Video Transcript for Custer Magnetic Towing Light Kit Review

We're going to review the magnetic towing lights from Custer, part number C-ATL20A. With this part number, this is what you receive: Of course, here's your two lights right here, with magnetic bases. This will provide running lights, right turn and left turn, and brake lights. These two lights are connected by a cord right here, which is about 60 inches long, so you can make this pretty wide on the vehicle, or whatever object you're pulling down the road. It gets connected to your lights on your towing vehicle with a four pole connector. This cord is about 20 foot long. If you need to, it comes with a replacement four pole for your vehicle, or if you need to add it to use whatever you're going to tow down the road. It also has some quick splice connectors to make your connections to the wiring on that vehicle.

Now, if you're going to be using this behind a RV, or a truck for that matter, a lot of newer vehicles and RVs use a 7 pole connector. You could easily adapt this up to a 7 pole connector by using part number PK12716. All right, let's go ahead and try it out. Simply take our lights, put them on top here. Make sure you get as much contact as possible with the metal part of the roof. Notice that we have our cord with the yellow wire going towards the left side.

Take our other one, going towards the right side, then we'll take our cord and run it towards the front. We'll open the tailgate, and put the wire inside, and shut the tailgate on it. Now, we'll run the cord to the front. There's a variety of ways you could do it. You could zip tie it to the roof rack that's on top, like this vehicle here. If you don't have that, what I've seen done is they just simply just bring it to the inside a little bit, and shut the door and help hold it in place. Typically, there's going to be enough room in between the doors for this wire.

We could do the same thing for the front door. Next, we can actually open up the hood up, and hide it underneath there as well. Bring it towards the center, just make sure you stay away from the latch. Now, we go ahead and run this up to the front, and onto our connector on the RV. Before you go on a trip, it's always a good idea to try it out and make sure they work. Let's go ahead and see how they work.

First we'll go ahead and try the taillight circuit. Turn that off. Next we'll go ahead and try the right turn signal. Now try the left turn signal. Okay. Looks like everything works. Now, you're brake signal is actually on the same circuit as your turn signal, so we know that's a good circuit as well. All right, let's go ahead and take it for a test drive, and see how they look and how they work. With that, that'll finish it for the magnetic towing light kit, part number C-ATL20A, from Custer.

product receives on date estimated. works like a charm. service was excellent, wil certainly purchase again. was disappointed on one product which you did not have and should, namely a splitter. male end with two (2) female ends. very common item, used as follows. male end connects to female end from towing vehicle, other two ends ,one to iow lites, other to tow dolly lites. some states require both, better to be on the side of caution, than being stopped ans have no answer. in all my years as a prof. eng. cover all bases, t5his little item is about 12" long. had to make my own t 661039

Just used the lights towing a jeep from southern California to Oregon and they worked fine. The total wire length was just a little short on a small jeep up to the rear of a pick up. Possibly 1-2 feet more would be more versatile for more applications. 374648

There isn't enough wire to go from the back roof of my suv through the interior of the car, to under the hood and then out to the plug on my motor home, on the opposite side of where it leaves the lights. I'll fix it, but not enough wire was provided to splice it in. The reason for the interior routing was to prevent wire whip marks in my paint as I drive. 307641

This was my first order and experience with E-trailer. I would like to say every aspect of my purchase from start to finish was excellent! Works great! I used it on my car's bike rack and it greatly improves my visibility to other motorists. The magnets that hold it in place are very strong so I'm not worried about them falling off if I hit a bump. E-trailer delivered them the day after I ordered them. Great service as always with E-trailer! 22197

  • Flat Tow Light Recommendation for a Jeep Wrangler
For a Jeep Wrangler like yours there really isn't a good place to attach magnetic tow lights like the part # C-ATL20A. The E-Z Mount Tow Light Kit # EZT20B would be a much better option since it doesn't require a metal surface to attach to. You could shut it in the rear door or even the rear glass hatch. Check out the install video I attached as well.

  • What Parts Needed for Flat Towing a 2005 Saturn Ion
The Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar, part # RM-520, and Roadmaster MX Base Plate kit, part # 3136-3 will work just fine with your 2005 Saturn Ion. If you will be towing your Saturn behind an RV or Motorhome, you may not need to have a brake system for the Ion. The Ion is small enough and light enough that an RV or Motorhome has sufficient stopping power for itself and the Ion, however, brakes are a good idea and are required by some state law and by some RV Manufacturer warranties. In order to safely tow your 2006 Dodge Dakota Pickup behind your motor home, you will need a hitch on your motor home, base plates on the front of your vehicle, a tow bar and a few accessories. This Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch part # 31228 is intended for the front of a vehicle for use with snow plows, winches and tow hooks, so that would not work for your application. However, we carry the products you will need to get the job done. You will need base plates for your vehicle. The...

  • Parts Needed to Replace All Wiring a Single Axle Cargo Trailer
To completely rewire your cargo trailer, I would recommend picking up a trailer light kit like the Standard Light Kit, # TL5RK, or # TLL9RK for LED lights. These kits include all necessary wiring and hardware needed to install the lights on your trailer. The LED light kit does not include clearance lights. To add clearance lights, I would recommend using # MCL31AB. The best option would be the LED lights because they only use a fraction of the power that the incandescent lights use....

  • Can 2014 GMC Terrain be Safely Driven After Removing Fuse 32 for Flat Towing
Fuse 32 inside the in-cab fuse panel on the 2014 GMC Terrain is for the ignition switch. It appears to control a switch related to the key position in the ignition. The vehicle will still start and run but something related to the ignition will not have power if you do so. Therefore it is not recommended to drive without it. You can install a bypass switch # RM76511 to disable power to this fuse rather than having to pull it and put it back in every time. When flat towing the vehicle...

  • Protecting Vehicle Paint from Scratches When Using Magnetic Towing Light Kit # C-ATL20A
One solution would be to wrap the wires that contact the vehicle in electrical tape. Electrical tape is soft and will not scratch or scuff the vehicle paint. It will also help to protect the wires for the elements. The downside is that a lot of people do not like the look of the electrical tape. Another option could be to use a wire loom like # 459075 (which is 100 feet worth). The benefit is that it looks better than the tape. The downside is that it is plastic and some edges may be...

You can use the Quick Fix(TM) 4 Pole Flat Car and Trailer Ends, # 48195. With this kit you get one trailer end and one vehicle end.
