The Full-Metal JackRabbit retractable tonneau cover protects your cargo and truck bed from the elements. The durable cover is constructed of heavy-duty aluminum panels with weather-resistant materials that help keep dirt and water out of your bed. The cover locks every 12" along the rails, and it retracts easily with the turn of handle.

Retractable Cover with Built-In Pull Strap

Handle on key latch opens cover

The Full-Metal JackRabbit retracts with the turn of a handle. The handle - located on the key latch at the tailgate end of the cover - activates a heavy-duty tension spring. This spring automatically retracts the cover into the canister at the bulkhead of your truck bed. A built-in pull strap helps you extend the cover over your bed. As you pull, the tonneau cover will engage the side rails at 12" intervals.

Hauling flexibility for partial loads

This feature enables you to carry tall or long items that overlap your tailgate while still covering cargo, such as a toolbox, stored closer to the bulkhead of the truck.

A hook-and-loop fastener strip is included to secure the pull strap up and off of your bed floor. You can also use the rear plate of the tonneau cover to pull it closed.

Angled Canister

Angled Canister

The cover retracts into a compact, angled canister located at the front of your truck bed. This canister protects the retracted cover from the elements, and with the cover stored in the canister you'll have unrestricted visibility out of your rear window. The angled design of the canister also allows for maximum clearance for your tools and cargo so there is no need to remove the cover to haul cargo.

Water Management System

The Full-Metal JackRabbit rails feature a water management system that channels excess water into the canister. This prevents water from getting into your bed or freezing in your tonneau cover rails during cold temperatures. Drain tubes attached to the bottom of the canister remove water through the OE drain holes in the floor of your truck bed.

Flush-Mount Design

Low profile tonneau cover

The Full-Metal JackRabbit side rails mount level with your truck bed rails for a flush appearance. This flush-mount design is aerodynamic to reduce wind drag, and it helps to improve gas mileage when the cover is closed.

Cover allows for fifth wheel towing

Even with the flush-mount design, the cover fits over most fifth-wheel trailer hitches. Note: The highest point of the fifth-wheel hitch must be at least 2" below the bed rails.

Heavy-Duty Construction

All aluminum construction

The cover and rails are constructed of heavy-gauge extruded aluminum with a black powder coat finish. A silicon weather hinge creates a tight seal between each panel to prevent water and dirt from entering the truck bed. A large seal at the rear of the bed closes between the cover and tailgate to create a barrier to prevent water from entering the truck bed.

Security

The Full-Metal Jackrabbit provides excellent protection for your cargo when used in conjunction with a closed and locked tailgate. The heavy-gauge aluminum panels are better at preventing theft when compared with soft covers that can be cut or punctured with a knife.

No-Drill Installation

To install the cover, set the canister in your truck bed and support it with a box or other sturdy object. Slide the cover side rails into the canister until they are fully seated in the rail grips while also threading the cover into the channels in the rails. Secure the rails to the canister with bolts and washers.

Secure the rails to your truck bed side rails using 2 clamps per side. Slide the clamp onto the rail, flip the pivot arm up so it is under the bed rail lip, and tighten the clamp in place. Shims are included for trucks with tapered beds.

Kickstand for Pace Edwards cover

Each clamp at the tailgate end of the rails has a supplemental kickstand to help level the rails and prevent overtightening during installation. To install the kickstand, simply slide it into the grip handle at the bottom of the clamp. Rotate the kickstand so the foot rests squarely against the side wall of the truck bed, and tighten in place.

Mount the top cover plate to the canister with the included hardware. Attach the drain tubes to the canister and route each tube out of the OEM drain holes in the floor of your bed.

To hold the pull strap off the floor of your truck bed, apply the adhesive hook-and-loop fastener strip onto the underside of a rail at your desired location.

Video Transcript for Mount: Pace Edwards Full-Metal JackRabbit Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover on a 2022 Toyota Tacoma

Hi, I'm Matt, with etrailer. If you're looking for a tonneau cover for the back of your 2022 Toyota Tacoma, and you want something that's gonna give you more of a sleek design on the back, and you just want some extra protection for your truck, then the Leer Pace Edwards Full-Metal JackRabbit tonneau cover's gonna be a great option for you. So let's check it out. A tonneau cover is gonna give you a lot of protection from the elements, so it's gonna prevent a lot of rain from getting in the back of your bed, rusting up your tools. And it's also gonna prevent any snow buildup from getting in your bed, because in those colder winter months it can be a pain if you have to clear out your bed. And it's also gonna be great, because we have a hard tonneau cover, and what that's gonna give us is more security.

