Gain and Load Adjustment

Curt Venturer NEXT

Gain is the maximum amount of power that will be applied to your trailer's brakes. How much braking output you need is determined by the weight of your trailer; a heavier trailer will need more power to bring it to a stop. You want to go as high as you can without the trailer brakes locking up.

Once you have the gain set, you can fine-tune your braking by adjusting the load control. This controls the aggressiveness of your trailer's braking, meaning how quickly the brakes reach the maximum braking level. If your vehicle takes too long to come to a stop, increase the setting. If it stops too abruptly, decrease the setting.

LED Display

The LED display on the Venturer is large and easy to read at a glance. It will show you what setting the brake controller is on as well as give you information for troubleshooting. You can adjust the screen brightness or trigger night mode so it won't glare obnoxiously on your dash.

Curt Venturer NEXT LED display

Installation

Because inertia plays no role in the functioning of this controller, you do not have to mount the unit at any particular angle. Your mounting options are limitless, so long as you can still easily access the controller and the manual override. The included bracket is designed to mount the brake controller flush to the dash so it takes up almost no space at all.

The included custom-fit adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness, which you'll find underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. Once you're plugged into the factory port, just plug the other end of the adapter into the Venturer. No hardwiring needed!

Note: If you don't already have a 7-way plug at the back of your vehicle, take a look at our exclusive 7- and 4-way brake control installation kit (ETBC7 - sold separately).

What is Time-Delayed Braking?

what is time-delayed braking

Time-delayed braking means that when you apply the brakes in your vehicle, the controller activates the trailer brakes at a pre-set intensity and rate. Both the amount of braking power (gain) and rate of application (load) can be adjusted to suit your preference, the road conditions, the type of trailer, and the weight of your load. To determine which levels are best for your application, test your towing setup and choose what feels right.

Video Transcript for Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee c51110

Today on our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee we'll be installing the CURT Venturer brake controller, part number C51110. We're going to be installing this in conjunction with the direct fit wiring harness or adapter, part number C51446. Now to begin our install we're first going to take the direct fit pigtail with the matching plug and plug directly into the manufacturer's brake controller tow port. Once we click and lock it in place we can go ahead and route the pigtail. Keep in mind to stay away from any moving components such as the gas, brake, or parking brake pedal. Once I have it routed into position, simply use a zip tie to secure it as necessary. To be in position you'll route it near where you're going to mount your brake controller.

Also, once I secure the wiring harness I'm going to go ahead and cut off the excess from the zip ties to clean up the install look. Now with the brake controller pigtail installed we're ready to mount the brake controller bracket. Our bracket and hardware are supplied with the install kit. Using the hardware we'll go ahead and secure the bracket here to the bottom of the dash. Now once we have the bracket mounted we can bring in the brake controller and secure it here to the pre-drilled holes in the side. I'll first go ahead and get them started hand tight and then run them down. Now once we have our brake controller mounted and secured we can take the pigtail coming from the back of the brake controller and our direct fit wiring harness, plug the two together.

Then we'll take the remaining portion of the wiring and tuck it up underneath the dash securing it. Now once we have our brake controller installed and secured we'll go ahead and test our new brake controller. We plug in a trailer with trailer braking. It will provide a load on the trailer brake controller and we can press on the brake pedal. You'll see our display light up, indicating we're supplying power to the trailer braking. We also have a manual slide here on our brake controller that will allows us to apply power to the trailer brake without pressing on the brake pedal. Couples additional features of our trailer brake controller is the manual slide here at the top of the brake controller to adjust the power being sent to the trailer braking so we can adjust it for lighter or heavier loads.

Now for increased power going to the trailer braking, you moving in the manual slide here behind the attachment point on the driver side forward will increase the power and speed at which the trailer brakes will be applied. By moving it back we'll get a slower, smoother application of the trailer braking. There you have it for the install and setup of the CURT Venturer brake controller, part number C5110, on our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. .

It was great, extremely easy to install and works perfectly just as expected.

Works as described! Installation was easy and instructions were clear. I needed to install a fuse in stud 1 spot on my 2007 GMC sierra classic, but after that, the brake controller activated my electric over hydraulic brakes on my triple axle boat trailer.
Couldn’t imagine what else would be needed beyond what’s offered here.

They provided me with everything necessary for this brake controller to make installation quick and easy. The price was reasonable and it works perfectly.

Slim and compact. The slide on clip holder is much better than the u bracket.

  • Custom Brake Controller Wiring Harness for 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Installation Location
For your 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the harness connection point is under the dash to the left hand side. I've attached a photo to help as well as a video of this installation. If you are using a Tekonsha Brake Controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 then you will use # TK93VR for your wiring harness. If you are using a Curt controller like # C74VV you will use harness # C51446. Finally if you are using a controller like the RedArc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR, then you will use the pigtail...

  • Green Light On all the Time for Curt Venturer Brake Controller
A single green light with the Curt brake controller part # C74VV means that no trailer is connector and the manual override or brake pedal is pressed. If you are seeing that all the time you most likely have a short between the power wire of the controller (black) and the stoplight wire (red) which makes the controller think the pedal is applied. Use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to probe the red wire of the controller. If it's seeing voltage all the time then my theory is correct....

  • Is Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller a Plug-and-Play Option on 2014 GMC Sierra?
If you have the factory tow package on your 2014 GMC Sierra 1500, which from your description it sounds like you do, then the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller # C74VV is plug-and-play. • Troubleshooting Venturer Brake Controller Red Light Comes On Intermittently
I can help you figure out what's going on with your Curt Venture # C74VV. First lets start with the Red Light that comes on intermittently. The loss of the trailer, intentional in your case, should result in a solid single red light. If this is more of your issue than blinking, the controller is just functioning the way its supposed to when the trailer isn't hooked up. If your red light is flashing instead of solidly lit, according to the directions, a flashing red light indicates that...

  • Troubleshooting Brake Controller Where Screen is Blank and Stopped Working
Most likely you blew a fuse if the brake controller screen one day stopped working. But that also depends on how the controller was installed. Basically the black wire of the brake controller needs to have 12 volts ran to it and the white needs to ground properly. If you can verify that and the controller still doesn't work though that would indicate the controller is bad. If it's a Curt Venturer # C74VV like what you referenced then I'd most likely think it's a bad controller as these...
