Video Transcript for Powerbuilt Tools - Grease and Lubricants - ALL940798 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number ALL940798. This is the Powerbuilt Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Grease Gun. The heavy duty aluminium anodized canister, that's going to be this portion here, it's going to make the unit very light weight as well as rust-resistant. It's going to have the rubber grip for better operation. Its going to include a 12 inch flex hose with a no-kink coil spring for easy access to your grease fittings, really gives you the flexibility that you need. It's going to include a 5 and a half inch steel extension. Now when loading up the canister, you're going to have three options.

You can suction fill, you can hand pack, or you can use a 14 ounce cartridge. The included instructions are going to walk you through each process individually so if you've never done a suction fill process, it'll walk you through the steps that you need to know in order to do that, or hand packing or using a 14 ounce cartridge. We're going to have the pistol grip design. Now this is going to have the rubber-coated handle for better grip and leverage. Allows you to get into some tight spaces and work upright. Here at the top, you're going to have your air-release valve, that's going to relieve any air from within the canister, and you're going to have your load-fitting. We're going to go ahead and take a look at the plunger pin and the canister's internal components.

Now right here, you're going to have the plunger pin handle and then you're going to have the plunger pin release lever. This cap simply just un-threads off the end of the canister. Going to to remove this. This is going to to be our plunger pin, it's got a nice heavy duty spring on there and it's got a, this is a grease resistant rubber plug here at the end. Provides a nice tight seal inside the canister.

Again, it's a nice heavy duty construction. Again, this is going to be professional grade. Very simple operation, light weight, and it's really going to assist in getting the job done. That's going to do it for our review of part number ALL940798. This is the Powerbuilt Heavy Duty Pistol Grip Grease Gun.

Used this on my car trailer and found it pretty easy to use. It seems to be a nice quality device at a good price. My sole complaint would be that the coupler is tough to remove from the zerk fittings. Pulling on it pulls the spring off of it that is meant to prevent the fill hose from getting kinked or pinched, so I had to keep pushing the spring back into place every time I removed it from a hub. Also, the plastic cap doesn't fit tight on the coupler, so it pops off rather than stay on. However, those are relatively minor issues in regards to the rest of it and its operation. Having used cartridges with this, I'm thinking I'd rather hand pack it from now on as the cartridges seem to leave about an inch or two of grease in the cartridge when it stops pushing out. 371868

Comments

Waiting for Spring to settle in here in the Northeast, so I havent gotten to do some maintenance on my trailers yet, but I was relatively pleased with this grease gun except for the noted minor annoyances.

Grease cartridge was broken and not able to use with grease gun. There were grease all over the tire and box. Tires look great and can't wait to try them out. We are going to the river next week and will try out our new tires but now we have to find a place out here to buy another grease cartridge. Called and etrailer will be sending a new cartridge in 5-7 days but not sure that it will be here before we go on our trip. 397934

  • How to Grease the Bearings on My Trailer
  • Greasing the bearings is actually a fairly easy process. It does take a little bit of time to complete, but after you are done you won't have to worry about greasing the bearings again for a few years. I do have some recommendations to help make this process a bit easier for you. When it comes to packing the bearings with grease you do have a few different options. You can either do it by hand or you can use a grease packer. Although doing it by hand is definitely the most cost efficient...

  • Size of Grease Gun Zerk Fitting on Dexter EZ-Lube Spindle
  • Dexter trailer axle spindles like # R20384EZ and many other trailer components that require periodic lubrication, such as 5th wheel hitches, pin boxes and landing gear, use a standard 1/4-inch grease zerk fitting. These work with a grease gun such as # ALL940798.

  • How Much Grease Should be Added to the Bearing Buddy Bearings
  • In order to add grease to a bearing buddy such as the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors part # BB1980A you will need a grease gun like part # ALL940798 and the appropriate bearing grease like part # L10320. Once you have obtained both the grease gun and grease you can fill the bearing buddy. An automatic pressure-relief feature is built into the Bearing Buddy. When the device is full, grease will seep around the edges of the piston and into the barrel. This prevents overfilling that...

