Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Video Transcript for Westlake Tires and Wheels - Tire Only - LHWL410 Review

Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Westlake ST235/85R16 radial trailer tire. This radial ply tire is great for highway use. It is constructed of double steel belts and plys for a nice long life. We're looking at nylon tread firming belt overlays to help prevent tread separation. It also has the tread wear or TWI indicators. That makes it easy to see the tread depth so that we can always keep a close eye on how well, or how good the tread is that remains on the tire. This is a special trailer tire.

It has a sturdy sidewall design so that it can handle heavy loads. It's created specifically for trailers and not intended for use on other vehicles. Now, this also comes with complementary roadside assistance for two years, so that offers flat tire service that's available 24/7, anywhere in the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico. This unit meets Department of Transportation and FMVSS specifications. Now, when it comes to the rims that it will fit onto, that's a 16 inch by six inch, 16 inch by six and a half inch, and 16 inch by seven inch rim. Tire size, again, it's ST235/85R16.

The section width is 9.3 inches. You'll see there also, just a really nice tread design that this one offers. Then the outer diameter when properly inflated is 31.7 inches. When it comes to the load range, that's a G rating. Ply rating is 14, and the maximum load as a single tire design is 4,400 pounds at 110 psi. For dual tire, that's 3,860 pounds at 110 psi.

This tire does have a speed rating indicated right here. So right here's our tire size, ST235/85R16. Then we have our load index. Right next to that we have the letter L. That's our speed rating, which is 75 miles per hour. That's going to do it for today's look at the Westlake ST235/85R16 radial trailer tire..

15000 miles and no problems with "G" rated Westlakes. They were installed by the OEM when we purchased the 42', 16000lb, 5th Wheel. I have added TPMS and so far, no worries. The reason we ordered (2) new tires, we had a dual leaf spring failure and the tires didn't fail, but both rubbed on the frame and we are replacing them out of caution. I've owned China Bombs on previous 5th Wheels and like many, we suffered miserably the consequences of cheap tires. We started to go with Sailuns instead, but have had such great performance with these, we decided to stay brand loyal. RAH! 620215

Seems like it's a quality tire. Only issue I have that gave me a slight reservation about quality/durability is the extremely obvious seam where the tread was mated end to end to itself during construction. I don't recall ever seeing this on a good quality tire before. 560662

I put 6 of these on me 18k toyhauler. I have driven about 10k miles on them with zero issues. The tread still looks new. They are hard core heavy duty 5ther tires for a budget price. I swear these things weigh twice as much as the load E's they replaced. I will be buying them again when these wear our... which looks to be a long time from now. 590207

Had a blowout on the 2 year old original tires that came on Bullet 248rks so I decided to replace all 4 tires with the Westlake Super ST. Had them mounted by a mechanics at a Mercedes dealership. He was impressed by the quality of the tires and I shouldn’t have any problems with these tires. And they look great also. 667403

Made in China has a connotation of poor quality at best, most of the time junk. These Westlake tires are made in China however to the contrary they are top-quality. Don’t hesitate in using these as replacement! Plus buy them from etrailer.com, for first class service, call and asked for Chris W!! 549042

My last tires from etrailer lasted 3 years of daily use. Although I have yet to put many miles on these I expect excellent results. Lisa D. guided me through the selection process. This Westlake model is a better fit (205) than my previous tire (215) yet offeres the same 8-ply & D load rating. My local stores still think they don’t make radial trailer tires! I can’t recommend etrailer highly enough! 569338

e-trailer was great. The trailer tires I had ordered were on back order, and they took the time to call me to see if another product could be shipped, in case I was in a hurry. Was under no time constraints, so I stayed with my original order, but just having an employee take the initiative, that is client service. They should be promoted...…. like seeing that John 602637

With no local business able to provide an exact replacement, a web search quickly yielded information about etrailer and their quality of service. After ordering, I had the tire in a very short time and I’m back on the road! Great support, and always kept informed that my order had been placed, shipped, and delivered. Me and my family went on a 5000 mile round trip vacation. We encountered a lot of different road conditions without a problem and the tires are still currently being used on the camper. The only hitch I had was a very long lead time from the time of ordering the tire and the delivery. Seems like it was a couple months which was frustrating when I was trying to prepare for this trip. As you can see from the picture Montana mud aint no joke. 610593

