Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2011 Acura RDX - Draw-Tite

Today on our 2011 Acura RDX, we're going to take a look at, then show you how to install, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame custom fit trailer hitch receiver. This is a class three 2" opening hitch. Its part number is 75784. Here's what our hitch is going to look like once we get it installed on the vehicle. As you can see, it's one of the cleanest looking hitches that we offer. You don't see that tube that's going to come down and mate up with the hitch.

Really the only thing that you're going to be seeing added to the vehicle is the useful portion here. Really nice, clean look. We've got a larger end on it, gives us a little extra support, also helps with some of the hitch immobilizers. Then we've got a 5/8 pinhole with a smaller pinhole just in front of it. That 5/8 pinhole is going to work great for any of the anti-rattle devices or the locking hitch pins. The hole just in front of it is for use with the j-pin stabilization system.

You could really utilize that to secure your gear. This offers an extremely easy installation. You've got two existing weld nuts that you put a bolt into and then a small handle nut that you'll secure another bolt in. Four bolts to put in, no drilling or modifications needed whatsoever. This is a 2" by 2" hitch opening so it's going to work great for hitch cargo carriers, bike racks, or anything like that. It offers a 400 pound tongue weight rating and a 4,000 pound gross trailer weight rating.

Now you do want to refer to your owners manual to make sure that your vehicle can handle that. If not, just go off of whatever of those numbers are the lowest. A couple of measurements that will be important in helping you select your ball mount, bike rack, or maybe hitch cargo carrier will be from the ground to the inside top edge of the receiver tube opening we've got about 12-3/4". From the center of our hitch pinhole to the outermost edge of our bumper it's about 4. We'll start here by taking a look at our attachment points. We're going to have two located on the driver side and two in the same spot on the passenger side. Now for our forward-most to the one closest to the front of the car attachment point we're going to use the hole that's located right behind the larger hole.

It's going to be a handle nut that goes up in and in over top of that hole. We'll have a 1/2" bolt that's going to be go right up into it. Now just behind there you'll see the weld nut here. This is going to get the M12 fastener. That's the one that has the finer threads on it. Both of them will receive a conical tooth washer. Now it's a good idea to take a little bit of spray lubricant and also a nylon tube brush, and clean these weld nuts out in the rear. We don't have to worry about the front; we've got our own nut for that. Here in the rear there are existing weld nuts and we want to be sure that we have those free of any debris. You don't have the brush at home, it's part number 814092. Now we're ready to raise our hitch into position. We're going to secure it first using the M12 bolts and the conical tooth washers. Now the teeth of those washers nylon tube brush facing up towards our hitch. We'll start with it almost straight up and down, guide it up, and then just rotate it in. We'll line up our weld nuts with the holes in the hitch and thread our bolts in. Now once we get one started here in our passenger side, let's go over to our driver side and do the same thing. Now with our front two fasteners installed, let's get those handle nuts and get the rear ones started. As you can see, we'll put just a slight bend in them where they'll line up over top of the holes, and thread our bolts right in. We'll take a quick look just to be sure we have our hitch centered. Then we'll start running down our fasteners and securing them. Now we can go to the driver side and repeat that process. Now we'll grab our torque wrench and torque our fasteners down to the specification that we'll find in our instructions. Now we've got our hitch all snugged down. We're ready to hook up and we can hit the road. With our fasteners torqued to specification, that's going to complete our installation of the Draw-Tite Max-Frame trailer hitch receiver, part number 75784, on our 2011 Acura RDX. .

The Hidden Hitch arrived undamaged. It is well made, sturdy, with a nice finish. Installation took me about an hour on my 2013 RDX. I ended up removing the plastic pins that hold the fascia to the two brackets. It was the only way I could line up the holes. After I did the installation, I watched the Draw-Tite video, which is longer and more detailed than the Hidden video, and includes instructions to remove the pins before installation, and shows how the bend the brackets after installation. I wish I would have watched the Draw-Tite video before I did the installation, it would have saved time. Also raising the vehicle would have made the installation easier. But I am very pleased with etrailer.com and the final install. 84464

The service from e-trailer was great and the hitch arrived on time in good condition. Installing this hitch on my Acura RDX was very simple, and it fit perfectly under the bumper. I am in my 60's, and have no mechanical experience, and I installed the hitch in about 30 minutes. The reason it took that long was because an extra set of nuts had been included in the parts packet, and I had to watch the video a second time to make sure they were extras. I followed the advice of another commenter, and used a box to support the other end of the hitch while I installed the bolts. Great advice. The mounts are just barely past the bumper, so there is no need to have to raise the car to do the install. Make sure you watch the video as it make the process much simpler. Before going to etrailer I called the dealer to find out how much it would cost to buy and install a hitch. The price was almost $800 to buy and install a hitch that looked identical to the etrailer hitch. So I spent less than $200 total by buying through etrailer, and was able to install it at a time that was convenient for me, and in less time that it would have taken to have an appointment for an install. Do yourself a favor and buy your hitch from these guys! 183950

