Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

This is a replacement tire. I used the same make and designation to match other trailer tires. Pep Boys did the mounting for about $17 on the old rim (install, check balance, valve stem and old tire disposal). These newer tires have the speed rating on them with an excellent 81 MPH. Which is better than the competitors with the same tire designation. The other manufactures had a speed rating of 65 MPH. The five star rating is based upon the cost, timely deliver and that it mounted and balanced without any issues. Thanks etrailer! 437239

Quick and simple ordering process; I chose free shipping, thinking I'd get this pair of tires in 2 weeks, but they arrived in 6 days and it was easy to check their progress from halfway across the country. As for the tires: these are an exact match for those that came with my dual axle trailer, which we are using for timber and milling work in the Midwest--some 1500 miles away, so these bias ply tires have seen a load of interstate miles--currently 22,000-- as well as off-road timber work, and they have held up well. My trailer manufacturer has moved to radial tires (supposedly better for the highway), but I was pleased to find these priced right at etrailer. Class operation; will order from them again. 333175

Comments
No problems this set is right at 18,000 miles about 98 highway and interstate use back and forth to Midwest and twice to East Coast. Should replace the original pair on the other axle which are getting smooth. Will do that at etrailer, of course. Thanks.

Tires seem to be of excellent quality and have performed well so far. It was difficult to get the bead to seal on the wheel since the tires were sort of squashed flat when they arrived, but after considerable wrestling, they finally got a bite and pumped up. 245709

From the initial order through the delivery at my front door, the process could not have been easier. The tire was delivered in a solid cardboard container preventing any damage in shipping. Mounted the next day and back on the road we were. Etrailer has my highest reccomendation and will receive my business from here on out. 228069

I had to order 2 new trailer tires and wanted the same brand that was on it already. I discovered etrailer.com and noticed they carry the exact tire I was looking for. I was kind of in a hurry for the tires and was hoping they could get them to me quickly. They do have super fast shipping and the tires showed up just in time. I've ordered lots of tires in my lifetime and this is the first time I've had tires delivered in a box. Each tire was in it's own box. I thought that was pretty cool. To me, it shows they care about their product. Thanks for the fast shipping and the extra care you take delivering tires. 209286

Ask the Experts about this Taskmaster Trailer Tires and Wheels

  • Is Radial or Bias Ply Trailer Tire Best For Highway Use
We actually have an FAQ article on trailer tires, part of which covers bias ply tires versus radial tires. I have included a link to the whole FAQ article for you. Basically bias ply trailer tires are seen more often on agricultural and off-road applications but they still work well on pavement. Radial tires track better and run cooler than bias ply tires and are best suited for highway use. Because of the construction of a radial tire, the tire has more flex and will allow for more...

  • Best Tire Options for Trailer Tire Size 205/75/15
We do have options for your new 205/75-15 tires. I will give you recommendations for the load range C and D for this size tire. The most economical tire for the C Load Range is the Loadstar Bias Trailer Tire # AM1ST92, The next option would be the Taskmaster Bias Trailer Tire # TTWSF20515C, and your best option would be the Provider Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2057515C. These tires in the Load Range C have an 1,820 lb maximum load capacity at 50 psi. The difference between bias tires...

  • Will Increasing Trailer Tire Size Improve Tire Reliability for Carry On 5 x 10 Utility Trailer
I have a solution for you to potentially increase your utility trailer tires' durability but you may not need to change your tire size. A larger diameter/wider trailer tire can be substituted for the stock size when there is enough clearance within the wheel well/fender and around suspension and brake components. Your size ST205/75D15 tires have an overall diameter of right around 27-inches while a 225/75-15 will be about 1-1/2-inches larger at about 28-1/2-inches. You need to maintain...

  • What Tire Pressure Does Trailer Tire Size ST205/75-15 Load Range C Take
With trailer tires you have to keep them inflated to their max psi rating at all times to ensure you get the full capacity and prevent failure from heat build up. For the tire size you have of 205/75D15 in a Load Range C all of our tires are listed as needing 50 or 65 psi to get full capacity like the part # TTWSF20515C which needs 50 psi. You'd need to check the sidewall to determine what you'd need as that will be the final authority.

  • Tire and Tire/Wheel Combos for Enclosed Cargo Trailer with ST205/75-15 Tires
The main difference between a radial ply and a bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords inside a bias ply tire run at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, and the cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear. A radial tire will normally run cooler than a bias ply tire, especially...

  • Inflation Pressure and Speed Rating for ST205/57D15 Special Trailer Tires
You ask a very important question. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi pressure rating that is noted on the tire sidewall. Any trailer tire can deliver its rated weight carrying capacity only when fully inflated to its maximum pressure. It is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer tire. Doing so increases the risk of heat build-up and tire failure. As with your vehicle's tires, always check and inflate trailer tires when they are cold. Trailer...

The Taskmaster tire you have is the part # TTWSF20515C which has a PSI rating of 50 and a max load of 1,820 lbs. With trailer tires you have to always run the max pressure rating listed to ensure you get the full weight capacity. So for your tires you need to keep 50 psi in them.

  • All Terrain Tire Recommendation for Dual Axle 7K Trailer Used in Rocky Mountains
I'd recommend that you go with bias tires for your trailer. Bias ply tires have stiffer sidewalls than radial tires, which allows the entire tire to flex easily. This results in a smoother ride on uneven surfaces, making it ideal for off-road and agricultural applications. The tires I recommend for your 7 x 14 dual axle trailer are the Taskmaster 15" Bias Tires, # TTWSF20515C. These tires are load range C, which would give you a total maximum load of 7280 lb with 4 tires. With speed...

This radial special trailer tire has a ply rating of 8 and a 2,150-lb maximum load at 65 psi. The difference between a bias and radial ply is in regards to the directions of the cords. In short, a radial ply tire will run cooler than a bias ply tire which makes it better for highway use.