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Recommended Taskmaster Provider or Westlake Tires With Load Range G For Horse Trailer
  • Looking at your tires, it looks like the middle tread is a little more worn than the rest of the tire. That suggests that your tires are overheating. It can be from overinflating, axle nut being too tight, brakes needing adjustment because they are too tight, etc. I would have a shop take a look at these things to make sure your trailer is functioning properly. You seem to be funtioning in your load capacity, but stronger tires is the route I would go as well to protect yourself and...

  • Can Westlake 235/80R16 Trailer Tires be Replaced with Westlake 235/85R16 Tires
  • The 235/85R16 size Westlakes, part # LHWL410, are an inch larger in diameter compared to the 235/80R16s part # LHWL401. So you need to make sure there's an extra half inch of clearance between the tire and the underside of the fender. You want a total of at least 3 to 4 inches of clearance. Another thing to consider is the larger tires have a maximum psi of 110 pounds and trailer tires should always be inflated to their max. This is important because the valve stems on your wheels...

Many wheel assemblies come with a valve stem rated for 65 psi or 80 psi at most. However, when a wheel like the one you asked the question from mentions a high pressure metal valve stem is included, this means that wheel will have a stem similar to # AM20906. This will hold the 110 lbs you referenced. For your compatible tires, I recommend the...

  • Should Trailer Tires Run with 10 Less psi During the Summer
  • There are 2 common misconceptions about trailer tires that can definitely lead to blow outs. The first is to fill the tires to the psi listing on the trailer instead of on the sidewall of the tire, and the second is to reduce or increase the air pressure. Both of these are incorrect and can/will lead to tire failure. When filling up your trailer tires you want to make sure they are cold (after the trailer has been sitting overnight) and then fill them to the psi rating on the sidewall....

  • The three tire brands are all great in their own ways but the best all-around will be the USA made Goodyear part # 724860519 for the tire size of 235/85R16. It will be the most reliable, has the highest speed rating at 87 mph and like I mentioned it's the only one made in the USA. It is a Load Range of E. Westlake is the best non-USA tire part # LHWL410. This is actually a Load Range G (the Goodyear is only available in F) so if you need the higher capacity 4,080-lb max load at 110 psi...

  • Westlake ST235/85R16 Trailer Tire Speed Rating
  • Westlake trailer tires ST235/85R16 like the # LHWL410 that you have are great trailer tires. A lot of people don't care for non-American made tires, and we can appreciate that sentiment, but the Westlake tires do not have the reputation for being unreliable junk at all. They actually are very reliable and even come with a 2 year roadside assistance program. The speed rating for these tires is 75 mph. If you stay under that and keep these tires inflated to their max psi rating of 110...

  • Recommended 235/85R16 Tires on 5th Wheel Trailer with Weight Capacity Rated Above Tire/Axle Capacity
  • Your Pilgrim International Open Road 357RLDS definitely has tires needing replaced. It is not uncommon to use LT tires on trailers, but it sounds like they have some dry rot going on. The stamp on the wheel rim unfortunately is not anything I'm familiar with so I can't help with that, but I can tell you that most trailers use a zero offset meaning that the mounting surface of the wheel to the hub is in the direct middle of the tire. The triangular or circular cutouts in the wheel are...

You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico. • Recommended ST235/85R16 Trailer Tire with Load Range G
  • Both the Provider ST235/85R16 # TTWPRG235R16 and the Westlake # LHWL410 Load Range G Tires referenced in your question represent premium options of this particular trailer tire size. These are both high quality radial tires with a maximum load of 4,400 pounds at 110 psi. Just keep in mind that when you upgrade the load capacity of your tires, you will still be limited by the axle capacity and capacities listed by your trailer manufacturer. I recommend going with the Westlake # LHWL410...

