Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

The customer service at etrailer has been excellent. I have bought lots of auto tires in my life and know exactly what to get, but have never purchased a trailer tire. Etrailer representatives, namely, (H?)Ellen, Sherry and Tommy patiently dealt with and guided me through what I needed to know in buying trailer tires, such as size and load capacity (I needed an "E"). We had a technical problem that was nobody's fault, but they promptly straightened it out. The tires arrived two days after I ordered them and I did not pay for special shipping. I intend to do business with them again when I replace the tires on my other trailer. Minnesota 303269

The 5 stars are for etrailer.com. Not only did they have my wheels, but they got them to me on time as promised. As for the product, I'm not yet sure of their quality. The tires came on a car tow dolly and after just 12000 miles and I'm replacing them both. They require 90 lbs of pressure and one was under inflated when I got it(. I didn't check it, I assumed it was inflated properly. It didn't ware well needless to say. The other lost a piece of the tread about 2 inches square. Can't fix it, can't trust it, have to replace it. I don't remember hitting anything. Will update when I've put more miles on them at the proper inflation. 411173

So far so good. I havent put as many miles on them but they are holding up well. I keep them properly inflated and when I store the tow dolly, I bought wheel covers to keep them out of the sun.

The "E" rated tires arrived on time and are top quality from what I can see so far. The rims for these tires are also beefed up to match the tires and are much better than the "C" rated that they are replacing. I needed the tires as soon as possible and these were in stock so I went with the better tire to get them quicker for an upcoming ATV trip. I think it was worth the cost to upgrade for piece of mind and I'm sure they will last longer. They take 90psi to fill so you need a good compressor to fill them up. I would use Etrailer to purchase tires in the future for my other trailers. 575613

had the tires for a year now and they are working great. seem to handle the weight of the pontoon boat without any problems. I store the pontoon on the trailer year round but barely trailer it more then a few miles per year. they are holding up great so far

So far I am impressed with these tires, my boat trailer is at right at (a little over with fuel) their max weight rating but they seem to shrug it off with no sidewall flex at max psi like my previous bargain load E set had, I always carried two spares. My next step is to convert to tandem but by the looks of things these might be just what I needed. They are tougher than I expected and the price is hard to beat. There are cheaper options out there but I learned the hard way you get what you pay for. 259391

Tire and rim looks great, I lost my spare the very first trip out and decided to wright it off rather then call the local PD, as I was afraid of a healthy ticket for unsecured load..... Now I need to check clearance once a vehicle is loaded on my toe dolly and set-up a better storage for it. 175368

The 205/65-10/lKenda Loadstar white steel wheel/tire combo (item AM3H480) is the upgrade I needed for my 4' x 7' trailer. I can now run highway speeds without fear of tire failure. Speed rated at 87 mph, it takes away the stress out of long distance travel. It's overkill for my little trailer's weight rating requirements, but I don't want any failures at speed when I have my Harley or ATV in tow. Better to be safe than sorry. I recommend this wheel and tire combo for durability, weight and speed rating, and good, simple, clean looks. 698790

Called etrailer on August 3rd and spoke with Greg S. in Customer Service. Greg was very helpful in helping me choose the correct tire to fit my utility trailer. I received my tires August 7th. I removed the "skinny" tires that normally come with a small utility trailer and put on a road tire, so I can haul kayaks and camping gear on the highway. A very informative online video is provided, featuring each of their tires. AM3H480 is a great looking tire and I expect to get years of use from this product. 682490

Shipped and delivered quickly. Great packaging. It would be helpful if customer service had more information on trailer tire speed ratings. I was told same tire on white painted wheel had a 87mph rating and on a galvanized wheel had a 65mph rating. Both wheel had the same load rating. Customer service contacted manufacturers but no answer as to why the difference. 607817

Comments

When we originally began carrying these trailer wheel/tire combos, the tire manufacturers did not speed rate them. They made a blanket statement saying that all trailer tires are rated at 65mph. Since then, they have actually done the testing to establish speed ratings for the tires and somehow the # AM3H490, the galvanized version of this wheel/tire combo missed having its product description updated. Were in the process of updating the information so the incorrect listing will be corrected soon.

