Proportional Braking
A vast improvement over "on/off" systems, which brake at a single pre-set level, the Patriot II has a proportional design for equal braking. The actuator inside your towed car applies the brakes with the same intensity that you apply to them in your RV. If you slam on the RV's brakes in an emergency situation, the Patriot II engages your towed car's brakes with virtually the same intensity. If you press the RV's brakes just enough to slow a bit, your towed car's brakes are depressed just enough to slow it down, as well. The result is improved control, better stopping and less wear on both your vehicle's and RV's brakes.

Jeep Patriot
Works like a champ. Still not sure what improvements they made with the Patriot 3 but this unit does everything it needs and then some. Really easy to set up. Lightweight. Great peace of mind while travelling knowing that the RV brakes are not having to shoulder the load of the weight of the toad as well.

It is definitely a quality piece. How ever because of Covit 19 i still have not used it.
Ended up selling Motorhome but in the market for another. I believe RV prices are inflated due to Covit 19 and will fall as Covit 19 is controlled happening now. Most will go back to Airplanes and Cruise ships. I'm still looking forward to going to Alaska. Canada still has us shut down to travel.

Jeep Wrangler
Per usual the item was shipped fast and secure from etrailer.com. The information, support and videos, etrailers, provides were of great help in me making the decision to purchase the Patriot brake controller. I was looking at used units from various manufacturers, but after weighing cost, warranty after purchase support new was the way to go and etrailer was the place to buy.
It is as simple to set up as indicated. Installation is quick and easy in our J/K Wrangler, so quick I think I am forgetting to do something. The remote control located in the RV is simple and straight forward to operate. Running the break away wire was straight forward and easy to accomplish.
I have only use the Patriot on a few short trips, so far, and worked fine. Have a couple of longer trips coming up so will try and update later this fall.

System still works flawlessly, no problems to report. Very happy with the purchase hope to get many more years of service from the system. Thanks for checking.

Haven't used it yet but order was on time and very well informed on delivery date. Looks like I'll need to build something so it doesn't hit my release lever on the front of my Jeep Wrangler. I used the leveling legs and played with back of the unit but it still would release the seat and move the seat back. Not a big problem. I think the unit will work fine when I've been able to solve that issue.

I talked to Nicole T. And ordered 4 large towing items, she took the order and helped me with the wiring harness I needed, zI received a email that all items were packed and shipped that day. All items in 3 separate boxes came at the same time.. I have ordered several things for my car hauler trailer also. And every time etrailer.com has been the greatest..

Very good service and customer assist. Problem with device though, factory warranty seal broken, of which Blue Ox is taking care of without issues. Both are great companies.

We bought the Blue Ox Patriot Braking System from etrailer based on their reviews and their reputation of standing behind their products and being available for questions. We also bought the Blue Ox Tow Bar and Base Plate which I installed myself on our 2016 Fiat Pop. It is such a small and light car that we could probably tow it in most states without a braking system, but we didn't want to take a chance. Better safe than sorry. The system works great. Fortunately, I did not have any issues with the tow bar install except for drilling two holes through the bumper area, however that was my fault (dull bit). etrailer is E-excellent!

installed the Patriot2 in the edge this morning for a test run around the block. I rode in the edge in the passenger seat. Other than a weird feeling of riding in a car behind the towing vehicle. The system worked great and was really easy to setup.

We use the Blue Ox Patriot II for towing a Jeep with our Winnebago. So far, everything works great. Last fall we towed the jeep from NC to Yellowstone with several other stops along the way. We have also used it while towing for weekend trips. The Blue Ox was purchased for ease of use and for being able to transfer from one vehicle to another without having to rewire the vehicle. It only takes a few minutes to install and it gives you piece of mind, especially in bad weather, that your towed vehicle is stopping without pushing or trying to pass your RV.

2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee
This is a great kit . I installed it on my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. My wife and I installed the Break a way after removing the Front Bumper Cover . We only had to drill one hole in the Bumper Reinforcement and the aligned the Bumper Cover up the trim the Lower Grill to allow Clearance for the Break a way unit. This is the hardest part of hole set up. The unit itself is basically plug n play and worked great !

I stopped using it. The 12v power plugs in my 201 Subaru Forester require the ignition to be in the ACC position. On the first trip (a year ago), the Subaru battery ran down on the first two days. It seemed to work and I might consider using it again if I could find a way to supply power from my tow vehicle. I've been towing with my van for over 20000 miles without it and not had an issue. I didn't bother to install the breakaway cable because I was in a hurry, but otherwise, it wasn't difficult to install and set up. You have to clip it to the brake pedal and move the driver seat forward to hold it in position so you have to get on your knees to put it in. It requires that you press the button on the remote while you are braking to apply brakes to the towed vehicle which requires some getting used to. According to AAA trailer brakes are not required below 4500 pounds and the weight of my Subaru is 1000 pounds below that. It did a pretty good job of assisting the brakes on the tow vehicle when the battery in the Subaru had power. I'm giving it 2 stars because it seems like it would work for some applications, but not in mine. It seems like a quick and simple plug and play solution to braking, but I'd consider other more elegant solutions. When not towing it needs to be stored somewhere and in out small vehicle, that is difficult.

