Smart diodes allow a motorhome that is towing a car to use that car's rear lights if the car has variable voltage LED lights. Unlike regular wiring diodes, smart diodes activate only the intended circuit - brake lights or tail lights.

Features:

  • Smart diodes allow a motorhome to power a towed car's lights
  • Works with variable voltage LED tail lights
  • Requires wiring and wiring supplies (sold separately)
  • Quantity: 2 diodes
  • Made in the USA
  • Limited lifetime warranty

Smart diodes allow a motorhome that is towing a car to use the vehicle's rear lights, provided it uses variable voltage tail lights. Variable voltage tail lights use the same wire to power the brake lights and tail lights. They do this by using a 12-volt signal for brakes and a 9-volt signal for tail lights.

If a regular wiring diode is used with variable voltage tail lights, then the bulb will light up as though the vehicle is braking whenever the tail lights are on. That is, you can't tell the difference between the brake lights and running lights. Smart Diodes correctly modulate the voltage to activate only the intended circuit. The result is vehicle lighting that looks and functions as intended.

Video Transcript for Review of Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring - Splices into Vehicle Wiring - RO54FR

Today we're going take a look at the Roadmaster Smart Diodes for the variable voltage LED taillights for a quantity of two diodes. Now these smart diodes will allow a motor home that's towing a car to use that car's rear lights if the car has variable voltage LED lights. Now the variable voltage taillights use the same wire to power both the brake lights and the tail lights, and they do this by using a 12 volt signal for the brakes and a nine volt signal for the taillights. So if a regular wiring diode is used with the variable voltage taillights, then the bulb will light up as though the vehicles breaking whenever the taillights are on. That is you can't tell the difference between the brake lights or the running lights. So these smart diodes will correctly modulate the voltage to activate only the intended circuit, and the result is your vehicle lighting will look and function as it's intended. Now if your vehicle does use incandescent lights, we do sell a separate kit that would work for the incandescent lights, and that's part number RO34FR and again, that's sold separately on our website.

Now this kit will work with the variable voltage LED taillights. Will also work on the standard LED lighting systems. It will protect the electronics in both vehicles. If you notice, it has a nice aluminum heat sink housing, dissipates the heat for longevity. It does require wiring and wiring supplies that we do sell separately on our website. This kit will include everything shown here, the two diodes with the connectors, and you can see they already pushed the connectors on there, so those are all included.

The two grounding screws and the two small round islet connectors. These parts are made in the USA. But that should do it for the review on the Roadmaster Smart Diodes for the variable voltage LED taillights.

Ask the Experts about this Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring

  • Smart Diodes and Wire For Flat Towing Vehicle Behind Motorhome
We do indeed offer smart diodes in two models, if the vehicle has incandescent lamps, use # RO34FR or part # RO54FR for vehicles with LED lamps. All the 7 to 6-way umbilicals we offer like # RM-146 use 16 gauge wire, however the # RM-146 meets the rest of your parameters, it's manufactured in the USA and has metal plugs on the ends. Unfortunately we don't offer bonded 4 wire in 14 gauge, although we do offer it in 16 gauge as part # 16-4B-1, which is sold by the foot.
