Trailer was homemade by high school welding class. Fortunately an axle allowing installation of brakes was used. Easy installation. When it comes time for new brakes, I will order the kit instead of individual shoes, etc.

by:

I ordered and received the brake assemblies in good time. These are genuine Dexter brakes made in the USA. Needed additional items, hub/drums, but unfortunately etrailer could not supply. I was able to source them from a local HD truck and trailer supplier and will complete the brakes when they arrive.

by:

Product arrived on time in good shape as advertised. Looks great and fits perfect. There were questions on my trailer (2013 Jayco Swift) about capacity of axle and size of drums that I had to answer. I also had to measure my wheel seals. I was apprehensive while waiting for delivery but relieved when I received my components. Many thanks to the etrailer team for their attention to detail.

by:

At first, I was disappointed because the left and right brake assemblies were not a matched pair, one was for a larger axle. etrailer helped and got the correct brake sent quickly with all shipping info to get the incorrect assembly sent back. I would definitely use etrailer again.

Questions answered plainly and concisely, ordering assistance was quick and knowledgeable, and the ordering process & delivery was fast (ordered on Thursday and delivered on Saturday. The order before this one was the same.

by:

All I can say at this time is how impressed I am with how easy it was to get a good product the Dexter Electric trailer brake kit from etrailor.com and how fast they where in getting my purchase to my house. They informed of when they shipped my product, and how to follow my purchase on line. I have yet to have pictures of my all new brake kits installed but I can say I am looking forward to getting my trailer back on the road.

by:

The only place that had them and our customer was in a bind. And y’all made it where he could get back on the road in a few short days! Thanks etrailer!

by:

first order I placed was for the wrong axle size but once that was rectified, the new break assemblies fit onto my 2014 Jay Flight Swift SLX like a glove. I received them within a few days of my scheduled camping trip and I had both on and existing hubs cleaned up within a day or two. Thanks etrailer.com for getting my parts to me fast and for the refund on the previous wrong order. You guys rock!

by:

two mounting bolts loose, need better packing, put the nuts on them so they wont come loose.

by:

The process for ordering was made very easy with the help of Bryan ( I believe) was his name. I was told the items would arrive today and like clock work they arrived. I was free to start the replacement and with in 2 hours both brake assemblies were on the travel trailer. Because I have endless tools, I had everything including heat shrink to install over sliced wire to break magnets. I only needed to look up the process for re-adjusting the new drakes. The whole process from calling etrailer to receiving and installing the brakes was so great.

by:

I got these last year and just now installed them. Great price, easy to install and adjust. Tested them out today and work great. Thanks again etrailer.com

All is working just fine. Made one adjustment and good to go.

by:

I bought these to add brakes to an enclosed trailer that had none.. Everything fit perfectly. Hardest part of the retrofit was finding a decent chassis ground. Magnets are quite noisy as they wear in. Only have about 150 miles on them so far so I anticipate them getting quieter with more miles.

by:

you guys are great..

by:

The product worked as expected. Shipping on the other hand was a night mare but etrailer.com staff worked hard to resolve the problem

by:

I just got it today. I will install them this week

by:

etrailer.com staff were very helpful. My orders were shipped almost immediately and were delivered across country in a week. I am very happy with their customer service.

by:

Arrived within 2 days. Well packaged. Great service. Could not find these parts anywhere else.

  • Replacement Brakes on a 3,000 lb. Axle
While it may be possible that a 3,500 lb. brake assembly will fit your 3,000 lb. axle, it is recommended that you stay with the 3,000 lb. size intended for your axle and use the part number # K23-472-473-00 for a replacement. If you are dead set on using a 3,500 lb. brake assembly you would need to measure your bearings and brake flange to determine if there is a hub that fits.

  • Can Trailer Brakes be Used if they are Rated Higher than the Axle
Assuming the brakes used will fit the trailer the only issue you might run into when using brakes rated higher than the axle capacity is they may be too aggressive. However this can be overcome by adjusting the brakes themselves and/or turning down the power output on a brake controller (for electric brakes).

  • What Size Braking Assembly Does a 3,000 Lb Trailer Axle Use
The overall width of the drum would be around a 1/2" wider than the shoes on the backing plate but this will not be relevant when selecting replacements as the parts will be based on the dimensions of the backing plate which in your case is 10" x 1-1/2". Most 3,000 lb trailer axles use a 10" x 1-1/2" braking assembly with a 4 bolt brake mounting flange like part # K23-472-473-00. In order to confirm this for you I would need you to provide me with the part number off of your trailer axle...

  • Replacements for Hubs 008-418-02 That Use 10 x 1-1/2 Brake Assemblies
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-472-473-00 are 10 x 1-1/2 brake assemblies that fit your 008-418-02 hubs, but those particular hubs are not available as replacements. If you sent me both the inner and outer bearing numbers from your current hubs as well as your bolt pattern, I may be able to find you a hub and drum along with a brake assembly that will work. I've added a link to a help article on how to measure the bolt pattern of your wheel as well as a pair of help articles...

  • Ways to Determine Trailer Axle Capacity
If your trailer is rated at 5,200 lbs most likely you have axles that are rated less than that individually. Typically on the VIN plate of the trailer the axle capacities will be listed. Common axle capacities are 5,200 lb, 3,500 lb, and 2,200 lb so most likely you probably have 3,500. But you can also measure the diameter of them too to determine this. - 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter - 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter - 5,200-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch...

  • Can Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit for 3,500 lb Axles be Used for a 3,000 lb Axle
The Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469 for 3,500 lb axles has 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide dimensions while the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-472-473-00 for 3,000 lb axles has 10" diameter x 1-1/2" wide dimensions. Since the dimensions are different you will need to stick with the ones rated for a 3,000 lb axle # K23-472-473-00.

  • Would Trailer Brakes from 3,500 lb Axle Fit 3,000 lb Trailer Axle
The Dexter 3,000 lb trailer axles use a different size of brake assemblies so what you'd need is the Dexter 3k axle brake assemblies part # K23-472-473-00. 3,500 lb trailer axles use a slightly different size assembly so they would not fit. Then for hub/drums you'd want the part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K and you'd be set.

  • What is Difference Between 3,000 and 3,500 lb Trailer Brake Assembly
The big difference between 3,000 lb axle trailer brake assemblies and 3,500 lb trailer axle brake assemblies is the width of the brake pad. The 3,500 lb kits like the # 23-468-469 are 2-1/4 inches wide and the # K23-472-473-00 which fits the 3,000 lb axle kits has a width of 1-1/2 inches. This is why they are not interchangeable.

  • Can Dexter 3000 lb Axle Use 3500 lb Brake Assemblies
A Dexter 3K axle would use 10 x 1-1/2 inch brake assemblies versus the 10 x 2-1/4 inch assemblies typically found on a 3.5K axle, so you'll want to use the # K23-472-473-00 brake assemblies you'd looked at. The # 23-468-469 brake shoes are too wide, and wouldn't allow your existing brake hub/drums to fully seat so they wouldn't work for you.

If you need new brake assemblies for your 3,000 lb axle your best option is to stick with the size you have and use the part number # K23-472-473-00 for a replacement. The temptation is to use more powerful brake assemblies which would give impression that they'd have more braking power but it does not work like that. Instead when you do this it gets much harder to get proper brake application as basically it'll seem like they want to either lock up or not work at all.
