How to Use Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty

Adjusting the braking settings on the Tow-Pro Liberty is super simple. To get more power output - the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes - rotate the knob clockwise toward 10. To decrease the power output, rotate it counterclockwise toward 0.

Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Braking Output Red Light

When you apply the tow vehicle's brakes, the knob will change from blue to red to signal that the trailer brakes are being activated. The higher the braking power output, the deeper the red that you will see.

Manual Override

To engage manual override, simply press the control knob. This will activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights independent of your tow vehicle, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in an emergency.

How to Calibrate Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty

When you are calibrating the brake controller for the first time, the LED lights will signal your progress.

Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Dash Mounted Remote Knob

You'll start by braking 20 times or so to let the unit learn its orientation and the direction of travel. You don't need to have a trailer connected for it to calibrate; the only difference is that the knob won't illuminate at all. If your trailer is connected, the LED light will flash green/blue as it calibrates. When the display turns solid blue, initial calibration is complete.

Once done, the unit will remain calibrated. If recalibration is required, it will happen automatically and without LED indication.

How to Install Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty

The Liberty has almost no mounting restrictions. It comes in 2 pieces: the main unit and the control knob. The main unit mounts out of sight and out of the way. You don't have to worry about dinging your knee on a bulky brake controller or interfering with your vehicle's airbags.

The control knob can be installed in any convenient spot that's easy for you to see and access. This can be a blank switch panel, an open spot on your center console, or wherever there's space on your dashboard. A universal mounting panel is included to ensure a clean, from-the-factory look. Custom-fit panels are available for certain vehicles as well. Before you do any drilling, be sure there's enough clearance behind the dash for the entire knob to install!

where to install REDARC Tow Pro Liberty on 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Once you've decided where you want to put the control knob, you'll need to find a good place to install the main unit. Your only restriction is the 3' cable connecting the main unit and the control knob. Securely mount the box using screws, double-sided tape, or zip-ties (not included). A mounting kit (RE67FR - sold separately) is also available for the Tow-Pro Liberty. Do not attach the module to wiring or cables that can shift as you drive!

REDARC Tow Pro Liberty Harness

The included wiring harness hardwires into your vehicle's wiring and then plugs directly into the main unit. For assistance in properly wiring the Tow-Pro Liberty, please refer to the diagrams below:

Redarc Tow Pro Liberty Wiring Diagram

What is Proportional Braking?

What is proportional Braking

Proportional braking means that your trailer brakes mimic your tow vehicle's brakes. If you slam on the brakes in your vehicle, your trailer brakes will activate with the same intensity; if you brake lightly, your trailer brakes lightly too. The trailer's braking is in proportion to your vehicle's braking. This saves wear and tear on the tires and the brakes on both your vehicle and trailer.

The Tow-Pro Liberty uses an internal 3-axis accelerometer to sense how your vehicle is braking so it can send the right amount of braking power to your trailer. It measures the inertia of your tow vehicle and activates the trailer's brakes to slow at the same rate. The result is uniform braking across your towing setup. No push-pull action - just smooth, proportional braking every time.

  • What Wiring do I Need to get My 2022 Toyota Highlander Ready for Redarc Tow-Pro Brake Controller?
Hello Dan, We can most definitely get you set up to use your Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty brake controller in your 2022 Toyota Highlander. Since you were looking at the # ETBC7, I’m assuming your Highlander does not have the factory tow package. To equip your vehicle for a brake controller, you’ll first need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # TK99FR. This is fairly simple to install, with the most challenging part being the removal of some paneling to access...

  • 7-Way and Brake Controller Recommendation for 2008 Volvo XC90 with 4-Way
Hey John, so the # ETBC7 that you referenced is the correct kit to convert your 4-way to a 7-way and wire in a brake controller so you are on the right track. So then for a brake controller I really like the Redarc Tow Pro Liberty part # RED52VR which only puts a small knob on the dash of your vehicle and uses an internal sensor to determine how hard to apply the trailer brakes.

Hi John; we actually have both a hitch and wiring available for your 2025 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XLE Premium. I recommend the following: -etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e23ZR OR -Oris Hitches Detachable Hitch # TS66VR -Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56434 The etrailer hitch is my go to for the RAV4. Kia Tellurides are in our install shop all the time for hitch and wiring installs since Kia typically will not install them at the factory. Manufacturers use "tow package" as a buzz word to charge you more typically so you'll want to get explicit descriptions of what is included with the vehicle. If it doesn't come with a trailer hitch then you can install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13420. For wiring you would first need to install a 4-pole wire harness like the Curt Powered Tail...

Hey Larry, Yep, The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR will fit your 2004 Chevy Suburban. You can probably reuse your existing harness going to your current controller, but I'll need to know the brand of your current controller. You'll need one of the following adapters based on your current controller brand: Curt controller currently # 331-TPH-019 Tekonsha controller currently # 331-TPH-017 Hopkins controller currently # 331-TPH-018 With any of these harnesses, you'll just unplug...

Hey Jacques, thanks for reaching out! The Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED52VR will work just fine on your 2023 Ford Ranger, and it will install by splicing into a bundle of wires under your driver side dash. We have a video of this same process of the Prodigy P3 # 90195 on a 2021 Ranger that I'm linking for you to reference, but we don't have anything of the Liberty on a Ranger at this point in time. I'm not sure why we don't have this listed out to fit "with the tow package", but I'll send...

This Controller # RED72CR does come with the connector for this application. The small connector is taped into the harness behind the left side kick panel. If you do not have the factory trailer wiring you will want our Wiring Kit # ETBC7, a Brake Controller # RED52VR and a 4-Way # HM11141835.

Hey Gary, Brake controllers are pretty universal so even though it's not listed as a fit you would still be able to get the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR installed in your Ford. To make the installation super easy you'll want to pick up the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # 3034-P. This will plug into your vehicle's wiring so that you don't have to cut and splice or run wire back to the 7-way. To connect this to the brake controller you can either cut off the Tekonsha connector and...

Hey Dale! Sorry to say but they stopped putting the brake controller adapter plugs in the Jeep Grand Cherokees a few years back. 2020 was the last model year they included them. The Curt Echo item # C51180 is going to be the only plug and play option. It will attach to your Jeep's 7-way and be controlled through an app on your phone. The main difference will be that the Redarc only puts a small know on your dash and the P2 is a traditional brake controller that is much bigger. To install either controller you'd need the install harness part # 3040-P. For how much cleaner of an install the Redarc provides that would be the route I would go with.
