This time-delayed brake controller is designed to mount at any angle, even upside down. The controls are all up front for easy access, including a slide-bar manual override and a thumbwheel for braking output. LED indicator shows your braking status.

The Tekonsha POD is designed to mount in any direction, and it's especially suited for mounting on near-vertical dashes. All the controls are on the front of the module, so you can still access them with the controller tucked away in a convenient place.
Braking output is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to set the braking output as high as you can without locking up the brakes. Once you've set up the brake controller the first time, you shouldn't need to adjust the settings until the trailer load changes, you switch trailers, or road conditions change. Use the thumbwheel on the side to change the braking output level. The output setting will appear as a number on the digital display, with a higher number indicating higher braking power.
The Tekonsha POD keeps the manual override within easy reach on the front of the module, great for stopping sway or controlling your trailer's momentum in emergencies. Push the slide-bar lever to activate the trailer's brakes and brake lights without you having to apply the brakes on your tow vehicle, perfect for limiting trailer movement while you're cruising.
Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, with the controller designed with all of the controls on the front of the module so you can access them even if it's mounted upside down.
The included custom adapter plugs into the connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. Older models will have the harness located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Newer models have the harness under the dash, above the gas pedal. Once you have the wiring connected to your vehicle, just plug the other end into the POD. Because there are no wires to splice, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove the brake controller at any time and securely stow it away.

The Tekonsha POD comes equipped with time-delayed braking. Every time you apply the brakes in your vehicle, a signal is sent - via the brake switch - to the POD. The controller then sends power out to your trailer brakes to activate them with an intensity set by you, at a rate determined by you. The amount of braking power (output) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. Today on our 2016 Nissan Frontier, we will be taking a look at the Tekonsha Power Track Electronic Brake Controller, for 1 to 2 axles. This is a time delayed brake controller, its part number, 39523. To help us out with our installation today, we will be using the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter, part number 3050-P. Now that we have it in place, we can go ahead and test it out. The knob here is going to operate our gain. This light is adjustable, so depending on the level of gain, you're going to get a more or a less intense red out of that LED, all the way up to the end where we're going to get a solid red. As you can see, stepping on our brake pedal as well, it sends a signal back to our trailer.
Back here at the rear of our Frontier, we don't actually have a trailer hooked up. Instead we have a tester hooked up, the reason being is that this way you'll actually to able to visually see the output that we're getting from the brake controller, so with that hooked up, I'm going to go up and operate the brake controller and you'll be able to see the signals that we're getting. Go ahead and operate the manual override, and as you can see, I'm bumping up the gain, and as I do, we should be getting higher and higher outputs to our tester. When I step on the brake, you'll be able to see the output being passed along back there as well. To begin our install, we're going to be on our driver's side, and we're going to go up underneath the steering wheel, underneath the dashboard. That's where we'll need to locate our vehicle's factory tow package, which is going to be this wire here.
The wiring adapter is going to plug right into that, just an easy snap in place. This is what's going to allow us to connect our brake controller directly to our front gear. What we're going to do is we'll take the bracket along with our included hardware, and that's just a couple of self-tapping screws, that's going to allow us to go right into our panel here. It's not a bad idea to go ahead and drill it out before putting in your self-tapping screws, just because there's also a metal plate behind there, which is a good thing. It's going to give us extra grip, but it's also tougher just to get the self-tapper through, so I'm going to just go ahead and drill that out. We should having a much easier time running our self-tapper through.
Just repeat that same process on the other side. Now with our brackets securely in place, we can grab our brake controller, and as you can see, the pigtail coming off the back is the opposite end of the adapter that we installed. Those fit securely. You'll hear them snap into place, and as you can see, we're now getting power to our brake controller. Now we can go ahead and mount our brake controller up here in our brackets with the included hardware. We can go ahead and we're just going to get the brake controller finger tight right now with the included hardware.
Do that here on both sides. Once we've got it finger tight, we can very carefully tighten that down after setting the angle that we'd like our brake controller to remain at. There's really no specific angle. You just need to make sure that your brake controller is mounted in a horizontal position, not vertically. Once we get an angle that's going to work for our visibility purposes up in the seat, we're all set. Now I like to save this for the very end just so we're not undoing anything if something we're to have gone wrong, but the last thing that it's a good idea to do is to zip tie up the excess wires and tuck them up underneath your dashboard, so they're not hanging out and interfering with the operation of your pedals. Go ahead and clip off the excess end of that zip tie and we've got a nice bundle here that we can tuck back up underneath our dashboard. It's not a bad idea to sometimes get an extra zip tie as well, and find a secure point up here where you can attach that so it's not going to come down and bother you while you're on the road. That will complete our look at the Tekonsha Power Track Electronic Brake Controller, part number 39523 on our 2016 Nissan Frontier.

I didnt lik that the actual controller doesnt have tekonsha on it, but the wire harnss does. It works great. I use it to brake a car tow dolly from a motorhome.
