Note: For applications that have separate lighting, this kit will cause your brake lights to function as both brake and turn signal lights. A wiring converter (118158 - sold separately) and 2 additional diodes (RM-792) will be needed if you want to retain separate turn and brake signals.

Separate vs. Combined Lighting Systems

Some automobiles operate on a 3-wire system, wherein the brake signal and the turn signals travel along different wires to illuminate different lights. (Typically, these s have amber turn signals.) This is referred to as a "separate lighting system". When you hook up for flat towing using this kit, your towed car's lighting system will operate in a combined fashion regardless of whether it typically has combined or separate lighting. This means that the brake and turn signals sent by your RV to your towed car will be carried on a single wire. As a result, your car's brake lights will do the flashing for the turn signals. Your will still function as designed when not hooked up to your RV.

Do You Need a Brake Light Relay?

Because this kit wires your as a combined system, a brake light relay (RM-88400 - sold separately) may be required if you use a supplemental braking system with your towing setup. A supplemental braking system depresses the brake pedal in your towed car every time you apply the brakes in your RV. So, if your towed car's brake lights illuminate when the brake pedal is pressed and the engine is off - as is the case when towing - then you need to install a relay to ensure that the lights on your towed car always act in accordance with the signals sent by your RV via the wiring harness. Without a relay, the brake signal from your towed car will override the turn signal sent by your RV when you slow down to make turns, creating a potential hazard.

2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

First off, I am NOT a mechanic and I especially HATE auto electrical projects. However, I wanted to wire my Jeep to tow behind my motorhome so I ordered the Roadmaster Diode 7 wire to 6 wire wiring kit (RM 15267). While I think it took me longer to install than those with experience, I am happy to say I got it hooked up and working on my first try! The videos that came on my email confirmation were GREAT and really helped my experience. Thanks so much everyone at etrailer for helping make my project successful!

Ford F-250 Super Duty

This was easy to install and it works very well. I installed it on a Ford 2021 F250 pick up. The pick up does have the separate brake and turn signals, so you need to wire it as such. I would recommend this kit.

Comments
It was easy to install and works very well. Just follow the easy to follow diagram and instructions. I have had it for awhile and it works very well

The video had some good tips. I opt to run the wiring inside the passenger compartment. Which was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I also ran the wiring in some plastic loom to protect it.

Comments
The wiring was pretty straight forward. I would suggest adding a wire so the battery in the tow vehicle charges going down the road. I also added a diode so the Battery doesnt discharge back to the motor-home

I had purchased a new tow vehicle for my RV and purchased Item RM-15267. It has been just over 1 year and I towed my car across Canada and back (14'000km) with no issues. The install was not difficult thanks to the excellent instruction videos available online. I am not a mechanic, but have good common sense. Love the quality of all the products received. Thank you very much etrailer for providing quality products with great instructions.

by:

Kit had all the necessary parts to do the job and was easy to install. It is somewhat difficult to plug the cable into the tow vehicle end. Frequently it fails to stay in when testing for a solid connection.

Comments
Fine. Make sure you order the proper item. I have LED tail lights, which takes special diodes.

Roadmaster

This roadmaster tow bar has been one of the best. The lights on the side of the tow bar are bright and very helpful to other motorist on the roadway for visibility. It is durable and heavy duty. Very pleased.

by:

Installation was straight forward and took a couple hours. Items work very well, and are still in very good shape.
Have purchased many items from etrailer over the years, and they are always high quality. Customer service is very good whenever I have a question. Their installation videos are some of the best around.

by:

Outstanding product and even better customer service! Two backyard mechanics installed baseplate and braking system with just one call to confirm proper wire connection. Total package works great.

by:

Everything worked as advertised. The Etrailer videos were essential! Outstanding company.

by:

It was simple, relatively affordable and arrived in a few days. We will definitely use etrailer for future purchases. Thanks a bunch!

by:

Works as advertised. Installation takes some time but instructions were very good. No complaints.