So if someone we inchesre to come by, and let's say you had a soft, roll-up tonneau cover, they could just come over here and cut that open and grab whatever they needed. With this, you don't have to worry about this, because it's gonna be very durable. And this is gonna be a canister-style tonneau cover. And what's really nice about that is it's very simple to use, and with a lot of them, typically you do have to open up your tailgate, so you pull a lever. This one we don't have to do that.

We're just gonna have this lock core at the top, use your included keys to unlock that, and then it'll pull into itself. So some other options out there would be a folding tonneau cover, but the downside to that is you actually have to manually fold it yourself, and they can get a little hefty too. This one you don't have to worry about lifting up anything heavy. You just turn your key and it folds up into itself. Another advantage to this canister-style tonneau cover, is gonna be how low profile it is.

It really doesn't stick up a whole lot over our bed, maybe half an inch at the very most, so you're probably not really gonna notice it back here as you drive. Now when you are loading things in here, you might notice it, because it is gonna take up some of your bed space. So if I actually measure from the back of our bed and get that exact measurement, that's gonna stick out by 14 inches. So you're gonna lose out on that space. Now, you're not completely losing out on that space, because we still have anything underneath here.

So if I measure from the bottom of our bed to the bottom of the tonneau cover, that's gonna sit at about 11 inches, which is not too bad. You can put any smaller items under there, anything like some small totes. Now if you are looking for a solution for that, then I would recommend checking up those folding tonneau covers, 'cause a lot of them actually can fold up all the way to the back of your cab. The only downside to that though is it's gonna block your vision in this back window. Now this tonneau cover is gonna be very water resistant, and really at the end of the day, no tonneau cover is completely waterproof. Now with a canister style, though, you will get a spot that's gonna have a lot of water that will enter. It's gonna be right here at the top of this canister. And what happens is when water goes in here and it really stores, they actually include this drain tube. This drain tube is gonna allow for any water that does get caught up in this canister to flow out of your vehicle. Now we didn't install this today, but I'll talk a little bit more about that during the install. But we will have plenty of other spots that will prevent water from entering into your bed. We're gonna have on the very back of the tonneau cover, there's gonna be a weather strip that sits underneath this cover, and even along our rails, so we don't have to worry about anything seeping in from the sides. We're also gonna have this weather strip near the hand assembly of your tonneau cover. And this is gonna be great for keeping any of that water from entering from your tailgate side either. And going a little bit more in depth with these rails, you can see how there's cinched down to our bed. So when you look over here, we're gonna have this clamp assembly. And what I do like about this is it uses our tracks that are on our bed. And this actually makes it a lot easier to really use, 'cause I put on a lot of these, and having this track system does come in handy. And what I also like about it is this is gonna be a drill-free installation, so we don't have to worry about drilling any of these bolts into place. But in my opinion this is a really clean tonneau cover we have today. And I especially do like the finish we have, 'cause what's nice about this finish is since this is more of a glossy finish to the top, if you get into scratches, normally that'd be very noticeable. But we have this textured finish, and that's gonna help keep a lot of those scratches from being noticeable. Now like I said earlier, this is gonna be great to keep any water, snow out from the bed of your truck, and keep anyone from accessing the bed of your truck too. But if you do need full bed access, I do recommend checking out some of the folding tonneau covers, 'cause what's nice about those, is some of them do have the ability to fold up against our cab, so you're gonna get every inch of your bed. But to be honest with you, I think in most cases you're gonna be fine just losing out on a few inches on the back of your bed. As far as the installation process goes too, it's pretty straightforward. Now the trickiest part is gonna be installing these rails onto the tonneau cover, because it's very custom-fit and it's very precise, so it might take you a little bit to figure it out. Now if that does seem a little bit much for you, then I'd recommend checking out our dealer network to find someone else who can install it for you. But at the end of the day, I think this is gonna be fine for most people to try out themselves. If you are curious about that process, just stay tuned and we'll walk you through it. Let's start the installation. I like to lay everything out, so what's gonna help you out a lot is laying out all the parts you're gonna need for the relative sides. Just gonna keep everything a little bit more organized. I'll go over everything you're gonna need once we get to those parts. But what is gonna help us a lot is we're gonna be placing this tonneau cover near our bulk head. You can put a box underneath. We have a tote we're using right now, just to keep it a little bit elevated, and it's just gonna make the process a little bit more simple to follow. Now your instructions recommend doing this in the bed of your truck, but I actually find this next step to be a little bit easier on the ground, and that's gonna be