Etrailer website information and videos very helpful in researching appropriate product for my need. Telephone help (Brenden C) very helpful clarifying final questions to help ensure I was getting all required accessory hardware. Product delivered as promised. Was able to install it as planned. Very great overall experience. Would highly recommmend Etrailer to others. 504978

Rated good since etrailer did a great job expediting my order and getting it to me quickly. And, the hitch itself is heavy duty and good quality. However, installation was very difficult. This hitch must not have been tested on a 2013 Acura RDX. To say that the rear fascia may need to be slightly pulled down is a gross understatement (at least for the 2013 RDX). The holes would not line up by about 3/4 of an inch. The hitch was pushed directly against the fascia support brackets, which do not give easily. It took one person pulling very hard on the fascia while another person struggled to push the hitch in place so the holes would line up. Then, while struggling to do that, you have to hold the weight of the hitch and thread the screws. We eventually enlisted a third person to help. Would not rate this installation difficulty a 3. I eventually succeeded in installing the hitch, but a better design would have made it much easier. 49662

Product arrived on time and looks to be very study. As with other reviews the packaging was significantly torn by the loose trailer hitch that was only secured at one end inside the large cardboard box. This allowed the hitch to slide back and forth within the box. The hitch should be attached to the box at both ends. Fortunately, only the bottom back edge of the hitch had the paint scraped off. This is the part that tore the side of the box open for about 1.5 feet. No other damage. It bolted right into place within 25 minutes using a six-pack cooler as a second pair of hands to hold it up while inserting the bolts. My planned use for the hitch is for a bike rack and maybe a platform carrier. I would recommend the hitch but packaging leaves a lot to be desired. 439165

ACURA RDX 2014 AWD I love this website. They answered all my questions with all the details. Hitch it's really high quality and perfectly fit with the car. Set up pretty straight forward nothing complicated. It took me and my 14 year old daugther about 45 minutes to install it. Looks great on the car. It's doesn't look too extractive and work great with THULE rack. 135646

Hitch installed with exact fit, see photo "hitch.jpg". Instructions said the car's rear facia would slightly tuck over the top, but this tuck is so small you can't see it in regular viewing. I wanted the hitch to carry my really great rear mount bike rack. See photo "Bike Rack.jpg" Mission Accomplished! The mouth of the receiver is set back from the face of the car's bumper by about an inch. I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, the hitch is out-of-the way so you won't bruise your shins on it when its not being used. On the other hand, it is harder to reach the pin hole, and the load might end up very close to the car. With my bike rack, it was a close question, but it did clear the tailgate by a tiny margin, so probably no extension is needed. An extra inch of length on the receiver would be nice. 504967

Its hard to add to the reviews already posted but I'll add some thoughts. The first is that etrailer has been great to work with. Ordering was easy and the item arrived quickly, well packed, and with everything I needed to install the hitch. I even got a follow-up email from them asking for my feedback and whether I had any questions Now, the hitch is built like a tank. Its well made and is solid. Installation instructions in the package were clear and easy to follow, but watching the video online will make the process a breeze in your head. Its not hard at all. That said... this is best done as a two person job because the item is heavy and a bit awkward to move around. You are best backing the vehicle up onto a pair of ramps to give you the room underneath to work. Having a good floor jack is a help for positioning and maintaining the position of the hitch while threading the bolts needed for mounting. I put a towel on the cradle of the jack to help prevent scratching up the new hitch. The threaded holes in the body members that etrailer tells you to clean out with a brush can be kinda crummy if the vehicle isn't new. A brush will help, but having a tap that matches the threads would make the job the easiest. I didn't have one. The fine threads can make it hard to start the bolt, but once you do you can run it in a bit with ratchet wrench to make it easier to catch when you mount up the hitch. The bolt is coated so it fits very tightly. The bolt and handle nut were easy to install. I did the whole job by myself in about an hour and change. Make sure you have the right tools, including a good torque wrench and you should be fine. You'll need a 19mm socket and a longish extension to make life easier and to get the bolts tightened to spec. The hitch looks great and we are ready to carry/tow whatever we need! 562936

We ordered this hitch to install on our New 2016 Acura RDX so that we can haul our road bikes when traveling. The dealership wanted an incredible amount to install the Acura hitch. The product is excellent and fits perfectly to the predrilled wholes in the frame of the Acura. My wife helped me hold up one end while I held the other and place the bolts and tightened them. It took less than 30 minutes and saved me $500 that the dealership would have charged on top of the what I paid etrailer.com. I did not install the wiring harness as I don't expect to pull trailers with this vehicle. The Draw-Tite hitch is also a heavier duty hitch compared to the hitch from the Acura dealership. I was also very happy with the service from etrailer.com. We have had the hitch on the car for about 1.5 years and it still looks good and no rust. 376460

