Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I Purchased four tires for my 20 foot travel trailer. The price was great and I receive the tires within days of my order. I had them put on my vehicle and they are great. Overall experience I would give five stars. Thank you very much 599494

Delivered In 4 days as schedule for my locations. Rims look nice however the galvanize coating could use some refinement. The tires are a big improvement, no road noise and feel great in tow. Excellent buy would differently recommend this tire package for boat owners. 617488

I wanted larger tires and wheels on my UTV Trailer as I felt that the 13" tires that came on the trailer were inadequate. While shopping online I came across the etrailer.com website. It was very easy to compare various tire and wheel combinations and find the one that was right for me. The product pricing was very competitive with other online tire stores but the free shipping is what made me choose etrailer.com. I ordered 3 Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tires mounted on 14" Galvanized Wheels. The 3 tire/wheel combos showed up on my doorstep 4 business days later and were undamaged, neatly packaged in individual tire boxes. I installed the 14" tires on my UTV Trailer today and am very pleased with the results. The new tires did make my trailer ride higher so it was necessary for me to adjust the Ball Mount on the back of my motorhome so that the trailer tows level. I have some long trips planned in the near future so I will be able to assess the performance of the Karrier tires as the miles accumulate. 437066

I bought this for a spare to go with a new utility trailer. I chose this combination of tire and wheel because it was an exact match to the tires and wheels that the trailer came equipped with. I would recommend this tire and wheel combination to anyone wished to purchase a good looking and likely long lasting tire and wheel combo for their trailer. 490293

I bought this tire and galvanized wheel assembly along with a Fulton bracket to use as a spare tire on my boat trailer. The price was the best I could find and the total was just enough to get me free shipping. Awesome! Speaking of shipping, etrailer provided tracking details on the order so I new when to expect delivery. The whole process from web-order to delivery took just five days. Once I received the parts, install took less than half an hour and it looks great! 53260

Delivered on time and as described. Have three of these tires-two for the trailer and one spare. I travel quite a bit with the trailer, an E-Z Loader with an 18' boat on it. Several trips over 100 miles this summer and had zero issues. Galvanized finish stands up great after two seasons of salt water launches. Pic is of one of these tires after two years of use. 229573

The product came fast and was exactly what I was looking for. All I had to do was bolt the wheel on my trailer the tires were already inflated to the proper pressure. The website was easy to navigate and had ample information to help me with my decision about ordering the proper tire wheel combo for my trailer. 567683

by:

The order process was great and shipping was fast. However, upon receiving the 3 tires on July 11, 2018, I noticed that the tire sidewalls were cupped (indented) in spots. I called etrailer customer service, who requested that I send them pictures. I sent pictures immediately after the phone call. After a few days I got an email informing me that the indent on the sidewall would not affect the tire. I sent two emails asking for a reason why the sidewalls were cupped and got no reply. On July 18, 2018, I called etrailer and asked the same question. They told me that the tires could be under inflated or over inflated. I checked the tire pressure and all tires were inflated with the correct pressure. I read on a tire manufacturer website that sidewall cupping could indicate the steel belt on the sidewalls could be defective. I do not know much about tires, so I am worried about the cupping on the sidewalls. Without knowing if the tires are defective, it's difficult to give a good review rating for these tires. 543108

Comments

According to Americana, the indent you describe is where the belt overlaps itself causing the rubber to dimple inward somewhat. The dimple is not anything to be concerned about and will not affect the performance of the tire. The indent does not involve the tread, so it will not affect the ride quality or the safety of the tire.

I had two valve stems go bad and had to be replaced, and one wheel was so out of balance it about shook my boat right off the trailer. No problems with the actual tires just a poor job of mount and balance. If I knew I would have to go to the tire shop three different times I would have just got the wheels and tires from my local tire shop. 698402

Nice upgrade to the old girl. These replaced the 195/75/14's that were on the trailer. Had to add some washers to get the spacing right for the fenders since these are a bit larger but no big deal. Very happy!!! 697610

The tire and wheel package is a great deal and we are very happy with the tires so far. The wheels are showing some fading and I can see a little rust coming through, which is somewhat surprising since they are galvanized. I will try and get some pictures this weekend to add. 692506

I have purchased other tires from etrailer and also this tire and wheel setup. I have been very pleased with their inventory and pricing. They offer specialized tire and wheel setups that are normally hard to find. This wheel and tire combo matched my existing tire and wheels for my boat. 681474

- AM32156
by:

First I must say I was impressed that they shipped this tire and rim combination in an actual box, and a sturdy one at that! Prior experiences with other companies they just came with a tag attached. A+ Etrailer! As for the item itself, this will be a spare so I won’t be using it for an actual load any time soon if I’m lucky. The quality of the tire is evident. The DOT date code is less than 6 months old. The tread is almost an exact match for the tires that came on my trailer. The rim is of good quality and the coating looks to be done nicely and looks like it will be durable. The roll test on a section of new flat road was passed with flying colors, not a wobble or shimmy. For the price you can’t beat this combo! 669516

