Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Video Transcript for Review of Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - AM3H490

Today we're gonna take a look at the Kenda 205 65 by 10 Biased Trailer Tire, in a load range E. On this ten inch galvanized steel wheel, with the five on four and half inch bolt pattern. The Kenda Load Start Trailer Tire offers excellent handling, it is a biased design tire which provides superior stability. They do use a nice modern tread on it to help reduce rolling resistance for a nice smooth ride. The wheel they mount this on is a steel wheel, which is galvanized for superior corrosion resistance. A galvanized finished wheels are usually used in marine applications.

This tire and wheel assembly does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation's specifications.A few specs on this, the diameter of the wheel is gonna be ten inches, and that's always measured inside the inside or bead seat to bead seat. The width on just the wheel is six inches wide, bolt pattern on this wheel is five on four and a half inch bolt pattern. If you wanna measure that on a wheel, if it's an odd number of lugs which is five lugs you just pick anyone of the holes. Let's say this one, then you'll measure across from the center of this hole to either one of these holes that you measure from the center of the starting hole to the furthest edge of the hole that you measure to. On this wheel it's gonna measure four and a half inches, so five lug four and a half inch bolt pattern.

Weight capacity on just the wheel is 1650 pounds. It does use a wheel lug size of a half inch by 20. The pilot hole diameter which is the large hole in the center of the wheel goes over the hub on your trailer. The diameter of that opening is 2.8 inches. Now the tire size, which is stamped on the side wall, 20565-10. The section width on this tire is gonna be right at 8.4 inches.

Overall diameter from the bottom to the very top when it's inflated is 20.4. This tire is a load range e, which means it's a ten ply rated tire. It does have a maximum load capacity of 1650 pounds at 90 psi. The last thing I do wanna mention is most all the new trailer tires are coming through with a speed rating. A speed rating they stamp on a tire is always designated by a letter, and where you find that is here where it shows all your load range information.

You'll notice at the very beginning there's a 98 and then an N. The 98 is load index, and then the letter N is the speed rating. So speed rating N will mean this is tested at 87 miles per hour. That should do it for the review on the Kenda 205 65 by 10 Biased Trailer Tire in a load range e. On a ten inch, galvanized steel wheel with the five by four and a half inch bolt pattern.

Blew a boat trailer tire on the way home 2 days ago. Shocked as the trailer is 3 years old and has less than 1000 miles on it. Looked at prices locally to replace one and was disappointed on the wait time /price etc. Checked on line with etrailer and price to order 2 with rims was a lot cheaper for sure. Ordered them and received them in 2 days. Packaged very secure and professionally. “WOW”. Spoke with customer service on a question I had and received 3 emails back in less than a hour. This company is a class act.. Start to Finish. Will be buying more items from them. Nice to find a-company that really does care.. 703589

Before I get to the bad, I would like to point out that mistakes do happen. I received 2 wheel assemblies. One was flat, BAD. The Good... when I brought this to e-trailers attention they immediately sent me a new one. Then they gladly provided a UPS return tag for "FREE RETURN SHIPMENT" back to them. Every company can have a problem; it's how they handle it that makes them good. I only gave the tire a 2 out of 5. E-trailer gets a 5 out of 5. 111575

After a year I have had no trouble with my new tires. e-Trailers customer service is second to NONE! I will always look to them first in the future... and their prices are very competitive. Win - Win! They still get a 5 out of 5 in my book.

These tires look great and on my short road test of 20 miles that seemed to function very well. I will try to update after I finish my 1500 mile roadtrip with these tires later in November. 106282

I just finished a 2 week road trip through AL, GA, and FL towing my 20 foot pontoon boat. After 1800 miles with these tires, they performed great. They look like new still. I kept my speed between 60 and 65 for most of the trip.

The tires worked great for our really long roadtrip last November. About 1800 miles on that trip. Since then weve not used the trailer, so I cant really give any further update. I like the tires and would probably buy them again down the road.

