Standard Trailer Tire Tread

Contender Tire Tread

The standard tread on these tires has solid, continuous ribs, and it has very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. These tires are designed for use on trailers, so they don't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Contender radials have double polyester cords and double steel belts. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

I ordered tires for my RV using the Website, the tires were not available from the distribution centre at that time, Ricky ( e-Trailer Rep) called and gave me some options in a timely manner. Got the tires in my garage a week later than the original delivery date, I liked that they were individually boxed. Great job and thanks for being on top of my order. Exactly what I ordered - no issues. 549827

Tires were an excellent replacement from my original tires - no comparison. My trailer is 10,500 lbs and the wear rate looks good so far.

I blew a tire on my 5th wheel trailer coming home last fall. These were recommended to me as a replacement but they only had two available at the time. Once back on the highway I noticed right away the trailer handled much better and smother. Come spring I could not find these tires available locally without paying an arm and leg for them. I found these on line and purchased another pair. I look forward to be on the road again and seeing what four will do in handling. Service was great through etrailer and will recommend them in the future 666004

- C22515E

Tires arrived in a matter of days. Now they are at shop getting mounted. Happy so far only complaint is with the delivery they were dropped in my carport and no door knock or ringing of doorbell(with name on it) as I was at home. Overall good service. 658368

  • Best High Capacity Trailer Tire for Size ST225/75-15
I have a really great and overkill trailer tire I can recommend for your boat trailer that weighs a total of 7,300 lbs with the USA made Goodyear part # 724857519. This has the highest capacity in the Load Range E with 2,830 max load at 80 psi for this tire size, has the best automotive style tread pattern which gives maximum traction in wet and dry conditions and also comes with a really great warranty as well. I attached a review video for this tire for you to check out as well.

  • How to Select Correct Replacement Tires for Horse Trailer
There are 2 things you need to look at when choosing a replacement tire. The first is your old trailer tire size (can be found on the tire sidewall), and the second is the weight capacity of your horse trailer. For the example, the Contender Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E that you referenced has a size ST225/75R15 and a load range E which is 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. This means that when this tire is mounted on a axle you count the weight capacity twice so you'd have 5,660 lbs of weight capacity....

There is not an optimum E-rated trailer tire size, you will need to choose tires that fit your rim and that have the correct load rating for your trailer. For example you mentioned you had a 15" x 8" rim so option for a tire that has a load rating of E that fits a rim of that size you will need the Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E. This tire fits 15" diameter rims and has a maximum load capacity of 2,830 lbs at 80 psi; the load capacity is per tire. When inflated...

  • Is Contender Trailer Tire ST225/75-15 A Good Tire Option for 1976 Shasta Camper
The Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # C22515E is a great trailer tire that I would recommend highly for your 1976 camper as long as this is the correct size you'd need. Assuming it's correct size replacement it's a really great tire all around. It has a higher speed rating at 81 mph, is a radial which means it'll be more stable and run cooler and also has a 2 year warranty.

  • Where Are Contender Trailer Tires Manufactured
The Contender # C22515E is manufactured in China, as are most tires these days, but we do carry Goodyear tires that are made in the USA. The closest available r15 tire we have available from Goodyear is the Goodyear Endurance # 724861519 which is a ST205/75r15 Load Range D tire, manufactured in the USA. These Goodyear Endurance tires have a maximum load of 2150-lbs per tire at full inflation, so you'll want to make sure that your trailer capacity does not outweigh these tires. As long as...

  • Do I Need to Balance the Tires on My Livestock Trailer
Because trailer tires like the Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Tire # C22515E are designed more with carrying a vertical load in mind, as opposed to gripping the road through turns as an automobile tire would, dynamic balancing of your trailer tires isn't a huge concern. Steering and cornering are of much less concern with a trailer than they are with an automobile. With that being said, you can have your trailer tires balanced if you desire. • How to Choose Correct Tires for Carrying a 9,200 lb Formula 33 Boat
To determine the correct rating you just need to look at the load capacity of the tire. For example, the Endurance ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # 724857519 has a load range E which is 2,830 lbs at 80 psi. Since you have a triple axle trailer you simply need to multiply the weight capacity by 6 to get the combined weight rating and then make sure it meets or exceeds the GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating) of your trailer. The Contender ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # C22515E have excellent ability to brake due to their deep tread, which is 8.4/32" deep, which is considerable for a trailer tire. So long as you have a good brake controller with proportional braking like the Curt Echo # C51180 you'll have a long-lasting, quality tire. • Trailer Tire Load Ranges, Speed Ratings and Sizes to Avoid Blowouts
Special trailer tires in any given size are available in various load ranges as you noted, but they also can have different speed ratings too. Driving a tire faster than its rated speed can lead to failure just like overloading it past its weight capacity can. Both conditions lead to excess heat and that is what typically leads to a tire failure. Since your 18K trailer has 3 axles and 6 tires each tire should be rated for approximately 3000-lbs if you routinely operate the trailer at...

Upgrading from a ST205/75R15 to a ST225/75R15 is a very common upgrade on trailers as long as you have the clearance. The ST225/75R15 tires are only about a 1" wider and taller compared to the ST205/75R15. The general rule is you want to keep 3 inches of vertical clearance above the top of the tire to allow for normal travel of the trailer's suspension and 1-2 inches of clearance between the tire's sidewall and the closest part of the trailer.
