Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Bought a used Big Tex CH60 trailer last fall to haul my J.D. Tractor. Came without a spare wheel and tire. This is a perfect match to what's on the trailer. Same spoke pattern and paint. Got it in about a week. Very pleased! - Thanks! 79444

I was skeptical at first that this wheel would fit my trailer. I followed the direction and measured the lug holes but was still not 100% sure. As soon as it was delivered I put the wheel on my trailer and it was a perfect fit. Thank you etrailer. 35497

Great tire. Unfortunately etrailer does not offer balancing so... Upon receipt I broke the beads, placed 3 oz of airsoft pellets inside, re-inflated, installed, and conducted a road test. Smooth as silk! very happy with this tire & wheel combo. 489499

Comments

The tire and wheel combos we carry like # AM32409 are not machine balanced. What our tire manufacturers will do is line up the light spot on the tire with the heavy spot on the wheel. This is a type of balancing but not like how car tires are balanced with weights on a balancing machine. In most cases, this is sufficient for a good ride. Since trailers dont have a steering axle, its much less important for a trailers tires to be perfectly balanced.

I purchased this tire for a spare for my new utility trailer. This is a Karrier / Load Star tire. I have had theses before on my boat trailer and have had good service from them. The trailer dealer wanted $150 plus tax for a spare with a name I’ve never heard of. I saved over $50! Excellent price, super-fast free shipping and no sales tax! What a deal! Etrailer is a great seller to purchase from. 472868

Not only did they not have what I needed, they told me that I must be mistaken, they said there was no such thing as a 5 on 5 trailer rim! Well I went online found etrailer and ordered what I needed, three days later it was here! Awesome company, user friendly web site. You cant go wrong with etrailer!!! 76935

Review from a similar Kenda Karrier Steel in Tires and Wheels

I am sure the tire and wheel will function fine after these go to a tire shop to be balanced. I was a bit upset to unpack these to find that they had no weights on the rim which tells me they are not balanced. One other thing that I am not happy about is the finish on the wheel. Very sharp jagged edges around bolt holes and cutouts. They did not take pride in the finish of the wheel before the galvanizing process either which is very blotchy and far from a smooth. I am half tempted to return the product for these reasons. Will sleep on it and make decision tomorrow. Shipping was fast, and the tires are nice 681505

Comments

Trailer tires are not generally balanced with wheel weights like automobile tires and wheels are balanced. Typically the tires and wheels are mounted so that the high spot on the tire is aligned with the low spot on the wheel.

This load star tire and wheel is an exact replacement for another that was performing very well on our boat trailer until something on the road put a hole in it. The whole assembly with free shipping was cheaper than just a tire and mounting. Makes for an easy decision and no reason to think this one won't be just as good as the one it replaces. 653340

The 3 tires came well packaged. I took them to a Firestone store for balancing and one didn't require any weight. I up-sized from 13" wheels to these 14" wheels and they fit well on my camper. One of the reasons I bought these from etrailer was the customer service I had received in the past. 479941

Review from a similar Kenda Karrier Steel in Tires and Wheels

I finally replaced the long overdue to get scrapped OEM tires on my 7'x14' V-Nose, enclosed trailer. etrailer made the process super easy. I was able to obtain the size from the old tires and also from the manufacturer's label on the trailer itself. Then the hard part, or so I thought. Measuring the lug pattern. etrailer made that super easy with its idiot-proof measuring diagram and instructions. Also easy, the etrailer website. I found a pair of the tires I was looking for, already mounted to wheels and at a fair price. Each of the wheels/tires were packaged safe, secure and arrived super fast! If you're in need of anything trailer related, you'll be doing yourself a disservice shopping elsewhere! Thanks etrailer, I will be back for sure!!! 614116

Ask the Experts about this Kenda Tires and Wheels

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Which Timbren Axle-Less Suspension System for On and Off Road Trailer?
  • Great question. The standard 2K system # ASR2KHDS01 is for standard highway driving only. The Heavy-Duty 2K system # ASR2KHDS02 will be compatible with wider tires for more of the combination use you are seeking. The # ASR1THDS01 listed for Off-Road Tires has suspension that is more robust for up to 2,200 lbs and has a longer arm for a smoother ride over a rougher terrain. For your application, I recommend # ASR2KHDS02. It will handle better for your fair bit of highway driving...