The etrailer.com website was easy to use and the video explaining the technical specifications of the various tires and wheels was extremely helpful. My Kenda 205/65-10 tire and wheel combination is exactly what I was looking for. It will be used as a spare for my Triton snowmobile trailer during the winter and I will carry it on the trailer of my pontoon boat during the summer as a spare for the boat trailer. 242245

This is the second of these I bought. I bought the first about two years ago and it appears to be holding up to my light use perfectly. These went on a trailer I bought from the dealer and the trailer had these on it when I bought it. Those tires were made around 2002. This leads me to believe that these tires are a good choice for the dealer as well. 48616

This will be the third set of these tires that I have purchased over the years. They have provided a good service life on my SXS trailer. On my last trip I destroyed a tire after picking up a nail while on the freeway. I was about 250 miles from home and was at the start of a 4 day trip. I was in Yuma and none of the tire stores had a replacement. Not wanting to continue the trip without a spare I contacted E Trailer. I spoke with Nick, and he walked the order thru and I had replacement tires in three days as promised. Once again. great service at a reasonable price. 583670

Initially, I inflated the tires to 90 psi. At 40 mph I felt a vibration. Called etrailer and ended up speaking with Ricky who was extremely helpful in solving my problem. His suggestion of lowering the tire pressure to 75 psi and having the tires balanced have solved the problem. Tire balancing was relatively cheap ($10/tire). In the end a very satisfied customer. Thanks! 717542

Product stated a kendra tire, but the delievered product is Loadstar 715544

Comments

The Loadstar tire is just one of many different tire styles made by Kenda. I pulled one of these tires and wheels from our warehouse and confirmed they do not put the Kenda name on the tire. The Loadstar tire line is Kendas Bias Ply Trailer Tire, while their Radial Trailer Tire is called the Karrier.

PURCHASED FOR USE ON SNOWMOBILE TRAILER. FIRST TIME USING ETRAILER, WAS ORIGINALLY ON [different online retailer], BUT BAD REVIEWS ABOUT FALSE ADVERTISING LED ME ELSEWHERE AND EVENTUALLY HERE. EVEN THOUGH THESE TIRES WERE A BIT MORE EXPENSIVE ([XX] EA), I TOOK A CHANCE WITH ETRAILER AND WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. TIRES ARE IN FACT THE LOADSTAR AS ADVERTISED (DOES NOT SAY KENDA THOUGH...) FREE SHIPPING, GOOD PACKAGING, NO DAMAGE. TIRES APPEAR TO HAVE NO DEFECTS. TOO SOON TO TELL IF THEY ARE GOOD QUALITY. TIME AND MILES WILL TELL. NOT SURE IF I WOULD BITE AT CURRENT PRICE OF [XXX]...DEPENDS ON HOW LONG THEY LAST. 715458

  • How To Measure A Trailer Spindle To Find Replacement Hubs And Bearings
  • To make sure you find the right replacement hubs you can do a couple of things. First check out the bearing and see if you can find the numbers for the bearings either etched or stamped on the side of the bearing. If you can not find the numbers you will need to measure the spindle. I have attached a drawing that shows where you need to measure the spindle to find the right replacements. The drawing also shows where to measure for a seal as well. You will also need to measure the inside...

The 205/65-10 tire size is considered a direct replacement for the 20.5 x 8 x 10 tire. To calculate the revolutions that any tire will make in a given distance you need to do some calculations. First, calculate the number of inches in the distance that the tire will be required to roll. In this case 63,360 inches makes 1 mile. Next, calculate the circumference by multiplying...

  • Recommended Tires and Wheels for 20.5x8-10 Galvanized with Load Range E
  • I believe these Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E are what you are looking for. They are part # AM3H490. The pilot hole is 2.8", so I hope you have a little wiggle room there. Trailer tires are lug centric, so as long as the wheel will fit over the hub bore, then it will center off the lugs. There is no offset on this wheel.

  • Smallest Tire Available with Capacity Greater Than 1600 lbs for Pontoon Boat Trailer
  • If you compare two tires of the same manufacturer and tire size, load range B tires should all have the same capacity, same for load range C or D. A 205/65-10 tire like part # AM1HP56 has a 1650 lb capacity at 90 psi. Two tires would give you a 3300 lb capacity. Wheel/tire combos are also available. For a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, use part # AM3H470 or for a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, use part # AM3H490. To get a higher capacity than that, you'd need to go with a larger tire like a 215/75-14,...

