Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Video Transcript for Westlake Tires and Wheels - Tire Only - LHWL304 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Westlake ST22575R15 radial trailer tire in a load range E. Now, this radial tire's made of a high quality rubber, which is reinforced by layers of steel and polyester belts. It is great for highway use. The tread design will maximize road contact and traction. They do use a nylon overlay around the whole tread, which prevents tread separation. They do use tread wear indicators on this tire, like you'll see on your passenger car tires.

What that is is if you look on the shoulder every so often you'll see a TWI listing. What that means, right where that is, if you go to the tread grooves where that is, you'll see a raised area in each groove; almost looks like a speed bump. That tread wear indicator's at two thirty seconds tread now. What that does, it tells you when this tire wears down, and that tread wear indicator's a straight line across your tread, that means your tires worn out at two thirty seconds. As your tires wearing, if you just look at where the tread wear mark is, it'll give you a good visual indication of how the tire's wearing. This is a special trailer tire design.

It will couple the strength of a bias tire with the durability, and stability of a radial tire. It is created specifically for trailers. It is not intended for use on any other vehicles. This tire does meet the Department of Transportation's specifications. Few specs on this: This tire will fit on the wheel size of fifteen by six, fifteen by six and a half, and fifteen by seven. The tire size, which is stamped on the sidewall ST, for Special Trailer, 22575R15.

The R designates that it is a radial design tire. Section width on this tire is eight-point-eight inches. Overall diameter from the bottom to top when it's inflated is twenty-eight-point-three. This tire is a load range E, which means it's a ten ply rated tire, so it does have a maximum load capacity. If used in a single tire application, it's two thousand eight hundred thirty pounds at eighty PSI.

If it's used in a dual tire application, it's two thousand four hundred and seventy pounds at eighty PSI. The last thing I do want to mention is that most all of your new trailer tires are coming with a speed rating stamped on them. It's usually listed after the tire size. If you look after that you'll see two numbers for the load index, and then a letter L. Speed rating's always designated with a letter, so this is L, which means seventy-five miles per hour. That should do it for the review on the Westlake ST22575R15 radial trailer tire, in a load range E.

Made in China has a connotation of poor quality at best, most of the time junk. These Westlake tires are made in China however to the contrary they are top-quality. Don’t hesitate in using these as replacement! Plus buy them from etrailer.com, for first class service, call and asked for Chris W!! 549042

Review from a similar Westlake ST Radial in Tires and Wheels

I replaced my tires on our 40' 5th wheel RV because the ones that came with it were 3 years old. They showed almost no wear even though we had crossed the country. I bought these tires because they are the same tire. The only caution I have for buyers is that the West Lake rims that go with these tires are very difficult for installers to dis-mount and mount on pneumatic tire machines. It takes two skilled mechanics to do it, and it is very easy for them to ruin the aluminum rims. 713331

Westlake tires are what came stock on my trailer from Kaufman. I have about 60K miles on my trailer and have only gone through 1 set of tires and the second set I bought has about 50% tread left on them. They perform well, last a long time and hold up to the heavy loads I place on them. I would say I am 100% happy with them! 707847

Found a match for our existing trailer tires on the website and it was shipped out the next day. Had it at the house in just a few days. Also took advantage of a few other items to be eligible for the free shipping. Didn't know an anti-wobble receiver hitch device existed, I wish I would have found that years ago. I'll definitely bookmark etrailer's web page for my next RV/Trailer need. 663280

My last tires from etrailer lasted 3 years of daily use. Although I have yet to put many miles on these I expect excellent results. Lisa D. guided me through the selection process. This Westlake model is a better fit (205) than my previous tire (215) yet offeres the same 8-ply & D load rating. My local stores still think they don’t make radial trailer tires! I can’t recommend etrailer highly enough! 569338

15000 miles and no problems with "G" rated Westlakes. They were installed by the OEM when we purchased the 42', 16000lb, 5th Wheel. I have added TPMS and so far, no worries. The reason we ordered (2) new tires, we had a dual leaf spring failure and the tires didn't fail, but both rubbed on the frame and we are replacing them out of caution. I've owned China Bombs on previous 5th Wheels and like many, we suffered miserably the consequences of cheap tires. We started to go with Sailuns instead, but have had such great performance with these, we decided to stay brand loyal. RAH! 620215

Seems like it's a quality tire. Only issue I have that gave me a slight reservation about quality/durability is the extremely obvious seam where the tread was mated end to end to itself during construction. I don't recall ever seeing this on a good quality tire before. 560662

e-trailer was great. The trailer tires I had ordered were on back order, and they took the time to call me to see if another product could be shipped, in case I was in a hurry. Me and my family went on a 5000 mile round trip vacation. We encountered a lot of different road conditions without a problem and the tires are still currently being used on the camper. The only hitch I had was a very long lead time from the time of ordering the tire and the delivery. Seems like it was a couple months which was frustrating when I was trying to prepare for this trip. Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • What Causes Trailer Tire Blowouts
  • Every trailer tire has a load range rating specific to that particular tire. For example, we have the ST225/75-15 trailer tire in three load range ratings; Load Range C (2,150 lbs per tire), Load Range D (2,540 lbs per tire), and Load Range E (2,830 lbs per tire). If the gross trailer weight (GTW) exceeds the tires load range rating then the tires will be susceptible to blowouts. In addition to load range ratings, trailer tires also have a speed ratings specific to the tire. The speed...