  • Replacement 15 Inch Trailer Wheels with 5 on 5 Inch Bolt Pattern and ST205/75R13 Tires
  • An ST205/75R15 will fit on rim widths measuring 5, 5-1/2, 6, or 6-1/2 inches. For that tire size already mounted on a steel wheel with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern take a look at # AM32409. I have also included a link to all of the wheels and tire/wheel combos that feature the 5 on 5 bolt pattern and can accept or has the ST205/75-15 tire.

  • 13 Inch Trailer Tires for a Tandem Axle Boat Trailer and 2,600 Pound Boat
  • For your boat trailer with 13 inch wheels I recommend Taskmaster radial tire # TTWTRTM1758013C which is a load range C rated for 1,360 pounds at 50 psi. Since you have tandem axles you will have 4 tires for a total capacity of 5,440 pounds. Radial tires like this one run cooler and track better than bias ply tires. This tire also has a speed rating of 81 miles per hour. I have linked a video review of this tire for you.

  • Can a Load Range E Trailer Tire be Used in Place of a Load Range D Trailer Tire
  • Different size and bolt pattern wheels that take the same tire size will have different psi ratings. If your existing wheels are rated for 65 psi then it is less likely that they would also be rated for 80 psi which is what an ST225/75-15 load range E tire requires. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. The person you spoke with must not have known about the difference between trailer tires and passenger vehicle tires. Trailer tires are...

  • Radial or Bias Ply Trailer Tire for Off Road Use
  • Bias ply tires do have a stiffer sidewall that is commonly preferred in off road applications. Normally I recommend a radial over a bias-ply since most of what we sell is for on road applications, but for you a bias-ply would be better. I will say that nothing we offer is designed for the rigors of the Baja course. All I can recommend is what would be your best option that we offer. • You may be able to still use a 225/75-15 tire but use a higher load range. The highest we have in that size is a load range E rated for 2,830 pounds at 80 psi, # AM10303. Four of these on a tandem axle trailer would have a capacity of 11,320 pounds combined. It is essential that the trailer tires always be inflated to the maximum psi rating indicated on the tire. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall to handle more vertical load compared to passenger vehicle...

  • Can an ST205/75-15 Trailer Tire Be Replaced with a 225/75-15 Tire Size
  • A load range D tire in the 205/75-15 size is not available. You would have to go up in size in order to get a load range D tire. Your existing tires have a width of 7.7 to 8.1 inches and a diameter of 27.4 inches. They fit on 15 by 5-1/2 inch wheels. The next closest size with a load range D tire is 225/75-15. These tires range in width from 8.4 inches to 8.9 inches and could have a diameter between 28.1 and 28.4 inches. They fit on 15 inch by 6 inch rims so new rims would be required....

  • Can a ST225/75D15 Trailer Tire be Swapped out for a ST225/75R15
  • The difference between the ST225/75D15 and the ST225/75R15 is the way the tire is constructed. The D in the ST225/75D15 size means that it is a bias-ply tire whereas the R in the ST225/75R15 means that it is a radial tire. Radial tires are preferred because the tire has more flex and will allow for more ground contact. That will improve traction and better tread wear. It also gives the radial tire better stability. Radials will also run cooler. So long story short, you could swap...

  • The spare tire you have that is a 205/75-15 has a diameter of 27.10 inches. The 225/75-15 tires on your trailer have a diameter of 28.28 inches so they are a little over an inch bigger diameter. It is not recommend to mix different size tires on a trailer because the tires could overheat causing tire failure. If using this as a spare tire, if you need to use it I recommend only using it until you can get to a shop that can replace it with a tire that matches the other tires on the...

  • Boat Trailer Tires Are Only Showing Tread Wear on the Outsides
  • Trailer axles usually have a bow in them at the center so the center of the axle is closer to the bottom of the frame than the ends. This causes the tires to camber in at the bottoms (positive camber). When a load is placed on the trailer that bow flattens out and the tires straighten. If the load is not heavy enough then it will not cause the axle to flatten out and the tires will still have a positive camber causing wear on just the outside tread. Going to a wider tire would not solve...

  • Tread Wear on Just the Outer Tread of ST225/75-15R Tires on a Jayco Trailer
  • Tire wear just on the outer tread of the tires can indicate that the load on the trailer is too light to fully straighten out the axle. Trailer axles have a bow in them and when weight is put on them they will straighten out. Switching to higher capacity tires will not solve the issue. If it is happening just on one side then the issue could be a worn suspension component and you would want to check the suspension for wear and tear and replace parts as needed. If you did want to go...

