Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bar Wiring RM-152-LED Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Roadmaster Taillight Wiring Kit for towed vehicles. Now this taillight kit gives you brake, running and turn signal lights for your towed vehicle without tapping into its wiring system. It bypasses the towed vehicle's electrical system completely so the wiring will actually be routed underneath the vehicle and held up and out of the way with the included cable ties. And the benefit of having it bypassing the vehicle's electrical system is that it really eliminates concerns of violating the vehicle manufacturers warranty. Now these are LED lights. They last longer, burn brighter and activate faster when compared to incandescent lights. The LEDs are red diodes and LEDs generate little heat so there's no risk of melting the lenses as long as you have adequate clearance in the taillight housing assembly. You'll notice that it features the independent bulbs and sockets.

They mount inside your taillights. They take up less space in the taillights when compared to incandescent bulbs and they do require a one inch diameter hole drilled in the taillight housing for the installation. It comes with what you need for the installations so you're going to get necessary wiring, two bulbs and sockets, zip ties. It does come with detailed installation instructions. Also comes with some wire loom to protect your wiring and it comes with the necessary connectors, ring terminal and a grounding screw. Now the plug and extension loop for hooking up to the RV, those items are not included and if you're in need of those you can find them at etrailer.com.

This kit is made in the USA. Wiring harness length is 27 feet long. Light output per bulb is 450 lumens. Overall length of the bulb is two and a half inches and the length of the bulb from the flange to the top of the bulb is two inches. So you want to make sure you have enough clearance in the taillight assembly for these to work.

The wire loom is three feet long and it has a half inch diameter. Now please note that each taillight housing on the towed vehicle, again, must have enough room for an extra bulb and socket. I want to hook this up to power that we can see what it looks like with power running to it. Black wire on this application is for our ground, brown is for the taillight function and then red would be for our stop and turn. So it sends out a very bright, consistent signal. Make sure I have them all connected correctly and we're going to go and turn off our overhead light so you can see it in a lower light setting.

This would be the taillights, brakes, and turn signal. That's going to do it for today's look at the Roadmaster Taillight Wiring Kit for towed vehicles.

2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Installation was straight forward, and in my situation easy. I have used every system on the market and this system is by far the best if it will fit in your lens. I installed it on a 2014 GMC Sierra which requires the ground cable to be removed when towing, so in my case grounding to the truck was useless - just use the ground from the tow vehicle. Also a 7/8 hole saw works better than the 1" that is called far. 335870

1989 Jeep Cherokee

Easy to install and no exposed wiring. Make sure you have room in the back of your tail lights for the socket assembly - I should have checked first because I had not a lot of room to work with but in the end they fit just fine. 500674

Do you have a question about this Tow Bar Wiring?

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2018 Chevy Spark Behind a Motorhome
  • All of the base plates from other manufacturers, Roadmaster and Blue Ox, carry forward from the 2017 to the 2018 Chevy Spark so we can glean from that information that the Demco base plates # DM9519326 will also fit. Please note this fit is for models with a manual transmission and without active air shutters. For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Commander # DM9511010. This is a non-binding tow bar which means that you won't have to be perfectly straight or level to hook up or unhook...

  • Will Roadmaster LED Tail Light Bulb and Socket Wiring Kit Work with Incandescent Bulbs on an RV
  • Yes, but, your RV likely has a trailer connector on it already and that connector is not tied into the RV tail light wiring so it would not affect Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles - LED Bulb and Socket - Red Item # RM-152-LED. Even if the RV did have a connector that was spliced into the tail light wiring on the RV this kit would still work for you! I have included a link to a video showing an example installation on a 2017 Chevy Spark.

  • Best Bulb and Socket Kit for Flat Towing 2018 Chevrolet Equinox
  • I do have an opinion for you but the RoadMaster Bulb and Socket Set part # RM-155-2 is not a confirmed fit for you 2018 Chevrolet Equinox. For a bulb and socket kit that will work with your vehicle, I recommend using the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs part # RM-155 for incandescent or part # RM-152-LED for LED. As long as you do not have the Premier edition then either of these kits will work well for you In order to install either kit you can also going to need a silicone...

  • Is There a Specific Location to Install the Wiring Kit # RM-152-LED on a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500
  • The 1" hole for the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit # RM-152-LED isn't actually very specific. Just as long as you have enough room for the LED bulb. I wish I could be a little more specific but we have never installed this kit on a 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 ourselves (as of Sept 2018) so we don't have an exact video to reference and the installation instructions are very generic. • Flat Towing Lighting Kit Options for 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This and all other flat towing wiring/lighting kits are shown on the linked page; a helpful article on the subject is linked too. LED lights use less power, are typically brighter and last much longer than standard incandescent bulbs. They also produce less waste heat, making them suitable for smaller light housings than regular bulbs which could melt plastic parts. No standard bulb...

  • Can the LED Bulb and Socket Kit # BX88267 be Installed on a 2009 Subaru Forester for Flat Towing
  • We do have an LED wiring kit just like the Kit # BX8869 that you referenced. It is found as part # BX88267 on our site. You can use the LED kit if your 2009 Subaru Forester does not have LED tail lights and if each tail light housing has enough room for an extra bulb and socket. It could be that there is no room for an extra bulb and socket which would be why the Roadmaster Kit # RM-152-LED isn't confirmed to fit. We had the chance to install this kit on a similar 2014 Chevy Sonic which I attached a link to the install video for you to check out.
