Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I was a little disappointed that the tires were not balanced. I expected tires that were on rims would be balanced which meant an extra trip for me to get that done 667215

The manufacturer mounts, but does not balance the tires.

Ordered the tires on a Sunday night and even with regular shipping they were at my house Tuesday. I bought them to replace a pair of trailer tires purchased locally- nearly identical price, but both the tires and the wheels are of MUCH higher quality materials. I was emailed the next day to make sure the order had arrived and that I was satisfied with everything. Customer service has been great- will definitely use etrailer again! 540015

Tires were great, but not much for the rims. Very dissatisfied with the rim quality, it was all scratched and seems that it was spray painted. I know galvanized rims should not look nice and shiny but should no look like its a 5 years old. I wish I took pictures to post but I already installed and used several times because trailer had no tires, and its too late to ask for refund. I have been shopping Etrailer for several years and this is my first disappointment in your product. 252956

Excellent product: I have replaced 4 tires and wheels on my boat trailer with these tire assemblies. Galvanized wheels provide corrosion protection in both fresh and salt water. The tires meet OEM Quality that came on my Karavan trailer when it was new. My order was filled and shipped in a swift manner. Costumer Service like it should be; they truly care about customer satisfaction. I will buy more of these eventually, and will tell my friends about the great product and service, and follow up. I purchased 2- 185 80 r 13 Load range D tires and wheel package. Tires I cannot rate yet but had descent review's elsewhere online. Cant find many tires that arent made in China! The first thing that gave me pause was the tires were rated over 1700 lbs as i opted for load range D tire but the wheel or rim was only rated for 1660lbs. So the tire can handle more than the wheel it's on! :( The wheels are cheap...I bought the galvanized 13" wagon wheels, read other reviews on the wheels where it was mentioned that they took lots of weight to get them balanced...so much so in my case my mechanic had to put weights on both the inside and outside of the wheel to get them balanced. I don't care so much as long as they indeed holdup to the 1660lb rating. They were inexpensive and since I don't make a living with this trailer, it will suffice. If I did use it for a job day in and out...I would have spent more to begin with. 350890

Exactly what I wanted. 2 new tires and rims for my 2014 Yamaha SX190 boat trailer. Had the tires balanced at the local tire shop we use for our cars real cheap ??. One was "typical" out of balance the other was more so. I won't complain. They are now balanced. I'm using the old ones as spares since this trailer doesn't have spares. Good to know my F150 jack and wrench work perfectly on the trailer so no extras needed. I will definitely use etrailer again if the need arises. They are great. 270047

  • Why is Trailer Tire Wearing on the Inside Only?
A wider tire will not solve the issue of your tires wearing down on the inside only. If your trailer tire is wearing on the inside but is not overloaded and your suspension is aligned properly the only other issue that can be causing this is the tires not being inflated to their max psi consistently. On trailer tires you always want to inflate the tire to the maximum cold psi, which will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear more slowly and give you optimum gas mileage....

  • Are Wheel/Tire Assemblies Pre-Balanced
Most wheel wheel/tire assemblies come pre-balanced to an extent that is suitable for use on non-steer axles. This is done by matching the light spot on the tire (yellow dot) with the heavy spot on the wheel (valve stem). However, if you would like for the assmelby to be balanced down to the 1/4 oz then you would need to take it to a wheel/tire shop but this is not really needed for trailers.

To go from a 5.30-12 tire to a 185/80-13 tire size will require a bit more clearance so you'd need to check first. The 13 inch size will be right at 2-1/2 inches taller in overall diameter. As long as you then have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you could install a wheel and tire like the part # AM3S334 which would work well. The width of the tire would be right at 2 inches wider too.

I spoke with my trailer tire and wheel expert and he stated that the pilot hole diameter is not an issue with a trailer wheel of this size. You can use a wheel with a pilot diameter between 2-1/2 to 4 inches. The reason is that the wheels this size are stud piloted and not hub piloted meaning that they do not rely on the hub to center the wheel. So for 13 inch wheel and tire with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you can use Loadstar, # AM3S331, # AM3S334, or # AM3S339.

It is not recommended to tow a trailer that has two different tire types on it. It will affect the handling and ride of the trailer since radial tires track better. This is do to differences in manufacturing processes, tread type and wear, and amount of air pressure in the tires. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire.
