Corrosion-Resistant Finish

The steel wheel goes through a 3-step finishing process that makes it both attractive and corrosion resistant. The wheel is first submerged in a zinc phosphate bath to ensure good paint adhesion. It is then e-coated with an acrylic primer base and the outboard side is finished with baked-on DuPont powder paint. The light e-coat on the inboard side of the wheel reduces friction between the wheel and your hub and eliminates the flaking that can occur with a heavily applied paint finish.

Improved Torque Retention Technology

The automotive-rated center disc is raised and the stud holes are beveled and uncoated for better clamp force retention. This technology helps the wheel stay tight against your hub without the need for constant retightening.

Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Taskmaster Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - TTWAS12B4SMHP Review

Today, we're going to review part number TTWAS12B4SMHP. This is the task master 480 by 12 bias trailer tire in a low ranged C mounted on a 12 inch silver mod steel wheel with the 4 on 4 bolt pattern. Now this tire wheel assembly's ideal for boat trailers, stock trailers, utility trailers and campers. The steel wheel here is a modular design by that they mean it has the round holes in the design of the wheel. It's very sturdy and corrosion resistant. Now the wheel itself they use a three step finishing process which include a phosphate zinc bath then an ecoat primer and then a silver powder coat on the outside of the wheel and on the inside of the wheel they actually lightly ecoat it to reduce friction and provide rust resistance with less flaking. Now this does use the .. Swill does use the ITR technology which is the improved tork retention.

This will help keep your wheel securely in place on your trailer. They use uncoated stud holes that are bevel to offer a better clamp force retention. Now the tire itself is a bias ply tire which is constructed with strong nylon chords which is great for off-road and agricultural use. It dose also use the tread death bars that if you go along the side there'll be a TWI indication about every 12 inches. What that's indicating if you go to the tread grooves you'll see a raised bar and that's that 2:30 seconds tread. It almost looks like a speed-bump.

That goes all the way across the tire so when this tire wears down and that bar is straight all the way across that means the tires worn out. It gives you a quick visual indicator of the tread wear. It also includes this metal high pressure valve stem which is included in the assembly. This whole assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications and it does exceed the Federal Vehicle Safety Standards. A few specs on this, the dimension which is measured inside to inside on this wheel is 12 inches. The width is 4 inches wide.

The bolt pattern as you can see is 4 on 4 inches and if you ever want to measure the bolt pattern on a wheel that has an even number of lugs in this case 4. You'd measure from the center of one hole directly across to the center of the hole right across from it and that distance would be 4 inches. This does use a wheel lug size of a half inch by twenty. The weight capacity on just the wheel by itself is 1,250 pounds and the pilot hole diameter which is the large hole right here in the center of the wheel. That measures 2.28 inches in diameter. Now the tire itself is listed, you can see it on the side, 480-12, that's the size of the tire. The section width on this tire is 4.75 inches.

Overall diameter from the very bottom to the top when it's inflated is twenty and a half inches. This is a load range c which means it's a six by rated tire and the tire has a maximum load capacity of 990 pounds at 90 psi and does have a maximum speed rating which is on the tire. If you look after the size it'll say 80 and them M. M designates the speed rating which means 81 miles per hour. That should do it for the review on part number TTWAS12B4SMHP. This is the task master 480 by 12 bias trailer tire in the load range C on this 12 inch silver mod steel wheel with the 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern.

Fits great for our trailer. Good quality 689942

like always etrailer hits it out of the park. great fit, awesome price, and fast shipping. In town would have been $80 each tire/wheel combo. 509814

I choice these 12” tire/wheel combo to replace the 8” tire/wheel that came with the trailer frame kit. I wanted an upgraded tire for safe highway speed. Also wanted a silver rim to match the rims of my car. I ordered three, so I’ll have a spare. So far, I’ve traveled 1600 miles with the new set (highway 65-70), and am very pleased. Shipping was fast and packaged well. 460671

So far so good. Proof is when they hit the road. Send me a follow-up in a few months and I can better tell you how they preform The tires arrived well packaged on the date you promised. Let me know if 90 psi in the proper inflation. 501605

90psi is indeed the correct air pressure for this tire. For maximum durability and load bearing capacity, trailer tires should always remain inflated to the maximum pressure listed on the tire sidewall. Ive linked to an article with more information about trailer tires.

