Roadmaster Tow Bar Braking Systems - RM-751437

Avoid damage to your vehicle by ensuring that your supplemental braking system is properly positioned and working effectively. Kit activates your RV monitoring system to alert you when the brakes of your towed car are being applied.

Features:

  • Activates motorhome brake-monitoring system whenever brake pedal in towed car is applied
    • Ensures that the supplemental braking system is functioning properly
  • Works great for any application that does not have a tow position in the ignition
  • Wires directly into towed car's fuse box for constant current
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • 12 Volts
  • Application: custom fit for your vehicle

This kit allows your RV's monitoring system to alert you whenever the brake pedal of your towed car is being applied. Other systems operate according to whether the air cylinder is extended and provide no indication of what is happening with the pedal itself. If your supplemental braking system is improperly installed, it may be continuously pressing on the pedal, impeding it from fully retracting and possibly causing damage to your vehicle's tires and braking system. With Roadmaster's Stop Light Switch Kit, you will always know when the brake is being depressed, and you will avoid costly damage.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Stop Light Switch Kit Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits. You'll want to refer to our fit guide for the appropriate switch kit for your vehicle. Here on our motor home we have our indicator light that's connected to our stoplight switch. When this light illuminates, we know that our braking system that is installed is applying the brake pedal in our towed vehicle. And we're going to get this signal thanks to our stoplight switch. Here when I hit the brake in our motor home, the light's illuminated so I know that our braking system is working properly. This stoplight switch is going to provide you with an additional brake stop signal. This is important if you're flat towing a vehicle that doesn't have a brake signal when in tow mode.

Without a signal you'll have no way of monitoring whether or not your brake pedal is being depressed. You can use this stoplight switch to connect to the indicator that comes with your supplemental braking system so you can verify for sure that your brake pedal's being depressed when you hit the brakes in your motor home.In most instances it'll be well hidden or blend in with the rest of the wiring down below so you won't even notice it. Here you can barely even glimpse the switch itself. And the kit comes with everything you need to get it installed. This includes the switch, the wiring, the fuse and the custom bracket that's specifically made for it to mount right onto your vehicle.

The bracket's really what makes it custom for your vehicle. It allows the switch to mount seamlessly and easily adjusts to the contour of your brake pedal.A less common use is for a brake controller. If your vehicle doesn't have a compatible brake signal for your brake controller then you can install one of these and get that signal for your brake controller to easily hook up to your trailer. And that completes our look at Roadmaster's line of custom stoplight switch kits.

I did not order this item! It has only been suggested to me by an eTrailer employee in my quest to find the correct parts I need to tow my vehicle behind my motorhome! Your website suggested I purchase a "Stop Light Switch" for my vehicle but after I ordered it one eTrailer employee said I cannot use it in my vehicle as I have to disconnect the vehicle's battery. The picture of the RM-751437 shows a 7-pin plug but my motorhome has only a 3 pin plug! Do I need a 3-pin to 7-pin adapter? I also ordered the Roadmaster Invisibrake which was approved for my vehicle. Doesn't this run off or the car battery? I am no wiring expert and I also don't want to keep purchasing the wrong items (like the Stop Light Switch that I have to send back). I had ordered a Steering Stabilizer for my motorhome a couple of years ago and I got good advice on the exact part need and its installation. Why do I feel like I am on my own on ordering this towing equipment? 444563

  • 2013 Smart Car Flat Towing Component Installation
  • For your 2013 Smart fortwo, I will walk though the parts listed to confirm fits and compatibility to assist. The Blue Ox base plates # BX1987 is a confirmed fit and will work well with the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar - Motorhome Mount - 6,500 lbs # BX7365 you referenced which comes with the safety cables. For your tow bar wiring, the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 is an excellent choice to give you the clean connection and utilize your factory wiring while...

In addition to the tow bar and base plates there are a few other items needed to properly and safely flat tow the vehicle. First you will need some safety cables, # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground. Next you will need...

  • Does a 2014 Smart fortwo Need a Stop Light Switch When Flat Towing
  • Essentially you need both. The diode kit # RM-15267 powers the lights of your 2014 Smart fortwo so that you'll have running, brake, and turn signals while it's being flat towed. Then the Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751437 is used to alert you whenever the brake pedal of the Smart car is being applied. It taps into the brake light switch and makes sure the supplemental braking system is working correctly. In addition to the lighting and stop light switch you'll also need a base plate...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2014 Smart fortwo
  • First let's start with a base plate kit for your 2014 Smart forwo. For that you would want the part # 52285-1 which is a confirmed fit. In addition to the base plates, you will also need a compatible tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking to flat tow your vehicle. The most popular compatible tow bar is the Falcon 2, # RM-520. The telescoping arms and the fact that it stores on the RV and not the vehicle make it one of the easiest to use. For safety cables you can...

  • There are a number of parts you're going to need in order to flat tow your 2008 Smart Fortwo, starting with compatible base plates. I recommend the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 52285-1.
