Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751471

Avoid damage to your towed car by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom-fit for your vehicle

By tapping into your towed car's brake-light switch, this kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With RoadMaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits. You'll want to refer to our fit guide for the appropriate switch kit for your vehicle. Here on our motor home we have our indicator light that's connected to our stoplight switch. When this light illuminates, we know that our braking system that is installed is applying the brake pedal in our towed vehicle. And we're going to get this signal thanks to our stoplight switch. Here when I hit the brake in our motor home, the light's illuminated so I know that our braking system is working properly. This stoplight switch is going to provide you with an additional brake stop signal. This is important if you're flat towing a vehicle that doesn't have a brake signal when in tow mode.

Without a signal you'll have no way of monitoring whether or not your brake pedal is being depressed. You can use this stoplight switch to connect to the indicator that comes with your supplemental braking system so you can verify for sure that your brake pedal's being depressed when you hit the brakes in your motor home.In most instances it'll be well hidden or blend in with the rest of the wiring down below so you won't even notice it. Here you can barely even glimpse the switch itself. And the kit comes with everything you need to get it installed. This includes the switch, the wiring, the fuse and the custom bracket that's specifically made for it to mount right onto your vehicle.

The bracket's really what makes it custom for your vehicle. It allows the switch to mount seamlessly and easily adjusts to the contour of your brake pedal.A less common use is for a brake controller. If your vehicle doesn't have a compatible brake signal for your brake controller then you can install one of these and get that signal for your brake controller to easily hook up to your trailer. And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits.

This product worked exactly as described. Some things to be aware of. 1. It's a yellow dichromate plated solenoid. Not plastic grey. Nice 2. The video for the 2018 Cherokee shows a 4 bolt brake booster. 2019 Cherokee has a 5 bolt brake booster that has a black plastic frame. Use the same bolt location in the video and it works great. You'll need a deep socket and extension. 13mm. 3. PUT the solenoid on BEFORE attaching bracket. If for some reason you forget, Have someone depress brake pedal and then there's plenty of room to install. 620311

Do you have a question about this Tow Bar Braking System?

  • Parts Needed to Flat-Tow a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk
  • In order to flat-tow a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk you are going to need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety chains, flat-tow wiring, a supplemental braking system, and a possible high-low adapter. I have attached my recommendation on the following parts for you below. Base Plate Kit: Roadmaster EZ4 Base Plate Kit part # RM-521451-4 - This kit has removable arms for a clean look while unhooked from the RV. As long as you do not have the active air shutter system it will work for you....

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited, Latitude or Latitude Plus
  • For your 2019 Jeep Cherokee you'll need to first start with a base plate kit. For that you'd want the part # RM-521452-4. This fits the Latitude, Latitude Plus and Limited models. If you have an Overland, Trailhawk, or Trailhawk Elite you'd want the # RM-521451-5. Next you'll need a tow bar which for that the Roadmaster Sterling part # RM-576 is your best option for if you have the Latitude or Limited models since you'll need the included crossbar. If you have an Overland or Trailhawk...

  • Is MOPAR Part # 68321424AB Required to Flat Tow a 2018 Jeep Cherokee
  • From our experience the part 68321424AB is required on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee. I recommend checking with a dealership for confirmation. Unfortunately, that part must be sourced at a dealership as well. We do however, have everything else you may need to flat tow the Jeep. The custom base plate kit you need is either part # RM-521447-5, if your Jeep is not a Trailhawk or part # RM-521446-5 if it is. These will connect directly to the Falcon 2 tow bar, part # RM-520. Then you can...

  • Why Does Flat Towing 2018 Jeep Cherokee Require Special Harness for Power Steering 68321424AB
  • From our experience the part 68321424AB is required on a 2018 Jeep Cherokee when flat towing. I recommend checking with a dealership for confirmation. The harness is designed to address a "wobble" or steering issue that occurs sometimes when the vehicle is flat towing. The newer Cherokee 4x4's have electric power steering. Many people reported a severe shaking/wobble while towing over rough roads. Jeep issued a Service Bulletin which calls for a special wiring harness which keeps the PS...

  • When is Roadmaster Stop Light Switch RM-751471 Required for Flat Towing
  • On your 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland you will need the Roadmaster Stop Light Switch # RM-751471 only if EITHER your vehicle's brake lights do NOT illuminate when the vehicle is off OR if the ignition is in the "tow" position. You can avoid use of the relay # RM-88400 if you use magnetic lights like # TL21RK.

You can use your Roadmaster Falcon 5250 tow bar with these base plates, you will just need the Roadmaster Tow Bar to Blue Ox Brackets Adapter # RM-031. I have added a link to a video install of these base plates on a '19 Cherokee for you to check out. Please keep in mind you will also need Safety Chains # RM-643. Please see the attached photo for information from the online owners manual. f you have the 2 speed case, then I recommend the following parts for your system: I recommend starting with the Roadmaster EZ5 Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms # RM-521447-5 and then using the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520. Along with this use safety cables # RM-643. Then...
