Video Transcript for Custer Tow Bar Wiring LIWSR1-7B Review

Take a look at the Custer Lite-it Magnetic Smart-Rider Wireless LED Tow-light with the 7-way blade connector. This wireless LED tow-light is very simple, lightweight and easy to use. It is a magnetic installation. There are no straps to fumble with. You just grab it, set it, and go. It uses these low profile magnets down here that have 90 lbs of pull.

They are rubber coated to protect the surface that you install it on. The light is contained in this durable polyethylene case that won't warp or crack, and it does connect easily via the 7-way blade wireless transmitter. Basically, you'll just plug this into the 7-way socket that's on your vehicle and that will allow it to supply power to this light. It does use the 44 bright LEDs for stop, tail and turn functions. On the very end, you'll see there's light on each end. Those will light up when you're in the taillight mode, because it will on the side maker lights. When you do charge this it requires about 4 to 6 hours to charge using the 12 volt charger right here. When you're charging it, basically you just plug it into there, and then plug it into your 12 volt source and this green light right here will light up to let you know that it's charging.

If the light doesn't come on, you need to make sure to check your connections. Once you charge it, it does give you up to 12 hours of use between the charging. Right here is your on and off switch. You can see the red light comes on to signify that it's on. The very bottom, if you unscrew these, you'll be able to have easy battery access and removal. This part comes with everything shown here on the table. It comes with the light bar itself, the charger for the 12 volt auxiliary outlet, and the 7-way blade wireless transmitter, and a nice set of instructions. I do want to give you a few dimensions on this and then we're gonna demonstrate the light itself.

The overall length of it end to end is right at 23 1/4" long. The height of it from the very bottom to the very top is going to be right at 3" tall, and the depth of it is right at 4 1/4" deep. What we're going to do now, is we're going to go ahead and I'm going to plug this into our power supply here, our 7-way transmitter. Then with that plugged in, what I'm going to try to demonstrate, back here I've got a display rack that is metal, so I'm just going to show you how the magnetic feature will work. If you'll notice it does attach. It has a very strong pull, 90 lbs of pull, so it will hold on, and it won't move away. Then you go to the back here, flip it on.

The red light is on, so it's ready to go. What I'm going to do is go ahead and turn off our overhead lights. Then we're going to go head and turn on the taillight. You can see, there's our taillight function. Then we'll do our stop. There's our stop function, you can see it's all lit up. Then here's our turn. You see our turn functions. We'll go ahead and turn our taillights off. Turn our lights back on. Then we'll go ahead and remove it from our .. That should do it for the review on the Custer Lite-it Magnetic Smart-Rider Wireless LED Tow-light with 7-way blade connector.

I use the light bar on my SUV towed behind my RV. The towed vehicle is a $50k SUV so I was not excited about tapping into the wiring, or drilling holes in the taillight for an extra incandescent light in a well designed LED setup. I just have two comments. One make sure you zip tie the transmitter. If you are driving on 95 in the Northeast it will vibrate out. I am glad I thought of it or I would have been very unhappy. Second, you can not tell if the light runs out of juice. If it was not for irate truckers honking I would not have known. Be ready with a backup power supply in case your driving day includes a 3 hour delay due to accidents. Otherwise it has clung well, worked great and is very bright. I would recommend this product for any tower’s 455217

I just received the Custer Smart Light from etrailer yesterday. Charged the light bar for a few hours as recommended then mounted it to the roof of my SUV and plugged the transmitter into my motorhome. The light bar works as advertised. Time will tell if this item holds up to about 8K miles of towing per year. If all is well after a years use I give it 5 stars. 402632

  • Recommended Flat Towing System For 2017 Chevy Spark With Manual Transmission
  • According to the 2017 Chevy Spark owners manual, only the manual transmission vehicles can be flat towed. Automatic transmission vehicles can only be transported with all four wheels off the ground on a trailer. If you have the manual transmission, then I recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-523185-4 if you don't have active air shutters. This installation should use the Loctite Threadlocker # LT37420. For a tow bar that either stays with the vehicle...

  • Recommended Parts to Dinghy Tow a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic LT Sedan
  • I have the perfect setup to dinghy tow your 2017 Chevrolet Sonic LT. For a tow bar I recommend using the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part # BX1703. This kit does not require any welding and has base plate tabs that can be removed for a very clean look when you are not towing your Sonic. The next thing that you will need is a tow bar. I really like the Blue Ox Alpha, part # BX7365, for this setup because it works well with the base plate kit and it comes with safety cables. This tow bar...

You'll need: -Safety cables like part # RM-643. -A wiring solution so the taillights work along with the RV, like the wireless magnetic tow lights from Custer, part # LIWSR1-7B. -A supplemental braking system like the SMI Stay-In-Play DUO, part # SM99251 I'll link you to some of our help articles that contain much more information...

The linked overview article is a great place to start since it lists all the items needed along with the options available. Let's start with the base plates for the Rubicon. • I might have a solution for you. You will need to replace the current 7-way trailer connector on the RV with # HM48470 that has both a 7-way and 4-way connector. Then you can use the wireless LED light bar # LIWSR1-7B plugged into the 7-way with your dolly plugged into the 4-way. You'll also need a 12-volt socket in the cargo area of the vehicle if there isn't already one. You can use # RM-9332. • Tow Bar, Base Plates and Flat Towing Accessories for 1996 Geo Metro
  • To flat tow your 1996 Geo Metro, you'll need a towbar, base plates, safety cables, a method of wiring the vehicle so the taillights of the tow vehicle operate those of the Metro and a supplemental braking system. The Blue Ox Adventurer you referenced, part # BX7322 would work fine. For a base plate that bolts to the front of the vehicle frame and provides an attachment point for the tow bar, you could use the Blue Ox # BX3507 (as long as your vehicle isn't a GTI model.) • Can The Custer Lite-It Smart Rider Wireless LED Tow Light Be Plugged Into 12V Power While Towing?
  • On the Custer Lite-It SMART Rider Wireless LED Tow Light - Magnetic - 7-Way Blade Connector # LIWSR1-7B, the 12V charger can be connected while towing without issue. My contact at Custer recommends not leaving it connected after towing as it can continue to pull power and will eventually cause that battery to fail from overcharging it. For typical towing, you won't have it plugged in too long so that shouldn't be an issue as long as it is unplugged when you are done for the day.

  • Recommended Wireless Magnetic LED Tow Light
  • We carry the Custer Lite-it Wireless tow light system # LIWSR1-7B that do not splice into the vehicle wiring as you said you wanted. We do not carry the Pilot lights you mentioned. The great feature about the # LIWSR1-7B is that it is a magnetic light and you only have to be concerned with one area to attach it to. This system has a charging cord for the light, where the Pilot system uses 6 AA batteries that can be a hassle when the batteries go dead.

However, it charges via a 12 volt power outlet on a vehicle and since it is meant to be used on a vehicle that is being towed there are a couple of potential issues that could arise from this set up.
