Using a Bottle Jack

Begin using the bottle jack by placing it on solid, level ground in a vertical position under the vehicle or object you wish to lift. Determine the best lifting point to support the jack and line up the piston ram underneath it. Once everything is lined up correctly, turn the lever switch at the base of the piston clockwise to allow you to move the piston up and down. After you have the vehicle or object lifted to the desired height the jack will automatically lock into place. To unlock the jack, simply turn the lever at the base of the piston counterclockwise and the hydraulics will slowly move in a downward motion.

Video Transcript for Powerbuilt Tools - Vehicle Tools - ALL640407 Review

Today we are going to be taking a look at part #ALL640407. This is the Powerbuilt Bottle Jack. It's going to have the storage and carrying case that's included. It's going to feature a 6-ton capacity. The lift range on this jack is labelled right here on the front that's going to state that it has a lift range from 7 7/8 of an inch to 15 1/2 inches. It's going to have the heavy duty cast iron base for strength and stability.

The jack features a nice powder coat finish which is going to protect it from rust and corrosion. Let's take a measurement of the base going this direction from outer edge to outer edge. It's going to give us a measurement of about 4 3/4 of an inch. If we take a measurement of the base going this direction, that's going to give us a measurement of about 4 1/2 inches. It's also going to feature the forged steel saddle and cast handle socket for added strength and durability. This right here is going to be our pin-style release valve for easy operation. It's going to feature the extension screw.

That's going to provide that added lift height. That added lift height is included in the max lift, which would be 15 1/2 inches. If we take a measurement of the diameter here at the top, that's going to give us a measurement of 1 1/4". It's got a nice cross texture design on it so it's going to add a nice, secure grip. Very easy operation. Before use, you want to make sure that the release valve is closed.

That would be turning it all the way clockwise here on one side of the handle. It's got the indentions that fit around there so you can operate it that way. We'll want to make sure that is closed. We can take our lift handle and place it in the pump socket right here. We can bump that up and down, and that's going to raise the jack.

We can raise the vehicle to the desired height. Once you get it up in the air, you'll definitely want to put some jack stands in place to support the vehicle. When we're ready to lower it, we'll take the release valve and we'll turn that counterclockwise just a little bit. As long as there's some weight on the top here, it'll depress all the way down. We'll go ahead and close that back up. When storing the jack, you want to do so with the jack in the fully lowered position. It's going to prevent critical areas from excessive corrosion and exposure. The jack goes into this portion here. We can take our handle, that's going to snap into the hold right here. We can close up our case. Now it's ready to be stored in an out of the way area. That way it's always on hand when we need it. That's going to do it for our review of part #ALL640407. This is the Powerbuilt Bottle Jack with the case and a 6-ton capacity. .

I received bottle jack and everything worked perfectly. I purchased it to use for our travel trailer to change a tire. Our trailer weighs approximately 8,000 lbs. The jack allowed me to change my tire without any problems. 307480

Good quality for price. 1 bolt missing. A couple of galvanized bolts where stainless should have been. Had to reset bunks for my boat but that's common when buying trailers. Tires, wheels, brakes, wiring all good. Included delivery to NE Florida. Big + for that. 273244

  • Alternative to Using Scissor Jacks to Lift a Truck to Change a Tire
  • Scissor jacks such as # UF48-979031 aren't designed to lift wheels off of the ground but just to provide support on trailers or RVs to limit side to side movement. What I recommend is a bottle jack such as # ALL640407 which costs less and is rated for much more weight. It has a lift range of 7-7/8" to 15-1/2". Need more lift? Bottle jack # ALL620471 has a lift range of 11" to 21".

  • Bottle Jack and Safety Stands for Use During Trailer Maintenance
  • A bottle jack like the 6-ton Powerbuilt # ALL640407 is the right type of jack to use for changing and rotating tires and other trailer maintenance work. But using wood blocks will reduce the stability of the jack and affect the safety of that process. Any trailer work is best done with wheels chocked on both sides. We offer rubber wheel chock products like # MT70073 and # MT70072 to steady the trailer while you work on it. If you like the Powerbuilt jack for its size you can use it...

  • Trailer Jack to Lift Horse Trailer to Change Tire
  • We have a couple of options that you might like. First, you could use what is called a farm jack, # RP7033400. This is a stand alone jack meaning it does not get attached to the trailer. But farm jacks have many uses and will work well to help lift the trailer to change a tire. A similar device that is more compact is a bottle jack, # ALL640407. This jack is easier to store since it is smaller than a farm jack but is still very versatile. And for a bonus third option, if the trailer...

  • Can Scissor Jacks be Used to Lift an RV 1 Foot Off the Ground
  • Scissor jacks such as # JSC-30-IND are not meant to lift up vehicle or trailer so I do not recommend them for this application. What I recommend is to use leveling blocks such as # CAM44515 for a 10-pack. You can drive right up onto these blocks though it may be difficult to get it up to a foot tall without using a bunch of them stacked like a pyramid. Another option is to use a bottle jack such as # ALL640407 to lift the vehicle and then use the blocks or jack stands to hold the...