The hitch has done well. We only use it for bikes. I probably should get the wire harness sometime in case we pull a small trailer. Thanks

I ordered the DrawTite hitch for my 2017 Acura RDX and a Thule 2-bike carrier, and was notified that my order had shipped the same day I placed it. The hitch arrived on the delivery date promised. Like many others have mentioned in their reviews, the hitch had broken free from its flimsy internal supports and was sticking out the end of the box. However, hitches are made to live underneath cars for years, and nothing was damaged, just some minor paint scuffs. The carrier arrived a day later in good shape. I installed the hitch in less than an hour by myself--- and I'm 71, so this is proof that you don't have to be a young, fit guy to do the job, you can be an old, fit guy. My method might be considered unorthodox; my only helpers were a half inflated vinyl exercise ball and two of those flexible, rubber coated twisty tie things you can buy at [big box stores]. I threaded one tie through the unthreaded holes in each of the frame rails, with the ends hanging down, then placed the exercise ball in the middle where the center point of the hitch would be. I positioned (balanced) the hitch on the ball, then tilted one end to get it past the bumper fascia lip and the exhaust resonator. Once in place about an inch below the threaded bolt hole, I secured it in place with the twist tie and did the same at the other side. Then, I could just push the hitch up close enough to the bolt hole to get the bolt started on both sides. With the hitch securely hanging, I untied and removed the twist ties, installed the bolts in the unthreaded holes using the nuts-on-a-stick, and ran all the bolts down snug. From that point, all I had to do was torque everything to spec, put my tools away and treat myself to a cold beer as I gazed upon my finished project... 454590

Really glad I went through E-Trailer to get the hitch. First, I got advice from Nicole who help me decide on the hitch to get. Awesome person. Then I got follow-up e-mails from George letting me know my order's status. Finally, I watched the outstanding video on how to install the hitch and did the install. It was nearly flawless. Only issue is that I didn't have an extra pair of hands, so needed to come up with a non-human helping hand. I ended up using my RV leveling blocks to balance the hitch as close to the bolt holes as possible. Once I got one bolt started, the rest of it went without a hitch (pun intended). This is the 2nd hitch I purchased from E-Trailer. The other is on my 2012 Honda Fit. Again, the YouTube video eased my mind and convinced me that the install was within my capability. Great Company, awesome people, and superb products! You are the "go to" source for hitches! Keep up the great work!! 188363

This hitch fit perfectly and was extremely easy to install, didn’t have to move bumper and took only 15 minutes to complete job. Don’t waste your money paying someone else to install. It is however a two person operation. 553577

Pretty straight forward installing the hitch. Didn't have to lift up the car. Only problem I had was holding up the hitch while placing the bolts. The hitch is pretty heavy and need an extra strong person to hold it up. I did not have another person helping me but fortunately, I had some lifts to hold up the hitch. Once I figured out how to hold the hitch up, it took about 20 minutes to finish. Minor note.....the black welded bolts were difficult to get into the holes. Took about 5 minutes each. Might have been because I was lying down on the ground. Also, it comes with two hex nuts. These are meant for the welded bolts but I think they are just extra (since the welded bolts go straight into the vehicle). All in all, great value and excellent service. Received the hitch within a week on free shipping. 383021

Ok... thought you might like to hear from a auto repair shop. I chose this specific hitch and the supplier because of the reviews. The RDX is a new vehicle to the shop owners wife and we wanted the best we could find for her. We often use presumed simple jobs to help train our apprentices. This D.T. was no exception. I came out into the shop to check on his progress and it was installed! I mean in just a few minutes. Yes we had it up on a hoist, but the real insight was asking the techs, "how did it go?" Techs responded with the usual, just a few words... "slammed it" and "done". Folks... that means you can do it too at home. It looks great and the bosses wife is happy! Pictured are Master Technician Lance and Apprentice Technician Eric. Our recommendation to you is this... great product, great supplier, order it! 404414

Installed it by myself... somewhat tricky aligning first bolt because of it’s weight. So... I used a heavy duty zip tie on drivers side front hole to keep it in place. Then installed passenger side both bolts. Went back to drivers side, installed most rear bolt (most difficult one) then cut the zip tie and installed the last bolt. That’s it. 766718

Product arrived quick but had a hole in the side of the box where the receiver 2" hole had punched through, no worries it's steel. Installation was fine, took about 45 minutes. Helped to sit the hitch on some 2x4's to get it close to the frame holes. I had to bend the lower part of the bumper slightly to get the hitch up and inside near the holes so did not remove the bumper. Good instructions! 2017 Acura RDX 762108

In the attached installation instructions for the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75784 you can find the torque specs directly under step 4. Sometimes the manufacturers will slightly change some hardware to accommodate a wider range of vehicle so we always recommend checking with the current instructions (found on the link) just in case the torque setting has changed. I have attached a sample installation video for you to check out.

