The arms on the Ascent are designed to make hooking up super easy. It gives you a lot of flexibility for getting your toad (towed vehicle) connected to your RV, without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot.
Just slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place, then extend the telescoping arms out until they reach the base plate tabs on your car. Then the swivel head joint allows the whole tow bar to twist left and right as you work to get the arms into place.
Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!
The Ascent's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.
Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.
Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply press down on the Ascent's non-binding levers to disengage the internal latches in the arms. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.
Blue Ox tow bars have triple-lug brackets to create an extra-secure connection to the base plate. It's a small detail with big benefits, as this crucial component of your flat tow setup is guaranteed to be tight and sturdy.
The Ascent folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Fold the tow bar up toward your RV and slide the storage bolt into the slot in the bracket on top of the tow bar shank. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.
For added protection from the elements, slip the Blue Ox tow bar cover (BX88309 - sold separately) over the Ascent when you're not using it.
Included with this tow bar are 2 coiled safety cables rated at 7,500 lbs. These cables, required by law, will keep your toad behind your RV if there's ever an accidental disconnect while towing. The steel hooks on each end of the cables connect to the toad's base plate and the RV's trailer hitch. The spring-loaded latches ensure that the S-hooks stay connected.
The coiled design of these cables prevents them from dragging on the ground and getting damaged, and the vinyl coating keeps them safe from the elements so that they last you the life of the tow bar.
Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.
For the RV | Between the RV and Towed Car | For the Towed Car |
---|---|---|
Hitch | Tow bar | Base plate |
Wiring plug | Safety cables | Braking system |
Wiring adapter cord | Wiring kit/diodes |
The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Ordering from etrailer is a breeze, there tracking of your order is also great. You can follow your shipment all the way to your door. Would highly recommend.
Arrived on time and as ordered.
I have purchased other items from etrailer and as usual the delivery is easy to follow and produce as advertised.
Fantastic customer service and delivery of my tow package in time for Christmas to me !!!
On the road in our RV when I discovered our 3yr 7mo Blue Ox Tow Bar had a failure that I was not going to be able to use again. I call Willian S at etrailer about getting a new Blue Ox Tow Bar and having it shipped to a nearby UPS store. William checked to ensure it would be delivered before our scheduled departure. Not only did he assure me it would meet the timeline but he checked it after shipping to make sure it got here. Also he checked about a “like new” tow bar which saved me ~$500. Thanks for keeping me on the road without delay!
Excellent product, well made. Excellent how-to videos on installing base plate and diode wire kit.
We made the best choice of recommendations when we purchased the Blue Ox Ascent tow bar for our Buick and Winnebago Tour Coach. The setup and hook-up are consistently easy to perform, and it takes us less than 10 minutes to be ready to tow our car. This is a great way to have your cake and eat it, too! LOL!!
Excellent product! I’m glad we got the Ascent (aluminum) model. It’s still heavy but less than the other. Everything went together perfectly! Great system!
Tow bar works great. Arms unlatch easy when taking tow off. Good quality would buy again.
Built well and was great for our towing needs!
Haven't used it as of yet but it is truly Blue Ox quality and I expect it to do just fine.
The service from etrailer was great as it is every time.

We use it on a regular basis and it functions very well.
Fast delivery
Tow bar arrived fast and undamaged.
We use this tow bar to tow a 2019 Ranger behind our 2010 Winnebago Journey.
The tow bar works flawlessly. Hook up and detaching from the truck is easy and best of all no binding.
The towbar works great, but it’s very very stiff. I was hoping it would loosen up with use, but so far it hasn’t. That’s the reason it lost one star
The Blue Ox tow bar is great. I had to replace my old tow bar when I forgot to lock a pin and broke it pulling out of a campground. Not only did etrailer have one in stock they overnighted the new one to me in Big Bend National Park Texas. Thanks etrailer for your excellent service and complete customer satisfaction.

After 10,000 miles its working just fine.
This is a wonderful
Company that I have purchased from for years! Timely and great attention to detail.
Exactly as advertised. At first, I thought the length might be a bit excessive, but when I turned sharp, I was very happy it was the length it is.
I went from an Avail I purchased from e-Trailer mid-2018. I went to the Ascent because it is lighter. The fact the old Avail was in it's 6th year of Full-Time use with over 44,000 miles, plus the desire to have a lighter tow bar made it an easy decision. The entire purchase was typical of e-Trailer; fast, economical, correct in all respects. The extensive videos of your products is an excellent feature that draws me back to e-Trailer over and over.
Perfect Fit. I watched the video's that etrailer provides and decided to take on the install myself. Everything from the base plates, diode wiring kit, drop receiver and Blue Ox Tow bar went just as the video's showed.
We are very happy with the service and parts etrailer.com has provided us for our 2022 Ford Ranger.
Worked perfect for my 2017 Jeep Wrangler JKU with a Maxis Towing assembly with 35” spacing.
