive the solid brake lines and the flexible lines, and all the fittings that you are going to need for a tandem axle trailer. And we do list each item in detail on this product page if you need the details of the parts that's included with this kit. So, this kit is going to include everything that you need to switch your tandem trailer over to disc brakes for improved performance and greater stopping power.
Well that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy, thank you for joining me.
