Taskmaster Radials

Taskmaster radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Taskmaster radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Video Transcript for Taskmaster Tires and Wheels - Tire Only - TT48012C Review

Speaker 1: Today we're going to look at the Task Master 4.80R12 radial trailer tire in a low range C. Now this is a radial tire which is great for highway use. It is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for a long time. It is bake tested to ensure that the rubber holds up over time. They do use a nylon tread firming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. This tire will meet the DOT which is the department of transportation specifications and exceeds your federal motor vehicle safety standards.A few specs on this tire, it is designed to fit on wheel sizes of 12 inches by four inches wide.

The tire size which is stamped on here, 4.80R12. The R stands for radial tire. Section width on this is 4.8 inches wide. Overall diameter from the bottom to the top when it's inflated, it's 20.6. This is a low range C tire which means it's a six ply rated tire.

So it does have a maximum load capacity of 990 pounds at 90 PSI.One last thing I do want to mention, most all the new trailer tires are coming through with a speed rating now. It does have to be stamped on the tire. So really if you look right where the load range is listed right here, the top line will say, "Maximum speed rating is M." That means 81 miles per hour. So this tire has an 80 mile per hour speed rating. That should do it for the review on the Task Master 4.80R12 radial trailer tire in a load range C.

Product arrived on time packaged neatly with all 3 tires in a box. Tires were date coded Dec 2016, so a little old but should give a couple years service I hope. Tires were in great shape. Replacing the bias ply tires on my teardrop trailer to hopefully get better service on the highway. Time will tell, but have had good luck so far using etrailer for parts on the teardrop. 519039

After a year tires are wearing great on the trailer. These are the best tires that have been on the trailer. A couple thousand miles on them so far. Definitely will put another set of them on the tear when these wear out.

I purchased a pair of these tires for my boat trailer coverted to a utility trailer. The amount of treads on these radial tires are far superior than the bias ply tires I had on the trailer. The bias tires lasted less than 1000 miles. I have pulled 50 bags of mulch with no issues. I had a tire shop to mount the tires. I told them to inflate to the recommended pressure of 90 psi. They didn't do that. They infalted only to 55 psi. I asked why and they said they were afraid to inflate such a small tire to that pressure. I explaned to them the difference between car tires and trailer tires. I then brought my tires home an inflated to 90 psi. Thanks e-trailer for answering my questions about proper tire inflation and a great website. 544177

Not bad. Mounted on a mini camper and made a journey from Arkansas to Alaska with side trips to Colorado and Idaho and back. I’d order them again if the need dictates and would recommend both the product and service from etrailer. Change my rating to a 5.

Even before I get to the review form I want to tell you I was "blown away" when I got a notice a very few hours after ordering that it was shipped. Lori (I think her name is) was very helpful with wisdom about tires and searching for some hardware we couldn't exactly match but found some good enough. Gave me her number at end of first call in case I needed any more help and I did. All arrived before noon. Over the years I have noticed that tire quality is often approximately reflected in visible details like the fit of the mold segments, amount of flash, the surface finish, crispness of fill. These are some of the prettiest tires I've ever seen that weren't top of the line Michelins, Pirellis or Bridgestones. I gave them a roll and a sharp eye and saw no wavers vertical or horizontal. Of course the ultimate issue is price. I don't know how you do it. No store in Jacksonville can come close. Even Wal-mart. 595767

To get your high speed radial tires with wheel, we will need to move away from the galvanized wheel. • Should Trailer with 4 inches of Fender Clearance and Tire Size 4.80-12 Upgrade Size
Honestly I would not recommend going with a larger tire size. You have basically the minimum fender and frame rail clearance currently and going with a larger size will most likely cause issue. If you want to keep the same size tire then I recommend going with the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. This is a radial tire (better for highway use than bias) with a load rating C (990 lbs at 90 psi) and a max speed rating of 81 mph.

  • Recommended Trailer Tire Upgrade for 4.80-12 Size Tires
If you want to keep the same size tire then I recommend going with the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. This is a radial tire (better for highway use than bias) with a load rating C (990 lbs at 90 psi) and a max speed rating of 81 mph. This tire does fit 12" x 4" rims though so if you truly do have a 3-3/4" wide rim (measured from bead seat to bead seat) then you will also need to use a different wheel. If this is the case then I recommend going with the Kenda Karrier...

  • Trailer Tire Replacement for Size 4.80-12
Looking at your current fender clearance I would not recommend going with a wider and taller tire than what you have. Sticking with a 4.80-12 would be your best option. • Recommended 4.80x12 Trailer Tires for Speeds Over 65 MPH
A trailer's weight capacity is dependent on the weakest component in the system which could be the axle, the springs, the coupler or any other component. Normally tires are rated higher than the wheels they are attached to so that will likely reduce that rating as well. The speed rating of the tires has nothing to do with the load capacity. Many trailer tires have that 65 mph max speed rating whether for very small or very large trailers. The tire manufacturer has tested each tire...

  • Highest Speed Rating for a 4.80 x 12 Trailer Tire
The speed rating limitation for a trailer will come down to the tires, it has little to nothing to do with the axle, hub, or wheel size. That said, smaller tires generally do have lower speed ratings but you do not need to upgrade the wheels on your trailer in order to use a tire with a higher speed rating. I recommend the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire part # TT48012C which has radial plies that you will want for highway use and an 81 speed rating which should be plenty. I like...

You are definitely going to need radial tires for highway speeds and the best option is the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C. Radial trailer tires are constructed in a manner so they have cords which run at 90 degrees to the direction of travel. This ensures it will flex more than a bias tire, which means it has more traction, stability and will run cooler, allowing it to last longer and making it the best option for highway travel. The best 4.80-12 size tire for your 2002 Viking Saga pop-up camper is the Taskmaster 4.80R12 Radial Trailer Tire # TT48012C because the radial design is better for highway use as it better dissipates heat, it has a load range of C (990 lbs at 90 psi), and a max speed rating of 81 mph.