Just completed installation of Patriot Brake and Blue Ox tow bar to 2017 Chevrolet Traverse. All works like advertised. Patriot Brake setup is easy with remote. Found I had to change force from default of 6 to max of 9 to feel adequate braking from Patriot on Chevrolet Traverse.

I have used this many times on trips that were over one thousand miles. Other than having it replaced under warranty, it has worked great.
On the first long trip when I was setting up for the return, the unit would just click after applying power.
After contacting customer service, they quickly sent a replacement. I couldn’t have asked for better support.
I have been using the replacement now and have had no issues.

We put it in our jeep today and took it for a test drive (20miles/stop/start) It worked great. Our only concern was that it might slide around on the floor. Seems not to be a problem so far. After we use it more we will update this report.

2012 Jeep Patriot
After reviewing the E-trailer video for installing; we put the Patriot BRk2012 in place.
First powered up without connecting the power cord and verified we got the low battery alarm. Powered back off, connected the power plug to a hot 12 volt outlet and turned back on. The unit went through it's start and test procedure. It seems to be fairly secure.
The rest of the installation is straight forward. Because we are adding a power source from the motor home time is a little longer to install. Unlike the video the brake disconnect wiring was run in split tubing.
The remote unit has not been installed or tested as of this time.
Gave 4 stores because there is no way to tell if the internal battery is charged or even charging.

Works well but if you get an error it requires you to pull over and power off and back on the unit to reset. This can be set by bumpy roads or step down hills even when no braking, also get braking action sometimes when the MH down shifts. Need to be able to reset errors from the remote unit. Also need a way to increase the time before you get braking time out error. It worked well other wise for the 5k miles we did this summer and the 4k miles last winter.

Thanks for your reply, I have reached out to my contact at Blue Ox regarding the issues that you are having with your braking system. He explained that if you have the small screw-in style of feet on the base of the the braking system unit those can be removed, and this will allow the Patriot II to sit more level and should reduce the need to reset as frequently. In this case the braking system sit directly on the floor of the towed vehicle.

This is very easy to install and works just as it should. The set up in the 2019 Honda Fit took some extra work though. The floor pan on the driver's side is an odd shape and does not allow for an easy placement of the device. I used a piece of 4 x 4 lumber under the front of the machine so it would match the height of the back. This leaves almost no space between the top front of the machine housing. Once I got this sorted out, everything worked just fine. Set up and adjustment could not be any easier. Due to a problem not related to the breaking system, I let the battery in the towed run low and discovered another bit of important info. With the towed battery almost dead, the machine still gave the normal light signals on the unit. It would not respond to the set up button on the machine and there was no visible indication of why. I figured it out on my own after some trouble shooting. Overall, I am happy with the wireless feature the most.

There is one key difference between the Blue Ox Patriot 2 Portable Braking System part # BRK2016 and the Blue Ox Patriot 3 Portable Braking System part # BRK2019. The difference is an extra safety measure built into the Patriot 3. The Patriot 3 has new software that will alert you of any unwanted pressure on the brake pedal. For example, if the seat was positioned too far forward and put pressure on the brake pedal without you knowing the Patriot 3 would alert you to this whereas the Patriot... view full answer...
When it comes to choosing between the Blue Ox Patriot II # BRK2016 and the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524, these systems are extremely similar in their setup and functionality. Since the plug and go portable supplemental braking systems like Blue Ox Patriot II Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System - Proportional # BRK2016 require power from the Jeep's vehicle battery then there is a possibility that after flat towing for long periods of time without pulling over to start the engine that the battery could die. Because the Blue Ox Patriot II Portable Braking System # BRK2016 draws power from the Jeep's battery while in use, it is recommended to add a charge line kit like the Roadmaster # RM-156-25 to your setup. Other than reliability which I'll get to in a minute, the other important factor in choosing a supplemental braking system would be how long you're planning on keeping the vehicle.

The effects of not using a supplemental braking system will be applied to the tow vehicle rather than the toad. The tow vehicle will be responsible for stopping more weight than what it was deigned for, therefore the vehicle (although small) can push the tow vehicle during a stop which increases your braking distance. In addition to the safety risk, a supplemental braking system is required by law in most states so you can also face legal troubles as well by not using one.