Just got my two new wheels and put them on my utility trailer. These are the four hole wheels with "C" rated tires and they look real nice too. No more nasty looking H.F. "B" rated tires with white painted wheels, and these are safe to use at highway speeds. Etrailer got them to me quickly and their prices was great. 698537

Tires and rims are great look really nice on the trailer. Only dealer I have ever dealt with who one year after purchasing followed up to make sure I was happy with my purchase. I would highly recommend etrailer for price and service. 677507

Good tires. Didn't have any problems on a 300 mile trip. And still going with light use throughout the year. 647654

They had three tires in stock Had to order one and still got the tires a week early, nice customer support, very polite and helpful and fast delivery, great to do business with,,I will return and tell my friends and family,Thank You ! Very Much ! 492029

Tires and rims look very good have not had time to use them yet. Very quick delivery time. 459348

Just what I was looking for. I also bought these for my 1997 Reese Backpacker trailer. This is a really good looking wheel and tire set that, way better than the old white 8" tires I had. Was looking for a higher speed rating and these were perfect. Just finished a 1,300 road trip with them and no issues at all. 419577

The wheels are beautiful. I installed with chrome acorn nuts. No problems with the tires. 409312

Just received the two rims with tires mounted. Arrived in a timely manner along with a battery box with lid. All items appear to be of first class quality. The rims are of higher quality than the original rims I'm replacing. Original rims were actually manufactured in two halves. The etrailer rims are solid with the center welded. We are restoring a 34 year old fishing boat/trailer and the rims and battery box get us near completion! Very satisfied at this point with the wheels/tires. Everything was as portrayed and matches the written descriptions! 394167

The customer service at etrailer.com is phenomenal. I received my order only 2 days after I placed the order, and the product itself was great quality. I purchased these as a replacement tire for my harbor freight trailer and could not have made a better choice. These tires have traveled across the US twice in the last year, nad I have not had an issue. In fact they look like brand new rims still. Not to mention being able to travel at highway speeds makes my trips much easier. The 55 limit of my trailers original tires was sub par. I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking to upgrade your trailer wheels. 392942

Very happy with my new tires. I was told many good things about etrailer.com. And they are all true, and I will use them in the future. 381184

I restored an old trailer and wanted to upsize the tires from 8 inch to 12 inch. First I bought tires from a local hardware store, but did not trust them at freeway speed, because they are labeled as spare tire,do not exceed 55mph. After reading reviews,I bought these tires instead and will be using the other tires as spares. 380162

Quality Wheel. Quality Tire. Etrailer made my purchase easy and simple. Shipping was fast also. Would recommend this product to everyone. I am using this tire for a Boat trailer. 352966

better than I expected 351191

I am a repeat customer. These are replacement wheels for a Gator convertible boat - type trailer. I am truly impressed. The workmanship is superb and the paint is especially smooth. The steel is heavy duty with no ragged edges, plus the modular wheel just looks great on a tilt trailer. I plan to use this trailer to haul whatever necessary and not mess up My new van. I have nothing but respect for E Trailer; great stuff super fast shipping, and a really nice staff. 341744

Wheels were delivered today. I was shocked that they arrived already (was less than a week). Of course they were just like your picture and the description was right on. They look great, can't wait to take off those old wheel and put these on. 333647

Perfect upgrade from the small 8in tires the trailer used to have, 950lb and 81mph rating is exactly what I needed. 272776

I bought the 12" tire wheel combo to replace the 8" wheel/ tires on my 1997 Reese Backpacker trailer. Love the affordable price.I liked the 80 mph rating although I'll only be running them around 65 mph on the highway. I haven't used them yet but I have a long summer trip planned. I'm hoping the 12" tires will run a little cooler at highway speeds. The loads that I'm carrying in the trailer are much less than the rated load of the new tires so I feel more comfortable with the long trip. Time will tell if the tires are good. I sure hope they are!!!!!!! 261377

  • Trailer Tire Miles Per Hour Rating
That is correct, all of our 12 inch, 4 on 4 trailer tires are rated for maximum highway speeds of 65 mph. This is a normal speed rating for trailer tires. I recommend our Taskmaster brand trailer tires, such as the Taskmaster 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire # TTWAS12B4SMHP. This tire has a rating of load range C. If you need a 5.30-12 tire, you could use Taskmaster # TTWAS53012SM4HP. I have attached a link to all of our 12 inch, 4 on 4 trailer tires.

  • How To Read And Choose The Correct Numeric Size Tire
I have the perfect size tire and wheels for you but the 4.80/4.00-8 tire is not the same as the 4.80-12 tire. Both tires have the same section width of 4.80 inches which is found by measuring the length of tread across the top of the tire. However, the 4.80/4.00-8 tire is designed to fit a 8" diameter wheel whereas the 4.80-12 tire is designed to fit a 12" diameter wheel. You will need the 4.80-12 wheel and tire with 4 on 4 lug pattern for your trailer and for this, I recommend using...

The Taskmaster 4.80-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" Silver Mod Wheel part # TTWAS12B4SMHP is an acceptable replacement for your existing 5.70-8 Trailer Tires on a 4 on 4 bolt pattern wheel like part # AM30120 as long as you have clearance. The general rule of thumb is 3" of clearance from the top of the tire to your fender and at least 1" of clearance between the inside of the tire and your trailer's frame rail.