great complete wiring kit for my 2014 gmc sierra 1500

by:
2012 Ford Edge

I ordered this kit to get me a heavy duty coiled cable with room to use one input as a dedicated power supply from the bus to then be sent to the towed battery to keep it charged going down the road.
the diodes i chose not to use, as i have a hopkins plug and play kit on the way, that will marry up the 6 pin fitting
I just needed the cable with the 7 to 6 adapters, it was the best price for the need :)

Comments
zero issues so far.

by:

The install was fairly straightforward and took maybe 5 hours. If you are used to auto work and removing body panels you can probably cut that time in half. Also, make sure you have good drill bits to get through the frame! No problems at all with the base plate after installation.

by:
Dodge Dakota

My experience with etrailer was good from the perspective of the cooperation and pleasantness. However, even though I was clear on the tow bar I had (Blue Ox) and the vehicle I was towing (2005 Dodge Dakota) when the tow package came and the shop I had installing it got to the end of the installation, it was discovered that the wrong pins were sent, i.e. they wouldn't lock in place - too short . At first we couldn't determine what the problem was, so I called etrailer back. Was told those were the correct pins. Finally called Blue Ox directly and the rep immediately told me (after I gave him the PN) that those were the wrong pins. Without me asking he offered and did send two replacement pins free of charge. They worked perfectly.

by:

Works as expected. I hook up and check lights and it works after numerous hook ups

Comments
Works good. Has one isse with water getting into crimp connectors. I recrimped connectors and added shrink tube and works great.

Jeep

We have towed our Jeep almost 2,000 miles since installing the recommended parts from etrailer and it has worked perfectly on every connect and disconnect along the way. Tows beautifully, even at 70 mph.

Excellent customer service and helpful videos from these folks. Would recommend to anyone needing help with parts and guidance in towing their toad to give them a call.

Comments
Our system is still working perfectly a year later. Our Jeep is a 2018 Cherokee Trailhawk and while we’ve seen some RV forums talk about “death wobble”, we have never experienced this using these Roadmaster products towbar & baseplate. We tow the Jeep with our 39’ Class A gasser and hardly know its back there. Even on sharp corners the Jeep follows perfectly and no binding. Connecting or disconnecting takes maybe 5 – 7 minutes. Then check all of our lights, make sure the Jeep is in neutral wbrakes off and we’re on our way. The braking system that we installed purchased from etrailer is the “Stay-n-Play Duo”. I would recommend that to anyone looking for easy operation. The installation time was a bit lengthy and involved but once completed makes all of your towing trips much easier. Just the flip of a switch and the braking system is ready for towing. No portable unit to lug around and adjust each time you tow your vehicle. The etrailer folks made the perfect recommendations for our needs and everything has worked GREAT!

Always have been satisfied with the products from E Trailer

by:

This wiring kit worked great for getting the lights to work from our coach. The instructions for installing are fine but running the wire to the taillights is up to you. I found it easier to pull the drivers front wheel so I had much better access for threading the wire. From there just keep it away from the exhaust that wasn't too hard. For connecting the taillights I viewed a few youtubes to learn how remove the taillights. You need to pull the fender flares and body panels to get access. A little unnerving on a new car.

by:

Not easy to mount the receptacle on the 2021 Jeep Gladiator bumper. Need some long stainless threaded rod and ss nylock nuts.

by:
2016 Entegra Coach Aspire Motorhome

The wiring kit was mostly OK. They claimed the wiring supplied was 27' long, however, what I received wasn't even 20' long. I had to made a splice on all wiring leads near the front of the bumper. The diodes and rest of the kit worked as described. Upon testing, there were no issues when hooked up to my rig. I also added the brake light relay and wired it through the supplied harness as well.

Comments
I reached out to Roadmaster and they confirmed the wiring with the kit is 27 feet long.

It is true. On some Jeep vehicles such as the 2017 Jeep Cherokee there is a special wiring harness needed for flat towing.