Bearing Buddy grease caps are made both with and without threads so you'll want to check your hub bore to see if it is threaded or not. Click on the appropriate type on the page. • Safe Grease Gun Pressure for Filling Hubs with Grease on EZ Lube Spindles
  • Care should be taken when loading grease into a hub that is installed on an EZ-Lube spindle. It is very easy to over-fill the hub and apply too much pressure and blow out the grease seals. Even the double-lip seals like # 34823 used with EZ-Lube hubs can be blown out from excess grease pressure. The standard grease guns we offer top out at a maximum pressure of 7000-psi, but many are rated for lower pressure, such as # ALL940798 (4500-psi) and # L30132-11399 (3600-psi). That said, we...

  • How to Measure Hubs to Select Correct Bearing Buddy Grease Cap
  • The correct Bearing Buddy for your trailer depends on the inner bore of your hubs. Thank you for the axle reference information but this tell us other things (axle length of 89-inches and spring seat spacing of 74-inches) but not which hubs you have on your spindles. The linked page displays all Bearing Buddy grease caps which are made in sizes to fit hub bores from as small as 1.781-inches, part # BB1781SS, up to 2.717-inches, part # BB2717SS. • How to Select Bearing Buddy for Trailer Using L68111 Inner Bearing
  • Part # L68111 refers to a race that matches up with bearing # L68149. The inner grease seal that fits with these parts is # RG06-050, which is a pair of double-lip grease seals. These seals have an outer diameter of 2.565-inches (that fits within the hub bore) and an inner diameter of 1.719-inches (that fits on the spindle). A common dimension is 1.980-inches and in this size you can choose an item like the non-threaded stainless-steel # BB1980A-SS. If you do use Bearing Buddies you'll...

  • What Size Grease Zerk Fitting is on a Trailer with EZ Lube Spindles
  • You should have a standard 1/4" grease zerk fitting on your EZ Lube spindles. The 1/4" zerk is a fairly common size so you should be able to easily acquire one. We actually have the Powerbuilt Pistol Grip Grease Gun # ALL940798 which would be perfect for your application. Please note that you need to use the same type of grease that is currently being used on your spindles. Different types of grease don't mix well and will actually cause damage to the spindle. It will work with E-Z Lube grease zerk fittings such as those found on trailer spindles and on Bearing Buddy grease caps like # BB1980A-SS. If you are looking for a grease gun and grease specifically for lubricating your enclosed trailer's tandem axle bearings this general-purpose grease will be fine. • Bearing Kit for Snowmobile Trailer with L44649 Inner and Outer Bearings
  • It sounds like the bearing you pulled is actually an L44649 which is the inner and outer for 84 spindles which are straight spindles. These are usually found on lower capacity trailers so it makes sense on a snowmobile trailer. For a bearing kit I recommend # BK1-150 because it comes with both bearings, a seal, cotter pin, and EZ lube spindle washer. You may not need all of the parts but you never know! Since packing bearings on the side of the road would totally suck, why not make it...

  • Hub and drum assembly # AKHD-545-35-K does not come preassembled and greased. You would have to manually grease the bearings and assemble it. To make this easier there are greasing tools you could use such as # L70025 with a standard grease gun such as # ALL940798.

  • Replacement Bearings and Hubs for Hudson Tandem Trailer

  • Replacement Idler Hub for Older Trailer with 0.99-Inch Spindle Diameter
  • A replacement hub for your older trailer must use the same bearing set as the original hub. This ensures the hub will fit properly on your spindles. The hub kit you referenced, part # AKIHUB-440-2-1K, uses bearing # L44643 as its inner and outer bearing. This bearing's inner diameter, which fits over the spindle shaft, measures 1.00-inches so it will fit your 0.99-inch spindles as long as they are straight, not tapered. Another kit that will work is part # AKIHUB-440-2-1K which uses the...
