Video Transcript for Mechanics Products Performance Tool 3/8 inch Drive Ratchet Review

Today we'll be taking a look at the Mechanic's Products 3/8 inch drive ratchet, part number PT20104. This is also available with a 3/4 inch socket, as a kit with part number PT20104-38524, or with a 7/8 socket, part number PT20104-38528. The Mechanic's Products ratchet and sockets allow you to tighten down anti-rattle bolts for cargo carriers or bike racks, as well as nuts and bolts on other projects. To loosen bolts, we would just flip the switch on the back and then we can loosen up any bolts that we need to. The 3/8 inch DR ratchet is constructed of a durable forged steel with a comfortable rubber grip handle at the end. The 3/4 and the 7/8 socket are 12 point sockets, so they can grip multiple different types of bolts.

Both sockets are made from a chrome vanadium alloy steel construction for strength and durability and the openings are designed to reduce fastener rounding. That's going to be our completed look at the Mechanic's Products 3/8 inch drive ratchet and socket kits.

Purchased this so I could keep it in my bike bag. The socket is ok. The ratchet is junk. The cost of returning it not worth it or driving 38 miles to exchange. Great idea if it was of better quality. 647731

Works GREAT on my bike rack! Inexpensive, decent quality and good service. Just exactly what I needed for my twice a year job of putting on and taking off the bike rack. 440317

  • Bike Rack Recommendation for Beach Cruiser on 2017 GMC Sierra
  • To carry your beach cruiser, a men's 3G Newport, with your 2017 GMC Sierra 1500, I highly recommend checking out the Yakima HoldUp EVO # Y02479. The HoldUp EVO fits 2" hitches and can carry bikes with tires that are up to 5" wide with wheel diameters between 20" and 29" and up to 50 lbs. This is a wheel-mount rack that has many of what I like to call quality-of-life features, including simple installation in your hitch with the turn of the anti-rattle knob. It includes a foot lever that...

  • Distance from Center of Hitch Pin Hole to Bar of Thule Hitching Post Pro
  • The Thule Helium Aero 3-Bike Rack TH9043 makes an awful nice gift but you are correct that there is a short distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the locking knob - just 4-1/2". The Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR you asked about does not have that knob and is 13-1/2" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright on the rack. The trade off is that it does tighten into the hitch much differently. Instead of turning a knob it has an anti-rattle bolt, which...

  • Is Threaded Hitch Bolt or Hitch Pin Better for Hanging-Style 4-Bike Rack
  • A hitch pin is absolutely a better option than a threaded hitch bolt for a bike rack because it is much easier to use and does not have any comparative drawbacks. A 4-bike hanging-style rack such as the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR is a very high-quality rack but because of its threaded hitch pin you would also need to carry around the Ratchet with 3/4" Socket for Anti-Rattle Hitch Bolts # PT20104-38524 to tighten it down. A similar bike rack, the Yakima RidgeBack 4 Bike Rack #...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch to use Thule Bike Rack on 2017 Toyota Camry
  • The hitches available for your 2017 Toyota Camry, the Curt # C12107 and Draw-Tite # 36540 are extremely similar and it would be difficult to say that one would be "better" than the other for your Thule Roadway # TH912XTR. The most noticeable difference is that the Curt hitch will require you to use stabilizing straps # 18050 when using your bike rack in order to maintain the warranty. The Draw-Tite # 36540 does not have the same requirement so I recommend going with that option over...

  • What Size Wrench or Socket for Bolt Head of 8' Cable Lock and Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock # SA984
  • I spoke with my contact at Saris and she told me that the size socket/wrench needed for the bolt on the # SA984 that you referenced would be a 19 mm or a 3/4 inch. So the wrench part # PT20104-38524 that you referenced would work with it.

  • Replacement Threaded Screw and Pin for Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR
  • If you are needing the Flat Cap Screw that holds the adapter on the shank of the Thule Hitching Post Pro # TH934XTR, then you are needing part # 853-5787-02. If what you are needing is the replacement threaded pin for the Hitching Post Pro then you will need part # 853-5917. You can use the Ratchet with 3/4 inch Socket # PT20104-38524 to tighten the anti-rattle bolt down. This is a convenient thing to just keep in your rear cargo area so you don't have to go hunt down a wrench or...

  • What Size Wrench/Socket is Needed to Tighten Thule Hitch Pin Bolt

  • Replacement Key Recommendation for Thule Bike Rack with Lock Core N012

  • Easiest Tool Recommendation for Installing Hitch Pin of Thule Hitching Post Pro
  • The Thule Hitching Post Pro Bike Rack part # TH934XTR that you referenced does use a hitch pin bolt that will require either using the included wrench to install or possibly a socket and ratchet. The socket and ratchet would probably be the easiest route to go. We have a socket and ratchet together as part # PT20104-38524 if you wanted to go that route.

  • Recommendation for a 4-Bike Rack for a 2007 Hyundai Tucson
  • For all of your alternative framed bikes, I recommend going with a platform style rack like the Saris Freedom # SA4414B. This will be a great rack for you and all your passengers! If your Electra's have fat bike tires you can change out the wheel cradles for fat bike wheel cradles # SA4419. The neat thing about the Freedom is the way the cradles pivot and slide up and down the central masts. This allows the rack to grab your bike's tube at the perfect angle. To secure your bikes to your...