  • Recommended Jack to Change Tires on a Trailer
  • Scissor jacks for trailers or RVs such as # TJSC-24 are not meant to lift the trailer/RV off the ground. They are meant as support only. What I recommend is a bottle jack such as # ALL640407. This is a 6-ton jack that has a lift range of 7-7/8 inches to 15-1/2 inches. Need more lift? Bottle jack # ALL620471 is rated for 6,000 pounds and 21 inches of lift. The great thing about bottle jacks is they are compact, easy to store, and can also be used on vehicles should the need arise.

  • Manual Operation of Damaged Lippert Auto Leveling Landing Gear System
  • If your 2015 Heartland Road Warrior 5th wheel is sitting too low to allow you to couple it to your 5th wheel hitch you can try operating your landing gear manually with the hand crank tool that should have been supplied. Even if the powered landing gear is not working manual operation should still be possible since all powered jacks and landing gear include this feature for cases where electrical power is lost. Look for a plastic cap on the top of the jack's gearbox housing, as shown in...

  • Can Leveling Jack be Used to Lift Wheels off the Ground?
  • A leveling jack such as # JSC-24 is not designed to lift your trailer off the ground, it is only meant to provide support to your camper. To change a tire on your trailer you would want to use a bottle jack such as # ALL640407. I've added links to video reviews of each product for you to take a look at.

  • 2011 Jack to Lift 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for Changing Tires
  • I may have a solution for you, however scissor jacks like the Stromberg Carlson # JSC-24 that you referenced are not designed to lift wheels off the ground but simply to provide support on trailers or RVs. They are just not built to support the full weight of a vehicle or actually lift it from its stock height. A better solution will be with a bottle jack like the Powerbuilt # ALL640407. This jack features plenty of capacity (12,000 pounds) and has a lift range of 7-7/8 inches to 15-1/2...

  • Will One Tire be Off the Ground on the Same Side the Anderson Rapid Jack is Used
  • Trailers tend not to have a suspension that travels 8 or more inches, which is the amount of lift provided by the Rapid Jack # AM3620. If the axles are far enough apart or the ground is not level it could be an issue though. That's why its tough to beat a good ol' bottle jack such as # ALL640407.

  • Can Ultra-Fab Power Twin Stabilizer Jack Level a Trailer and Lift the Tires Off the Ground
  • Ultra-Fab stabilizer # UF39-941705 can be used to both stabilize and level trailer. But it is not designed to lift the trailer tires off of the ground. You would need to use a jack for that. I like bottle jacks such as # ALL640407 because they are compact and easy to store. This one is rated for 6 tons so that is more than enough to lift one side of the trailer to change a tire.

  • Recommended Jack for Trailer to Change a Flat Tire
  • For a jack to use in an emergency to change a flat tire I recommend using the Powerbuilt Bottle Jack # ALL640407. This jack has a lift range of 7-7/8" to 15-1/2" and a 6-ton capacity which is more than enough for your camper trailer; it also comes with a handy storage and carrying case. • Can Trailer Scissor Jack be Used to Change Trailer Spare
  • We are aware that in emergency situations people will use their scissor jack like part # LC285325 as a way to jack up the rear of their trailer. But this is not what they are intended to do so I would recommend you not do this. They are not designed for the full weight of a trailer. Instead I would recommend you use something like the part # EZ-JACK for a tandem trailer which will give you an easy way to jack up the trailer to change the spare. You would need to roll up your trailer...

  • Jack Recommendation for Changing Spare of 1998 Dodge Camper Van 3500
  • Leveling jacks like what you referenced are not designed for suspending a vehicle with a wheel off the ground for a spare tire change. Instead what you'd want is a bottle jack like the part # ALL640407 which is designed for this type of scenario. This has a 6 ton capacity so it would have more than enough capacity for what you have.

  • Jack Solution for Raising Tandem Axle Trailer to Change Flat Tire
  • The BlayLock # EZ-JACK is designed to allow you to roll the good axle up onto and it will elevate the axle with a blown tire off the ground. Or you could use a standard bottle jack like the # ALL640407 and you'd be able to raise the bad axle off the ground to change it.

  • Can Blaylock EZ Jack and Wheel Chock Harm Trailer Tires or Suspension
  • None of our experience with wheel chocks like the Blaylock EZ Jack and Wheel Chock # EZ-Jack suggests that they present any risk of damage to a trailer tire or suspension. I suppose if someone drove up on the EZ-Jack and did not have the tire centered properly this would place more weight on only a part of the tire tread; naturally this would not be good but unless the tire already had an issue (incorrect inflation, excessive tread wear, etc) there should not be any negative results. • Can Stabilizer Jacks be Used to Lift and Support Trailer?
  • Stabilizer jacks are not designed to lift and support trailers for something like taking the wheels off; they are meant to simply level and stabilize by handling a portion of the trailer's weight. I would not be able to recommend using stabilizer jacks to keep a trailer up. A better option would be a bottle jack such as the Powerbuilt # ALL640407 to remove tires. I've added links to a pair of video reviews of this jack for you to take a look at.

  • Can EZ-Jack be Used on a Triple Axle Trailer
  • I spoke with my contact at EZ-Jack and he says that to use the # EZ-Jack on a triple axle trailer you will need to turn the curve up, opposite the wheel, and drive up on the jack and you will be able to change the tires. Other wise a floor jack and jack stands are the safest way to service trailer axles. We have the 6 ton bottle jack from Powerbuilt part # ALL640407 which would work well too.