Ask the Experts about this Kenda Tires and Wheels

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Recommendation to Replace 20.5X8.0X10 Tires on Boat Trailer
  • Based on my research, the 20.5x8-10 tires on your trailer are equivalent to the 205/65-10 sized tires. For this size, I recommend the Kenda Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56. This bias ply tire has a maximum load of 1,650 pounds at 90 psi and a maximum speed rating of 87 mph. It also includes a limited 2-year warranty. If you need a tire and wheel combo, I recommend the Kenda Bias Trailer Tire with 10 Inch White Wheel # AM3H480 if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern or...

  • Troubleshooting Ground Clearance of 1996 Jayco Jay Series 1206

It looks like a really tight fit from your picture so it most likely wouldn't fit but the next larger size would be a 5.30-12 which will take up an additional 3/4 of an inch of wheel clearance. If you have a 4 lug bolt pattern you could use the part # AM30780 or if you have a 5 lug part # AT53012R45WM. Looking at your picture it looks like your trailer...

  • High Speed Rated Trailer Tire in Size 205/65-10

It's unfortunate but most people aren't aware that the vast majority of trailer tires are only rated for 65 miles per hour. Exceeding that causes heat build up which makes the tire more likely to fail. The Kenda tire and wheel part # AM3H480 that you referenced has an unusually high speed rating of 87 miles per hour. • The tire size 205/65-10 is a suitable replacement for the old tire size 20.5x8-10. I have not heard of a 20.5x8-10 tire mounted on an 8 inch wide rim. Your actual rim width should be 6 inches and the tire itself should be 8 inches wide. A 205/65-10 tire will only mount on a 6 inch wide wheel. There are a few things that you will need to consider before replacing the tires and wheels on your old camper. First, we need to determine the weight capacity of your axle or the gross trailer...

  • Replacement Parts for Camper Converted to Utility Trailer
  • Your size 20.5x8-10 tire is the old way of expressing tire sizing. Tire sizing has since been converted to metric and the equivalent tire size to your existing tire is 205/65-10, which really isn't uncommon. The Kenda # AM3H460 would work for your trailer and has a load range E capacity of 1,650 lbs. at 90 psi. There really isn't an advantage going to a 5 lug hub. The maximum load range for your current tire size is E. The next larger sized tire that will give you the option of an...

  • Next Taller Trailer Tire Size than 18.5x8.5-8
  • For your 8 inch trailer tire size of 18.5x8.5-8 which is 18.3 inches in diameter the next taller size will require you to go to a larger wheel diameter since that's the biggest 8 inch wheel size. The next size up will be a 10 inch trailer wheel size 205/65-10 like the part # AM3H480 which has a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern, or part # AM3H460 which has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. This tire size has an outer diameter of 20.4 inches.

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire Combo for a 20.5 x 8 - 10 Wheel and Tire on a Motorcycle Trailer
  • The wheel in your existing 20.5 x 8 - 10 wheel and tire combination is a 10 inch wheel with a 20.5 inch diameter and 8 inch wide tire, see link. This size is comparable to the metric size 205/65-10 trailer tire and wheel combination like the 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch White Wheel, # AM3H370. You will need to determine the trailers gross axle weight rating or the gross trailer weight of your trailer, loaded and ready to travel, to select the correct load range tire. In...

  • Replacement Spare Tire and Wheel and Tires Only for an ATV Trailer with 3500 lbs. Axle
  • When selecting a spare tire for your trailer it would be best to select a tire and wheel combination and mount it to the trailer so it will be ready and with you in the unfortunate event of a tire failure. Most 5 lug trailer wheels have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10 inch White Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range E, item # AM3H480, would be a good choice for a for a spare wheel and tire combination. To determine the correct bolt pattern for your...