  • Replacement Trailer Tires for a 3,880 Pound Travel Trailer with Under Rated Tires Installed
  • Just about every tire manufacturer has moved operations over seas so finding a trailer tire made in the USA would be very difficult. For tire size 205/75-14 you can use # AM10234. This is a radial load range C tire rated for 1,925 pounds at 60 psi. On a single axle, the capacity would be 3,850 pounds. This is 30 pounds lower than the gross trailer weight you stated. In order to get to a high enough capacity you would have to change to a 15 inch tire in a load range D, # AM10245. That...

  • Tire Recommendation to fit a 15 inch Trailer Rim
  • We have replacement tires that will fit 15 inch rims, but none that are designed to fit 14-1/2 inch rims. So I can recommend you tires for the 15 inch rims like a 205/75R15 like the part # AM10245 and then for spares you could use the rim and tire part # AM32395 for a rim with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern or part # AM32409 for a 5 on 5 inch bolt pattern. If you are unsure what your bolt pattern is check out the help article I attached on determining bolt patterns. For info on determining...

  • Looking for ST205/75-15 Wheel/Tire Combo for Spare Tire on ATV Trailer
  • If the center of one bolt hole to the center of the adjacent bolt hole measures 3 inches, you have a 5 lug on a 5 inch bolt circle. If that distance is 2-5/8 inches, it's 5 on 4-1/2. If it's 2-3/4 inches, its 5 on 4-3/4. I've linked you to an article that explains how to I ran out to our warehouse and measured the distance by skipping one hole like you did, and found that a 5 on 5 wheel matched the measurement you took. Please measure the distance between two adjacent holes to confirm,...

  • What Size Trailer Tire Replaces an L78-15 Tire on a Boat Trailer
  • A 78-15 is an older tire size and the metric equivalent is going to be either a 205/75-15 or a 225/75-15 depending on the capacity you need to match the old tires. A 205/75-15, load range B, such as # AM1ST91, is rated for 1,480 pounds at 35 psi. A load range C, # TTWTRTM2057515C, is rated for 1,80 pounds at 50 psi. And a load range D, # AM10245 is rated for 2,150 pounds at 65 psi. By comparison a 225/75-15 load range C, # AM10251, is rated for 2,150 pounds at 50 psi. A load range...

  • Can a 235/65R15 Tire Replace a 205/75/15 Trailer Tire
  • As long as your rim is between 6 and 7 inches in width a 225/75R15 size tire would fit on the rim. The tire will be about 1-1/2 inches taller so you will need to make sure you have the additional clearance for that. For a tire I would recommend the part # AM10256.

  • ST Rated Trailer Tire Recommendation for Boat Trailer to Replace P235/75R15
  • The ST225/75 D15 size trailer tire would work great as a replacement for the passenger vehicle tire P235/75R15 that you currently have on your trailer. The tire will be a tiny bit narrower and shorter but it shouldn't be noticeable. The stiffer sidewall of the bias ply trailer tire will most likely sit taller when loaded anyway. It's very important to only use ST (specialty trailer) rated tires on a trailer. For a tire in the size you need the part # TTWSF22515D would work well. I...

  • Trailer Tire Options in Size 205/75/14 for House Boat trailer
  • You can usefully change your trailer tires to a higher load rating if the trailer's capacity is high enough to make that change worthwhile. If your trailer axle and hubs are rated for a higher load capacity than the two tires then moving to a higher load rating tire/wheel will let you realize a gain in overall weight capability. However, upgrading one part of the system does not automatically mean that you have increased the trailer's capacity; the lowest-rated part of the system - the...

  • Possible Cause of Tires on 5th Wheel Travel Trailer Wearing Heavily on the Inside
  • A couple of things come to mind when I hear that all four of the tires are wearing heavily on the inside. The most common culprit is an overloaded trailer. A trailer axle will have a natural bow in it that is curved upward in the middle when trailer is unloaded. When a load is placed on it, the axle will straighten out. If the the load is too heavy the axle will bow downward in the middle and push the bottoms of the tires out leading to excessive wear on the insides of the tires. Another...

  • Winter Tires or Chains for 2018 Honda Accord
  • I took a look at the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Honda Accord. Under the "Winter Tires" section it states that if you change to winter tires you should select a size and load range that is the same as the original tires that came on the vehicle. Because of this I cannot recommend upgrading to a larger size when switching to winter tires. Another option is to use tire chains for better traction in the ice and snow. The owner's manual says that chains can be installed...
