Video Transcript for MaxxTow Magnetic Tow Lights Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to be taking a look at MaxxTow's Magnetic Tow Lights, part number MT 70097. These lights are going to be a quick and easy way to be in compliance while towing your vehicle behind your RV. You don't have to tap into any wiring on your vehicle, you simply just set them on top, drop you wire up to your four pole flat connector onto your RV and you're ready to hit the road. These light will utilize long lasting ultra bright LED's and features two colors. You've got red on one side for your braking lamps, and on the other side you have an amber color which is more of your warning lamp. This is nice because you can add signaling on both sides. So people behind you will see the red and people slightly in front of you or to the side of you will be able to see the yellow.

That's going to make it safe while merging and changing lanes on the highway. They're held in place with a powerful magnetic base. This will keep it secure while going down the road and it will work on any metal magnetic surface. Some people wonder if it will work with a metal surface that has a plastic covering. This is depending upon the thickness of the plastic covering. It's recommended that you place it directly onto a metal surface. It features a 20' long harness that you can route up through your vehicle down to your RV.

This will ensure that regardless of high-low adapters and length of tow bars you'll have enough length wiring to get from here to there with no issues. On the other end of your harness you'll have a four pole flat connector. This will plug right in to the connector on your RV. If you only have seven pull connector on your RV you may need to purchase an adaptor. You can get one here at etrailer.com.

That will go from seven way to four way.The wiring is going to be color coded to match standard trailer four pole flat wiring. And you'll get an additional end that you can splice into the connector on your RV to make the connection, so that way you can both have your seven and four way connector. It measures about 4 1/4". So they're going to be large enough to be seen during the day and at the night. When compared to wireless ones, what's nice about this, even though you do have to take the cable and run it up, it doesn't take very long and it's going to receive all of it's power from your RV, whereas the wireless ones are going to require batteries so you have to periodically check them to ensure that they are not dead and your not getting your signals transferred while going down the road.Additionally, if you compare these to permanent mount systems, such as diodes or LED bulb kits that can be installed in your vehicle, these ones don't require any modifications where those have to either splice into the wiring or modify the taillight to get those installed. You can always flip them around and turn on your hazard warning light while performing roadside maintenance to let everyone around you know that you're at your vehicle assisting it on the side of the road. These lights are limited to just flat tow set ups.

You can use these with boat trailers, jet ski trailers, regular trailers. So whether or not your trailer has lights, doesn't have lights, or the lights in it might just be broken and you need to slip these on it real quick just to get you down the road. They'll be there for you.And that completes our look at MaxxTow's Magnetic Tow Lights, part number MT70097.

Purchased for my towed Jeep from my Fleetwood MH, the wires at the 4 prong flat failed after using for approx 1000 miles. Had wrapped wires with electrical tape to try to protect them. Spliced a new 4 prong male and that lasted about another 1000 miles. The wire is so fine, that it is almost impossible to repair or work with. The LED lights work fine, wire is just not durable. 697913

I took this kit out of the box and set the magnetic lights on top of the car. I then took them off to see how strong the magnets were. They came off way to easy. I'm Afraid they would come off just driving down the Hwy without being in any wind. Cross wind, head wind or any wind at all. I'm going to cut the lights off and use the harness and add light sockets in my tail lights. 141411

will do what i want but plastic on lenses is very cheap and i am not sure it will last long without cracking. magnets seem plenty strong wires are not quite long enough to go over wrangler roof but are to go down the side 525967

I use these towing lights on my bike rack and they function as expected. I would give five starts but the wiring is the simple 4-wire (not in a loom) and they do not provide separate turn (amber) and stop (red) functionality to match the vehicle. For the price though, they are a solid set and will do the job. I find the magnets to be quite strong; indeed, I actually mount these lights upside down to maximize visibility of the lights on the bike rack. I attach ‘releasable’ cable ties to the lights to be on the safe side. When I fold the rack up (no bikes) and down (hauling bikes), I simply release the ties slightly and move the lights so they are facing the rear and retighten the ties. To customize these lights for my bike rack application, I purchased some loom tubing ($5) from the local box store. I considered cutting the wires and soldering them to length (which is an option), but elected to neatly fold the wires in the loom tubing back and forth and add a coat of quality electrical tape on the outside of the full loom. At each wire fold, I taped the wires and found there to be sufficient room in the loom everywhere (i.e., wires were not overstuffed), which ensures adequate heat release. Overall, this approach preserves the full functionality of the tow lights in case I trade the bike rack for a boat, which will never happen, while also providing for a clean look for my application. Of course, you could simply cable tie the extra wire, but I prefer the extra five dollars for the clean look (and added protection of the wires). Don’t obscure your tail lights with your rack! These lights will do the trick. 660114

Straight forward and easy to use. A few problems though. . The magnets holding the lights to the car are to weak and a good jolt will dislodge them. The LED lights can be difficult to see in the bright sun. Other than that, a decent setup for the money. 272486

I want to thank Jessica and Adam for there professional and mental health service for me, after they figured out what i needed it was ordered and shipped without a problem. I had a licensed auto shop install the bracket for the tow bar and if fit perfect and i was only charged 240 dollars for labor and 30 dollars for bolts. This is a superior system very easy to take on and off and very well made in the USA. 547207

Bought these to pair with a hitch mounted bike rack. Well designed and works as expected. Very bright LED lights. 4-pin connector plug setup makes for plug and play right out of the box. Lights have powerful magnets in the base which stick to the metal bike rack without issue. Used velcro cable straps to take up the slack and tidy up the installation. No permanent installation needed, as I can take them quickly off the bike rack if not needed. 711194

My entire experience dealing with etrailer was great. Couldn't ask for a more helpful or informed associate helping me find the right product. The trailer lights are perfect for what I needed and helped me avoid having to trace wiring issues in the trailer itself. If I were to change anything regarding the product I would use slightly heavier gauge wiring. I did have an issue (at no fault of the product) where I had to repair the wiring and it is quite fragile. I still give the product an "A." 644293

Jeep Liberty

We needed a fast solution for towing a Jeep Liberty behind a class C RV. This kit worked well for us. The only drawback was not the product but the vehicle. The lights had magnetic bases and the Liberty has a mostly plastic body or contours where the lights would be best placed. We used a small C channel laced through the roof rack end pieces and then secured the lights to the bar with machine screws making a removable light bar. Threading the wires through the rack, down the passenger side of the windshield and through the engine compartment and out the grille, it made it easy to connect to the RV wiring and travel safely. 483133

  • Can a 2017 Subaru Crosstrek Be Flat-Towed
If your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek has an automatic transmission then no, it cannot be flat-towed with four wheels down. It must instead be towed on a trailer with all four wheels off the ground. However, if your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek has a manual transmission then yes, it can be flat-towed with four wheels down. That said, flat-towing setups are not exactly cost effective which is something to bear in mind but I have attached for you below a list of cost effective flat-towing parts you can...
