Built-In Offset for Dual Applications

This tire-and-wheel assembly is designed to be used in dual-wheel setups. The 6.1" offset allows the wheel to be positioned closer to the trailer frame when used as the inner wheel of the setup. And if you use this assembly as the outer tire and wheel, the offset ensures that it will sit closer to the outside of your trailer.

Stud-Piloted Wheel

This stud-piloted (Budd-type) wheel centers on the studs instead of the hub. This requires the use of inner and outer lug nuts (sold separately). The nuts should be threaded correctly for the left and right sides of your trailer.

Corrosion-Resistant Finish

The steel wheel goes through a 3-step finishing process that makes it both attractive and corrosion resistant. The wheel is first submerged in a zinc phosphate bath to ensure good paint adhesion. It is then e-coated with an acrylic primer base and finished on both sides with baked-on DuPont powder paint.

Provider Radials

Provider radials are constructed with double polyester cords and double steel belts for increased durability and endurance. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation. Provider radials are bake tested - a process usually reserved for automotive tires - to ensure that the rubber holds up over time.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Taskmaster Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - A235J-10 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Provider 235/75 R 17.5 radial trailer tire in a load range J mounted on this 17-1/2 white dual wheel with the 10 on 8 3/4-inch bolt pattern. Now this tire and wheel assembly is designed for use on duallies, buses and trailers. The wheel offset, as you can see, this allows the assembly to be used as either an inner or an outer wheel of a dual wheel setup. This is a heavy-duty steel wheel. It has the two hand holds and the hand holds are right here. There's one and there's one right over here where the valve stem is.

It's very sturdy and corrosion resistant. Now the wheel itself goes through a three-step finishing process which will first include a zinc phosphate bath, then an eco primer and then they do a white powder coat on both sides of the wheel. Now the center disk on this wheel is spun formed from fine grained steel. It's welded into place for strength and durability. This wheel is a stud-piloted wheel and you can look at it and see that it does have a bevel on the lug holes and that will signify that it is a stud-piloted wheel. It does require the use of inner and outer lug nuts.

We do sell those separately, if needed, on our website. Now this is a radial tire that's mounted on the wheel. This radial tire is constructed with double steel belts, double polyester cords for a long life. It's great for highway use. They do use a nylon tread-forming belt overlay to help prevent tread separation. The tire is also stamped regroovable.

If you look around, it says regroovable here. That means it can be regrooved for additional mileage but I would make sure that you check with your local authorities because federal and state laws will apply. This tire is bake-tested to make ensure that the rubber will hold up over time. This whole wheel and tire assembly does meet the Department of Transportation specifications and it will exceed federal motor vehicle safety standards. The specs on this: The wheel itself, the diameter which is inside to inside on this is 17-1/2 inches. The width on just the wheel is 6-3/4 inches.

The bolt pattern, which you can see here is going to be 10 lug holes on 8-3/4 inches, and the 8-3/4 inches would be if you measure from the center of one hole directly across to the center of the other. That will give you your bolt pattern of 10 on 8-3/4 inches. The weight capacity on just the wheel is 6,506 lbs. Pilot hole diameter . It's the large hole here in the center of the wheel that goes over the hub on your trailer. The diameter of that is 6.46. Now the offset on this, again, is positive or negative, depending on if you use it as an inner or outer wheel, but it's 6.1 inches. The tire size, which will be stamped on the tire . We'll find it right here. It's 235/75 R 17.5. The R designates that it is a radial design tire. The section width on this is 9.2 inches. Overall diameter from the very bottom to the top is 31.4 inches. Now this tire is a load range J, which means it's a 18 ply rated tire so the maximum load capacity on this one, using a dual tire application, is 5,675 lbs. at 120 psi. Tread depth on this tire is a very deep 17/32nds and the last thing I do want to mention is that these tires now are all coming speed rated. If you look right where the size is, right after it, you'll see a block and it will have two numbers, which are the load index. Right after it, it will have a J. Speed rating is always a letter so speed rating J will be 62 mph. That should do it for the review on the Provider 235/75 R 17.5 Radial tire in a load range J on a 17.5 white dual wheel with the 10 on 8/34-inch bolt pattern.

Review from a similar Taskmaster Provider White Dual in Tires and Wheels

Tire and wheel combo fit perfect. Workmanship on the wheel was better than the factory wheel I was replacing. The tire looks to be a heavy duty tire but only time will tell. This tire and wheel combo was installed on a 2017 Trailmax TD40T Tilt Trailer. etrailer has a lot of great info and there prices where the best I could find. The best part was that the tire wheel combo showed up in 2 days, that is some quick shipping. 451657
