These brake kits are not normally stocked in most places but etrailer had them and at a good price. These kits made replacing my brakes a lot easier and they are still working great after a couple of long trips and many short ones.

Ask the Experts about this Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes

  • Replacement Brakes and Hub/Drum Assembly for 2011 Lippert 4,400 lb Axle
Thank you for the picture of the axle tag! I reached out to Lippert and I was able to confirm the that the Dexter 10" Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-462-463-00 is a fit for your 4,400 lb axle. These are the standard manual adjusting brakes but we also have the Nev-R-Adjust (self-adjusting) brakes as well as part # K23-478-479 if you'd like to go that route. The hub/drum assembly isn't included with this kit but it is available as part # 8-407-5UC3-EZ. This has a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt...

  • How To Confirm Fit of Dexter 4,400 lb Electric Trailer Brake Kit K23-462-463-00
The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # K23-462-463-00 is designed for 4,400 lb axles with a four bolt mounting flange. If this is what you have then it will work great. The axle capacity can be found on the axle tag sticker in the center of the beam. Unfortunately, we cannot look up parts for any one specific trailer. The kits is for two assemblies.

  • Replacement Trailer Brakes with Parking Brake
I have a set of Dexter electric brakes that will fit your trailer with parking brakes # K23-086-087-00, however they are rated for 3,500 lbs. This is a right and left side kit. Deciding on this kit will be determined how much you tow on your trailer. For the front axle you can use # 23-468-469 which is also a pair for left and right assemblies.

  • How to Determine if 4,400 lb Electric Brakes Fit Trailer
We don't have a way of knowing the brakes that fit your 2005 Fleetwood Coleman Niagara trailer, but can tell you how to find out if the 4,400 lb Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit # K23-462-463-00 will fit. The only way to do this is to know your mounting bolt pattern and the diameter and depth of your trailer's drum. You need to have a 4-bolt mounting flange like part # 4-35, and the inside depth of your drum needs to measure 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide. If you have those specs you...

  • Replacement Electric Brakes and Grease Seal for Lippert 4,400 Pound Axle
For your Lippert 4,400 pound axle I definitely recommend going with 4,400 pound electric brake assemblies. Lower rated assemblies will have a weaker magnet that won't provide sufficient stopping for a heavier trailer like yours. For this the Dexter Electric Brake Kit # K23-462-463-00 or the Nev-R-Adjust # K23-478-479 for easier maintenance will work perfectly. Both the Left and Right Hand assemblies are included with these kits. I reached out to Lippert and was able to track down the...

  • Does Going with Higher Rated Brake Assembly Give you Additional Braking Strength
The magnets between differing trailer brake assembly capacities aren't more powerful than each other so much as they are different in sensitivity. You don't gain any power going with a higher rated assembly than you need. You actually just end up with a harder to adjust braking setup. It will seem like either the brakes are applying to hard or too soft without any middle ground. That's why your best option is to go with the exact capacity you need.

Based on my research, it looks like your 2006 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite camper has a tandem axle setup and the axles are 4,000 lb AL-KO torsion axles. There should be a label on the axle listing the manufacturer and the weight rating of the axle so that you can confirm these are the axles on your trailer. • Replacement Electric Brakes for 4,200 lb Axle on Coachmen Apex Nano Trailer
Though I would not be able to answer for parts that are on your trailer now, it is a good idea for your brakes to match your axle's weight capacity. As for a replacement, I could not find a reference to the brakes you have now, and the only replacements that fit a 10" x 2-1/4" drum have a 4-bolt mounting flange or a very specific 4-bolt flange with 2.83" x 2.83" spacing. We have electric drum brakes rated for 4400-lb axles (and hydraulic drum brakes rated for 3750- and 5200-lb axles) but none rated for exactly 4000-lbs. For electric drum brakes in the 10 x 2-1/4-inch size for a 5th wheel the 4400-lb-rated brakes will be fine. The trailer's GVWR is 5454-lbs, which makes perfect sense based on the 2800-lb rating for each axle that you mentioned. The specs also note that electric drum brakes are installed only on the rear axle. In a case like this those brakes are likely to be rated for more than the single axle 2800-lb rating.