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2010 Acura RDX
For your 2010 Acura RDX the Draw Tite hitch part # 75784 is a confirmed fit and will work well for towing a small trailer or carrying a bike rack. I like this option over the Curt as it does not require the use of a stabilizer strap like the Curt does when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack. I attached an install video for this for you to check out as well. For trailer wiring you'd then want to use the Tekonsha kit part # 118500 which will give you a 4-way. This brand of...

  • Installing Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch on 2015 Acura RDX
The Draw-Tite Class III Max Frame Receiver Hitch # 75784 referenced in your question is confirmed to fit your 2015 Acura RDX. We do not have any installers based in Maryland, however any local mechanic or shop with a good reputation should be able to handle the installation without issue. Because the hitch is custom-fit for your vehicle, it will use existing holes in the vehicle's frame for a no-drill installation. It has an estimated installation time of around 40 minutes. All of the necessary...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2018 Acura RDX
For your 2018 Acura RDX I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75784. This Class III hitch is confirmed to fit your vehicle and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. It features a powder coated steel construction and its 4,000 pound towing weight capacity makes it the highest rated hitch available for your vehicle. Since it doesn't require the use of an additional stabilizing strap with non-trailer loads like the Curt alternative, this particular...

  • Where to Jack Up a 2014 Acura RDX to Install a Trailer Hitch
Officially, the rear jack point on the 2016 Acura RDX is a few inches forward of the rear tire. There is a tab on the vehicle that fits a notch in the jack that comes with the vehicle. But what I would do is go to a local auto parts store and get some ramps and back the vehicle up the ramps. Otherwise any strong structural component such as the frame/uni-body support would work. I would not use the wishbone suspension support bracket there in your picture because it is pretty far underneath...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch, Bike Carrier, And Cargo Carrier For 2016 Acura RDX
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2016 RDX is the Draw-Tite, part # 75784. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. I recommend a platform-style bike carrier for your Acura. These racks provide a more stable ride and it is easier to load and unload the bikes from the carrier. One of the nicest bike racks we offer is the Thule T2 Pro 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # TH9034XTS. This bike rack has a ton of great features that includes large wheel cradles that accommodates...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2015 Acura RDX
No, the 2004 Acura MDX and 2015 Acura RDX require different trailer hitches. For the 2015 Acura RDX you can use Draw-tite trailer hitch # 75784. I have included a link to a video showing installation of this hitch for you. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or...

  • Is Acura RDX Vehicle Warranty Affected by Installing Aftermarket Class III Trailer Hitch Receiver
Installing a hitch on a vehicle in order to use a 3-bike hitch bike carrier will not void your vehicle's transmission warranty if the hitch is installed in accordance with the written instructions and used within the weight bearing capabilities of the vehicle. Consumers are protected from such concerns by the Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act. The Act states, in part, that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty...

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 Acura RDX Towing Small Trailer
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2018 Acura RDX is the Draw Tite part # 75784 which is a confirmed fit. I recommend it because it has a two inch opening which has the best capacities, has a concealed crosstube so it will look the best, and because it comes with a bracket for trailer wiring to mount to. For trailer wiring you'd then want the Tekonsha kit part # 118569 because it is our most reliable option we offer for your RDX. Since you wanted to do some towing you might...

  • Does Rear Fascia Need to be Bent to Install Draw-Tite Class III 75784 Hitch on 2010 Acura RDX
I spoke with my contact at Draw-Tite regarding the install of the # 75784 Class III receiver on your 2010 Acura RDX. Unfortunately, they doesn't have any specific information about which particular model years the fascia would need to be temporarily moved. If you look at the installation instructions, you'll see that it's a pretty simple and straight forward installation. On some vehicles, there's not enough room to swing the hitch up into place, so the brackets holding the fascia...

  • Draw-Tite # 75784 Hitch and Swagman XTC4 Bike Rack Compatibility on 2011 Acura RDX
The 2-inch Draw-Tite Hitch we offer for your 2011 Acura RDX is part # 75784 which has a rated tongue weight capacity of 400-lbs. You are correct that any extender/adapter used in this hitch will reduce its capacity by half. This means that your hitch-and-extender would have a tongue weight rating of only 200-lbs. Since the Swagman XTC4 4-Bike Carrier # S64665 itself weighs 59-lbs, your net load capacity for your bikes would be only 141-lbs. This 35-lbs-per-bike may be enough for your...
