Disc Brakes are Better Than Drum Brakes
More and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes, and with good reason. Unlike drum brakes, disc brakes deliver consistent braking, even at highway speeds. Disc brakes also offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. Disc brake calipers have only one moving part, so there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged, and fewer parts to have to repair or replace.
Over-the-Hub Rotors for Easy Replacement
Slip-on, cast iron rotor makes it easy to convert an idler axle to a disc brake axle. Simply place the rotor over your hub and use your existing wheel bolts to hold it in place. With a separate rotor and hub, you can easily repair or replace one element of your brake system without having to junk the whole thing.
The rotor is made from cast iron, matching SAE specifications. Cast iron is ideal for high-temperature operations and offers a favorable friction coefficient to ensure adequate stopping power. Rotors are vented to effectively dissipate heat, dramatically reducing the incidence of heat-related damage.

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Hydrastar slip-on rotor disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator. And this kit is for a single 6,000 pound trailer axle with the 6 on 5.5 inch bolt pattern. Now, this all-inclusive kit will have everything you need to switch the trailer over to disc brakes for improved performance and greater stopping power. Right here, we have over-the-hub DACROMET-coated rotors for easy installation.
Basically, these will fit over your existing standard idler hubs, and they're held in place by your existing wheel lug nuts. So there's no need to replace your entire hub and rotor assembly if only the hub or the rotor becomes damaged. Now, this is for two disc brake end kits for one axle. We mentioned the slip-on DACROMET-coated cast iron rotors, the inner and outer bearings, the grease seals. Right here, we have the stainless steel calipers with brake pads included and the installation bolts and the mounting brackets.
We've already mounted the calipers to the caliper-mounting brackets. You can see those are DACROMET-coated mounting brackets and they're designed to attach to a five bolt brake flange. Now, the DACROMET coating we mentioned on the rotors and the caliper-mounting brackets are corrosion-resistant. The caliper themselves are stainless steel, which are rustproof. Now ,this electric over hydraulic actuator, I want to zoom in.
This is through a hard wire into your tow vehicle and basically it signals your in-cab brake controller when the brakes are applied and it triggers the pump and the motor on the inside of the actuator. And this will create a nice, smooth, even braking with a fast response time. It is designed to work with most in-cab brake controllers. It also comes with the brake line kits. You can see here, the solid brake lines.
Over here, we have the flexible lines and all the fittings you need for installation. Now, we list on the product page of this product all of the part numbers that I laid out here on the table that are all included. Now, more and more people are switching their trailers over to disc brakes and with good reason 'cause unlike drum brakes, the disc brakes here will deliver consistent braking even at highway speeds. Also, disc brakes will offer a substantially shorter stopping distance. And disc brake calipers right here, they have only one moving part. So there are fewer parts to maintain, fewer parts to get damaged and even fewer parts to have to repair or replace. Now a few specs of this. This is for a single axle trailer on a 6,000 pound axle. We mentioned the bolt pattern. You can see the holes here is 6 on 5.5 inches, and the diameter of the rotor is 12 inches. But that should do it for a look at the Hydrastar slip-on rotor disc brake kit with the electric over hydraulic brake actuator for single 6,000 pound trailer axles.