where we attach our rails to the tonneau cover. So the way you're gonna do this is a little bit tricky, 'cause you have to be pretty precise with this. So we're gonna be matching up the channels of our rail with this channel on our tonneau cover. First you wanna make sure you got the right rail, so you're gonna be able to tell if it's the correct one when we make sure we have our squared-off edge nearest to the tonneau cover. And if you look inside, we'll notice we have these channels that are gonna be facing in towards the tonneau cover. That's how you know you're gonna be on the right direction. Now we're gonna line up this hole that's on your rail with this hole that is on our tonneau cover right here. The way we're gonna wanna do this is, if you notice on the section right here, there's this edge to it, you can see a lot more from this point. Each side is flared out. We want those flared-out edges to go into these channels here in the tonneau cover. So I'm just gonna line this up. The best way I found to do this was to put this back edge closest to this plastic section, and then we're gonna grab the hand assembly that's gonna have this rubber piece right here, at the very end of it, and we're gonna try to get that hand assembly in this channel. Now that is a little bit tricky. So what I'm gonna do is probably just try to lift up on this some, try to get it in there, just like that. I'm also gonna try to make sure that this seal doesn't get caught up underneath, 'cause that's gonna be a pain if we have to fix that later on. I'm gonna try to close on top of that. Like I said earlier, this is gonna be a tight fit, but then once you get it flush on here, that's the majority of the battle. Now we just gotta push this forward, have to wiggle it just a bit to do that. And then you notice once we come here to the back, this is gonna be almost like an indicator to let us know we we inchesre all the way in. So this little tab here isn't lined up with that gray section, so we're gonna push it just a tad bit further till we are lined up. If you remember where I pointed at that hole, we're gonna find that hole again. And now we're gonna just use this bolt that press up in there, and thread it through. Now this should already be lined up if we lined up everything correctly in the back. If you are still having issues, you can try to wiggle the rail just a bit. And I do have this propped up with another box, just to make this part a little bit easier for me. I'm just gonna start by hand threading this. Once I can't thread it on anymore, I'm gonna grab a Phillips screwdriver and at this point you might have to lift up on it a bit. That's okay. And we'll tighten this down the rest of the way. And once this is about tightened all the way down, then you're gonna repeat all this on the other side. With both the rails installed, I recommend grabbing another set of hands. So I got Jake here with me today, and now we're just gonna lift this up on the back of our bed, and we're gonna try to keep this closest to the bulkhead. If we need to adjust later on, we'll be able to do that. But right now we're just roughly setting it down. Now you might run into an issue while you're doing this, trying to get it flush against the back of our bed. And that's probably gonna be because of these hooks that we have underneath, or these anchor points. Now what we did when we encountered that, we just lifted above them, pushed it all the way back, let it sit back down, and it slid right past them. Now we can really cinche down our rails through the tonneau cover. And the way we're gonna do that is with our hardware. So on one side we're gonna have some bolts, washers, and nuts. We'll talk a little bit more about that later on. But let's talk about these clamps and how they're gonna work. So there's gonna be an inter clamp that's gonna connect to your track rails on your Tacoma. And then we're gonna have this outer clamp, and they're gonna connect to each other via like this, along with this bracket that's also gonna connect to your rails on your tonneau cover. That's all gonna be connected into one another. And some tools we're gonna need to do this is gonna be this 11 millimeter socket and wrench, and this three millimeter Allen key. So let's check it out. We're gonna start with the track system. We're gonna remove this end cap, put that to the side, grab our inner clamp. We're gonna push this all the way down nearest to the tonneau cover. I'll adjust it later on, 'cause these will have specific spots they're gonna need to sit. And this side's gonna sit closer to the end of your bed, near your tailgate. I'm gonna make sure I put this end cap back on, 'cause I don't wanna forget about that. And then we can move on to the outer clamp. Now to hold those outer clamps on, we're gonna need these brackets. So right now I have bracket A, it's gonna be in this kind of odd shape compared to bracket B. That's how they're gonna look like compared to each other. And when you try to fit this on, it's not gonna fit on if you put it on incorrectly, because these channels are two different sizes that work with these two flanges on the very end of it. So I'm gonna try it one way. This is working, but if I try another way, this doesn't wanna grab on here. So I'll flip it around again. And now I'm gonna push this all the way down and try to line it up to that inner clamp. And now we're gonna grab bracket B. I'll show you what it looks like in the wrong way. It won't grab on there, so I'll flip it around. And this is how it looks like in the right way. And we'll line this up with the rear inner clamp. Now we're gonna grab the outer clamp, and we're gonna line that up, having those two bolts pass right on through. With those through, we're gonna grab this bolt with a lock washer and a regular washer on it, push this through, and try to line this