  • Trailer Tire Load Ranges, Speed Ratings and Sizes to Avoid Blowouts
  • Special trailer tires in any given size are available in various load ranges as you noted, but they also can have different speed ratings too. Driving a tire faster than its rated speed can lead to failure just like overloading it past its weight capacity can. Both conditions lead to excess heat and that is what typically leads to a tire failure. Since your 18K trailer has 3 axles and 6 tires each tire should be rated for approximately 3000-lbs if you routinely operate the trailer at...

  • Can Size 225/75-15 Load Range D Trailer Tires be Replaced with Load Range E Tires
  • There's no harm in putting tires with a higher load range on your trailer when replacing them. With that being said there's no gain either. At least not from the load range. The tires technically have a higher capacity but that isn't going to increase the capacity of your trailer because you're still limited by whatever component has the lowest rating. As long as you still keep the trailer within its capabilites the higher rated tires will work just fine for you. I'm guessing your...

  • If you install new 225/75-15 tires on your trailer or any trailer for that matter with a load range e rating like part # LHWL304 for example then you will need to fill them to the max psi listed on the sidewall which for this tire is 80 psi. This will allow you to retain the maximum weight capacity of 2,830 lbs per tire. • I would go with the Lionshead tire part # LHWL304. This is the nicest tire we have in the size of 225/75-15 and it also has a 2 year roadside warranty which gives a bit of peace of mind. For the 235/80-16 by Lionshead you'd want then the part # LHWL401. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or Puerto Rico. What's...

  • Will Load Capacity Of Aluminum HWT 07 Series 6 Spoke Trailer Wheel Handle Trailer Weight of 4500 lbs
  • Yes, the Aluminum HWT 07 Series 6 Spoke Trailer Wheel - 15" x 6" - 6 on 5-1/2 # AM20458 has a weight capacity of 2,830 lbs. That is per wheel, so when you use it on a single axle, you would double that capacity giving you a max capacity for your trailer of 5660 lbs. You will be limited by the tires you choose as well as the capacity of the axle itself. For a matched tire rating to the wheel, I recommend the Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL304. This...

  • Pressure Rating of Valve Stem Included in Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel 560655MSPVD
  • On the Taskmaster Steel Modular Trailer Wheel # 560655MSPVD the included rubber valve stem is rated for pressure up to 65-psi. For a rubber valve stem good to 80-psi use part # AM20904; for one good to 100-psi you can use # AM20907, or for a metal valve stem for pressure of 100-psi and above use part # AM20906. A Load Range E-rated ST225/75-15 trailer tire like # AM10303, # LHWL304 or # TR225LRE will need one rated for at least 80-psi.

  • Recommended 15 Inch Travel Trailer Tires With D Or E Load Rating
  • The biggest possible issue with moving to 16 inch wheels is the bolt pattern. The 16 inch wheels would move you to a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Even though you may have clearance this would then move you into a different hub. I recommend you go to the Provider ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # TTWTRTM2257515D which will move your overall diameter to 28.31 inches. These tires are rated for 2540 at 65 psi and have a speed rating of up to 81 mph. This will move you...

  • Recommended 7.00-15 LT and 225/75-15 ST Tires for 28-ft, 8,500-lb Loaded Boat Trailer
  • The capacity of your tires is determined by their load range. The exact capacity should be listed on the tire itself. For instance, our Kenda Light Truck Tire K391M - 7.00-15 LT - Load Range E, Item # AM10414 has a maximum load of 2,403 lbs per tire and would be more than capable of towing your boat trailer with four tires. If you wanted to convert to a different tire type, I would suggest going with ST (Special Trailer) tires rather than LT (Light Truck) tires. Because the LT identification...

  • Difference Between Trailer Tire Sizes ST205/75R15 and ST225/75R15
  • The two sizes you mentioned are pretty similar and fit many of the same 15 inch wheels. The 205/75-15 fits rim widths of 5 inch to 6-1/2 inch whereas the 225/75-15 fits widths that are 6 inch to 7 inch. The 205 is 27.1 inches tall and the 225 is 28.4 inches tall. The 225 has higher capacities available for it as well. Generally people go to the bigger size when they need more capacity than what the 205 offers. In that size the part # LHWL304 is our best option as it has a 75 mph speed...

  • Can Trailer Tire Size 205/75-15 be Replaced with 225/75-15
  • When trying to upgrade to different sized tires, you will need to be aware of both width and height clearances between the new tire size and your trailer. A trailer tire sized 205/75-15, like # AM10245, will have a diameter of almost 27-5/16 inches and a width of a little over 8 inches. A tire sized 225/75-15, like # LHWL304, will have a width at almost 9 inches and diameter that is almost 28-13/32 inches. The new tire will be almost an 1 inch wider and 1 inch taller than your current...

  • Weight Capacity of 5th Wheel Trailer Tires Required Accounting for King Pin Weight in GVWR
  • Technically you do remove the tongue weight of the trailer from the tire load capacity for the GVWR. The tires only need to be rated for the weight that is actually on the tire, so the axles can even be rated slightly lower. This however is not normally the case. In most instances the axles and especially the tires are rated higher than the required capacity for the GVWR. For 15 inch tires the load rating of E is the highest rating we carry. The Westlake ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer...

  • Can I Go Down To a Smaller Sized Trailer Tire?
  • The simple answer to this question is yes; you will be able to go down to a 205/75R15 tire, provided that you can find a tire with the same load rating as your current tires and aren't worried about having slightly less ground clearance on your trailer. The main issue you'll need to consider is if you have a Load Range E tire like the # LHWL304 , you're not going to find a 205/75R15 tire that has the same "E" load rating. You'll want to check the trailer information plate/sticker which...