  • Speed Rating of the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire and Wheel # AM3H490
  • The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire # AM3H490 that you referenced has the standard trailer tire speed rating of 65 miles per hour. There are some trailer tires that have higher speed ratings, but none of them are in the 10 inch rim size since that is a smaller size.

  • Can I Upgrade 18.5 Wheels to 20 Inch Wheels On 8x12 Triton Sled Trailer
  • There are three issues you will need to be aware of when changing wheel and tires on your 8x12 aluminum trailer. First, you will need to make sure the wheel and tires you upgrade to will be able to handle the weight capacity of your trailer. Second, you will need to make sure you have clearance. And finally, you want to make for certain what the bolt pattern is on your trailer. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire w/ Wheel, part # AM3H490, has a 1,650 lb load capacity at 90 PSI. You...

  • Is It Possible to Upgrade my Pontoon Trailer Tires and Wheels From 10-Inch 5 on 4-1/2 to 14-Inch
  • You may be able to increase your tire and wheel size, but your biggest concern will be the fender and sidewall clearance and axle spacing if you have tandem axles on your pontoon trailer. For example, on a 10 inch tire and wheel like the Kenda # AM3H490 is size 205/65-10, section width 8.4 inches, and outer diameter when inflated 20.4 inches. When increasing to a 14-inch tire like the Kenda Karrier # AM32153 (ST205/75R14 and section width 8.1 inches and out diameter when inflated 26.3...

  • New Trailer Tires to Replace 20.5x10-8 Tires on a Performance Boat Trailer
  • For your trailer you can use 205/65-10 tires. For a load range E in this size you can use # AM1HP56. It is rated for 1,650 pounds at 90 psi. If you want to go with a load range D you can use # AM1HP54. It is rated for 1,330 pounds at 70 psi. I have included links to videos on both tires for you.

  • Tire Speed Rating for the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10
  • Recently Kenda came out and changed the speed ratings on several of their tires. Whatever speed rating is listed on the tire is the correct rating. If no particular listing then rated for 65 mph. This is not a rating we came up with and is what Kenda tested and gave us.

  • Spare Tire Recommendation for a Dual Jet Ski Trailer with 205 x 65 x 10 Load Range E Tires
  • My recommendation is to stay with the load range that your trailers axle is rated for and that matches the tires on your trailer. In this case a load range E trailer tire, like item # AM3H490, is rated for 1,650 lbs, which would be good for a single axle trailer with a 3,000 to 3,300 lb axle. If the Axle on your trailer is rated lower, 2,200 pounds or less then going with a load range C tire for a spare would be just fine, but having a load range E tire on the opposite side could cause...

  • Is a Bias Ply Tire Suitable for Use on a Tandem Axle Trailer
  • The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 Inch Galvanized Wheel # AM3H490 will work well on a tandem axle trailer. The bias ply construction of the tire does not have a correlation to the number of axles on the trailer. A bias or radial trailer tire can be used on a tandem axle trailer. As long as the existing tires on your trailer are 205/65-10 size tires and the wheels are 10 inch wheels with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern, the Kenda # AM3H490 tire and wheel combo will work...

  • Can a 8 inch Trailer Rim and Tire get Replaced by a 10 inch Rim and Tire
  • When going to a larger trailer tire size the biggest concern will be that you have enough clearance above the tire for additional height. The height difference between the two sizes you have would be a little over 2 inches so you would have 1 inch less of clearance above the tire with the larger 10 inch rim. From the pictures you submitted I can see you have a 5 bolt pattern which would indicate that you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern so a rim and tire like part # AM3H490 would...

  • Recommended Tire for a 20-Foot Pontoon Boat Trailer Traveling Down the Highway
  • Sorry to hear your tire heated up and came apart. Special trailer tires are typically rated to operate at a maximum speed of 65 mph and should always be inflated to their maximum air pressure stated on the tire. I would certainly go with a radial tire over bias because radials run cooler and flexes more giving it better contact with the road. I included a link to all the radial tires we currently offer and if you provide me your tire size I would be more than happy to make a recommendation. Take...

  • The smallest wheel diameter we offer that is for hubs that have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern is 10 inches. The smallest tire size then would be the 205/65-10 that measures 20.5 inches like the part # AM3H490.