up with that bracket. Now this is gonna be easy to do from your bed, but I'm doing it outside, just to show you guys a little bit better. And now it's connected and I'm just gonna leave it like that, just so we can make our adjustments. And with that in place, we're gonna find that this bracket needs to be four inches away from the end of our track system. So I'm just gonna measure right here, get that distance, and adjust. Once I've done that, I'm gonna do the same thing for the front side closest to our canister. And instead I'm gonna measure six inches from the canister to the end of the clamp. And now we're gonna put this set screw in. That's gonna go in the bottom of bracket A. You're gonna have this secondary hole that sits right outside of the outer clamp. Now you're gonna start just by hand-threading that into place. Once that's started, then we can grab our three millimeter Allen key and tighten it down the rest of the way. We're gonna come over to both clamps now, and we're gonna put on a flat washer, a lock washer, and a nut. This might shift over a little bit. That's okay, we're gonna make our adjustments later on. What I'm doing right now, is just loosely placing this, just hand-tight, just in case we need to make adjustments later, and we're just gonna make sure we repeat that for the rest of them too. Now I was just gonna test everything out to make sure everything's working properly and is properly spaced too. So I'm just gonna open this up. That's looking pretty good. Didn't have any issues. Now I just wanna check if it closes properly as well. We're not running into any issues. The tailgate is shutting good, and if it is, you should be good to go, and then we can tighten everything down the rest of the way. Now when you're tightening this down, I recommend starting with your outer clamp that connects to your bracket up top. And we're gonna do this all the way down to begin with. The reason why I start with this one, is 'cause if you start with the two bolts next to that, what can happen, is this won't be even, and this clamp can actually get caught in these tracks. Once you're done there, you would come beneath it now. I'll probably should just hand-tighten this a little bit more, and then we'll cinche this all the way down too. Once you're done doing this, then you can repeat this for the rest of the clamps. Something else that might help you too, is when you're tightening these bolts here on the side, if you put down some downwards force, it's gonna help keep everything level, just so your tonneau cover doesn't get caught up when you open it up all the way. Now the next few steps we won't be able to do, because we're just doing this as a test fit today. But what you're gonna do next is you're gonna grab this hook and loop strap, and this is gonna have an adhesive side to the back of it. You just peel this plastic bit off, then you'll be able to come over to the bed of your truck, place it on here, and then grab this strap that's in the center of our truck and hook it to it. What's nice about this is you can really place it wherever you want to. I know a lot of people like to put it near their tailgate side, so they can grab that strap a bit easier. The next thing is gonna be this lubricant. You'll just take this out, and you're gonna swipe or put this against your sweep seal and your wear strip. And what that is exactly is gonna be this strip right here and the top of this strip right here. You just wanna lubricate that, just make sure this tonneau cover is a little bit more smooth to operate. And then finally, you're gonna have these drain tubes. These are gonna hook up underneath the title cover from this end, and this other end is gonna go somewhere else on our vehicle. Now the reason why we can't install these today, is because we're just doing this for demonstration purposes, and we would have to drill some holes in the truck bed we have. So if you do do that, then just make sure when you are drilling a hole in here, you check the other side to make sure you're not going through any wires, or you're not going through the front of your cab. Now you'll also notice you do have this foam strip that comes with the kit. This is typically gonna be put near your bulkhead side. As you'll notice, we don't have any rubber coating near our tonneau cover back here, so you could just put this here if you want. Now I'm not gonna be doing that, just 'cause I don't wanna take off that paper coating on the back. And now we're gonna grab the top part of our canister, and this is gonna have two sides to it. So we're gonna have the side with the brushed edge, we want that to be on the tonneau cover side. And then the side with this foam backing, we want that to be on the cab side. So we're just gonna roughly line everything up, push that down, get outta my way, and just place it down. And what we're trying to do is line this up with some additional holes that are on your tonneau cover. Once we have that lined up, we're gonna take this bolt and a Phillips screwdriver, and just thread that into place. Now if that's not threading in for you, or it's not connecting, what you can do is, let me get this out of here, lift up on here. You'll notice this hole underneath actually can slide up and down. Now if you do adjust this, just make sure it's even on the other side. Lower that back onto our cover, go and try to retighten this down. And once that's complete on both sides, we can test our tonneau cover. And to test it out, I just like to pull it in, make sure it moves pretty smoothly. I like the way that felt, and just close it one last time to check our fit. And right now this is looking pretty good. That was just a look at the installation, and some of the features, of the Pace Edwards Full-Metal JackRabbit tonneau cover on the back of our 2022 Toyota Tacoma. I'm Matt. Thanks for watching.