  • 16 inch Trailer Tire Recommendation for Grand Design 350 Momentum
  • Since you have room for the extra height of the 235/85-16 the best option will be this size. You'll get more capacity and a smoother ride. For this size the best option is the Westlake tire part # LHWL410. This has a capacity of 4,080-lb max load at 110 psi, a 75 mph speed rating and a 2 year roadside assistance program. • Recommended ST235/85R16 Tires for Triple Axle Toy Hauler
  • For the ST235/80R16 tire, you have a 30.79 inch outer diameter with a 9.25 inch width. Moving up to the ST235/85R16 tire, you will move to a 31.7 inch outer diameter with a 9.3 inch width. As long as you have the space for the extra 1/2 inch in your suspension travel, you will be able to move up in size. You always want to make sure your tires are inflated to the max psi when filled cold. This is how trailer tires are intended to function correctly and more or less tire pressure can...

  • What Load Range Tires to Use for a 16,000 lb Trailer with 7,000 lb Axles
  • For a trailer with 7,000 lb axles I recommend using Load Range G tires, like the Westlake # LHWL410. Load Range G tires are rated for 4,400 lb at 110 psi when using a single tire, and 3,860 lbs at 110 psi when using dual tires. If you are getting new wheels with the tires, like part # LHAXSJ421, make sure you select the right bolt pattern as well. I have attached a demonstration video of the products that I mentioned and some helpful links related to tire sizing and frequently asked...

  • Comparing Westlake ST235/85R16 Tires To Goodyear G614 Radial Tires
  • Westlake tires and 99% of ST rated trailer tires are made overseas, but meet or exceed the DOT and FMVSS specifications. The Westlake brand is one of the most popular trailer tire brands out there and customers have been very happy with them. They also come with the best warranty of any tire we carry because the manufacturer believes in their products and they have a complimentary roadside service for 2 years available anywhere in the US. The Westlake ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire...

  • Recommended Replacement Load Range G Radial Special Trailer Tire in Size ST235/85R16
  • A bubble on the inside sidewall of a trailer tire most often occurs from either excessive heat build-up (from under- or over-inflation, overloading or exceeding the tire's rated speed) or from an impact such as the sidewall hitting road debris. One thing or another causes the belts to separate, allowing air to reach the sidewall and create the bubble. We do not carry the Sailun brand so I have no first-hand experience with their products, but I can tell you that our customers who seek...

  • Dually Wheel and Tire Setup for 12k Axle with 16 inch Diameter Wheel
  • The Taskmaster wheel part # TTW660865SDX1C is a 16 inch diameter dually wheel for a trailer like yours. It has a 3,500 lb capacity per wheel too so that means with 4 on axle you'd have 14k which would be more than the 12k axle you have. The highest capacity 16 inch tire we have is the Lionshead part # LHWL410 which would be a great option as well. It has a 4,080 lb capacity at 110 psi so it would have more than enough capacity as well.

  • Reasons for Trailer Tire Failure in Size ST235/80R16
  • Tire failure is usually caused by a few things. It can be from overloading the trailer, improper tire inflation, and/or exceeding the speed rating for the tire. You should verify that the tire capacity you have for you trailer is adequate for how much your trailer weighs. The pressure ran in the tires makes a big difference in longevity too. ST tires should be ran with the full pressure rating stated on the side of the tire, for full load capacity and longevity of the tire. If lower...

  • Trailer Tire Recommendation to Replace Size ST235/80R16
  • I really like the Lionshead Trailer Tire part # LHWL410 which is the size you need of ST235/80R16 and is actually a higher Load Range of G as opposed to your E. This tire has a higher speed rating of 75 mph which is nice compared to most trailer tires that are only rated for 65. Also, this tire comes with complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a...

I looked up the G614 tires you referenced and found they were 235/85R16 tires; the load range F rated tire we have available in that size is the Kenda Karrier # AM10501 which is rated for 3,520 lbs at 110 psi. • Can Trailer Tires Filled with Nitrogen Have Air Added to Them
  • Yes, if you needed to add air to a tire that's filled with Nitrogen that's perfectly acceptable. The benefits of the Nitrogen in your tires will be reduced though based on how much you dilute it. Nitrogen doesn't leak through rubber as easily as air and also doesn't have as much of a pressure change based on temperature too.