  • Trailer Tires and Wheels for a 1995 Jayco Tent Trailer with 20.5 x 10 Tires
  • The 205/65-10 tires are going to be the best bet. If your existing tires are 8 inches wide, then the 205/65 will be ideal. For this tire size, we have tires mounted on wheels with 2 different bolt patterns; 4 on 4 and 5 on 4-1/2. I have included a link to an FAQ article that shows how to measure for bolt pattern. If you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and want a white steel wheel, we have # AM3H460. If you have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern and want a white steel wheel, we have # AM3H480.

  • Availability of 205/65-10 Wheel/Tire Combination
  • We do offer a 205/65-10 Load Range E tire mounted on a 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern wheel, part # AM3H480 for a white powder coated steel wheel or # AM3H490 for a galvanized steel wheel. We don't carry any 10 inch aluminum wheels, nor do any of the wheel/tire combos we offer come with an aluminum wheel.

  • Can a 5.30-12 Tire and Wheel be Replaced by a 205/65-10 Tire and Wheel
  • As long as the 205/65-10 tire and wheel combo will offer you enough weight capacity for your trailer and you have the clearance for the additional width, you can certainly use 205/65-10 size tires in place of your existing 5.30-12 size tires. Since some of the 205/65-10 tires offer a higher weight capacity than the 5.30-12 tires, the weight capacity isn't an issue for your set-up. The 205/65-10 tire you referenced, # AM3H480, has a Load Range E rating, with a maximum load of 1,650...

  • Do Trailer Tire and Wheel Combos Come Already Balanced
  • On the tire and wheel combos that we carry, such as # AM3H480, the manufacturer tries to offset the heavy spot on the wheel with the light spot on the tire for balancing. It takes a special rig to balance trailer tires and wheels that most tire shops do not have access to. This is due in part to how much wheels have changed over the years. The current machines cannot hold trailer wheels properly to ensure they are balanced. Another factor is that trailer wheels do not have to be...

  • Recommended Replacement Wheels For 10" x 8" Wide Trailer Tires With 5 On 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
  • I do not have a wheel with these exact measurements. I do have tire and wheel combinations that are 10 inch diameter x 6 inch wide with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. A link to selections available attached. The closest we have is the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with White Wheel Item # AM3H480. It is a bias tire that has maximum capacity of 1,650 lbs at 90 psi. The tire is mounted on wheel Item # AM20046 which is 6 inches wide. I have linked a video of the wheel that shows...

  • What Tire Pressure Should Trailer Tires be Inflated To
  • The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire # AM3H480 that you referenced should be inflated to 90 psi. Trailer tires should always be inflated to their maximum psi listed on the side of the tire. At the maximum air pressure, the tires will perform and wear best, and get the best gas mileage. If a trailer tire is inflated to a lower air pressure than the maximum, the amount of weight that the tire can carry will be reduced. If a heavier load is put on the trailer tire than what is recommended...

  • Changing Boat Trailer Tires from 20.5x8x10 to 175/80-13 Size
  • Your current 20.5x8x10 size trailer tires have an overall diameter of just over 20-inches. The modern metric designation for this size is 205/65-10, an example of which is # AM3H490. The tire size you want to switch to, 175/80-13, has an overall diameter of 24-inches. This size tire will not give you enough clearance. At minimum you want the current 4-inches of tire-to-fender clearance to allow for suspension travel. Also these two tire sizes do not fit the same wheel size. A 20.5x8x10...

  • What is Smallest Trailer Tire Size with Minimum 1,500 lb Capacity Per Tire
  • You'd have to go with a next larger trailer tire size of 205/65-10 to get at least a capacity of 1,500 lb per tire. For that we have the part # AM3H480 for if you need a 5 lug bolt pattern or # AM3H460 for if you have a 4 lug bolt pattern. The overall size of this will be 8.4 inches wide and 20.4 inches in diameter. This will be noticeable larger than what you have so you'll want to measure first for clearance.