I mounted these on a boat trailer for a 17ft center console boat. These tires replaced the 175/80/14 bias tires that had started to dry-rot. I’ve towed the boat a couple times now and the larger tires seem to be smoother on rough roads, potholes ect. Kenda seems to have a good reputation, time will tell about the reliability. 658673

Super fast shipping and both tires were enclosed in sturdy boxes. It's nice not having a bunch of stickers and tape all over the tires and rims. Now for the best part, I had just purchased the same two tires from another on line boat equipment vendor on sale,...and about thirty dollars more per tire. These were exactly the same tires. And off sale the other vendor was fifty dollars more per tire. Wish I had known about etrailer.com sooner. I would have bought all four tires from you guys. Outstanding service and pricing. • Suspension and Trailer Tire/Wheel Combo Recommendation for Boat Trailer with 3.5K Axle
  • I do have just about everything you are needing. The only thing that we don't currently carry is a galvanized axle rated for 3,500 lbs. If you check with a local trailer garage/store they should be able to help you order one that has a galvanized finish that also have the correct hub-face and spring-center measurements for your application. A 3,500 lb axle should use inner bearing L68149, outer bearing L44649, and a grease seal that has an inner diameter of 1.719" and an outer diameter...

  • Recommended Spare Tire for Yamaha SX230 Boat Trailer

The least expensive spare wheel/tire combo we have that meets the above and comes with a galvanized wheel is the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel part # AM32156. The least expensive spare wheel/tire combo we have that meets the above and comes with a silver wheel is the Contender ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer...

  • Highest Weight Capacity Trailer Tire that Fits 13 inch Wheel
  • The highest ply rating tire we have for a 13 inch wheel is 8 and is the Loadstar Tire ST185/80D13 part # AM1ST79 which has a weight capacity of 1,710 lbs at 65 psi. More important than ply rating is making sure the tire has enough weight capacity for the trailer it will be installed on. If this tire has enough capacity then you'd be good to use it. Also worth mentioning is that this tire has a speed rating of 81 mph.

  • If you do not have drums already but have standard idler hubs, we would first need to select a drum, then make sure the brake assembly will fit inside that drum. As you guessed, the way to do that is pull apart the hub and bearing numbers. For example, we can say you pull the hub apart and find you have the L68149 inner and L44649 outer bearing configuration, and your wheels are 5 on 4-1/2 lug pattern. With that information we know that you need the Dexter drum assembly, part # 84546UC3....

  • Matching Radial or Bias Tires on a Trailer
  • You will always want the tire size, load range, and construction, to match on your trailer. Using tires that are different can lead to more of a load being put on the smaller size tire/tires and cause tire problems to occur. In your case the tire size (ST205/75-14) is the same but the tire construction is different. With different tire construction the radial tire would run cooler than the bias ply tire and the tracking of the trailer would also be different with the two different tires....

The speed rating you mention of "L" allows a max of 75 mph and the "M" tires allows a max of 81 mph. If you use these different speed rated tires and don't exceed 75 mph I don't foresee an issue since it's the same tire size and as long as the load range is also the same.

  • Can a Trailer with 175/80D13 Tires Be Upgraded to 14 inch Wheels
  • Your current trailer tires that are 175/80R13 are 24.1 inches in overall diameter. To go with a 14 inch setup the smallest diameter available is the 205/75R14 which is 26.3 inches in overall diameter. That means you would have 1.1 inches less of fender well clearance. You want to have a minimum of 3 inches between the tire and the fender when loaded if possible. The part # AM32156 comes with the 205/75R14 tire size and the same 5 lug bolt pattern that your wheel has, so if you have...

  • Will a ST185/80R13 Tire fit a 13 inch Wheel that is 4-1/2 inches Wide
  • Yes, the tire size of ST185/80R13 will fit a rim that measures 13 inches in diameter and 4-1/2 inches in width like the part # AM20232. I attached a link to a page that ahs all of the 13 inch wheels we offer as well. You would want to select the bolt pattern your trailer needs and the correct wheels will be listed there.

  • Replacement Trailer Tires for Boat Trailer with F78-14ST Existing Tires
  • To replace your existing F78-14ST tires, a 205/75-14 size tire will work great. If your trailer has a single axle, you will want tires with a weight capacity of at least 1,750 pounds to accommodate the 3,500 pound weight of your boat and trailer. If the trailer has tandem axles, each tire will need at least an 875 pound weight capacity. If you only need to replace the tires, a great choice is the Taksmaster Provider ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire, Load Range C # TTWTRTM2057514C. This...

  • Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire, part # AM32156 Recommendation for Boat 4200 lb w/ Trailer
  • The main difference between a radial ply and bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords underneath the tire are run in different directions. On a bias tire, the cords run at a 32 degree angle from the direction of travel and on a radial tire, the cords will run at 90 degrees from direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. Because of the construction of a radial tire, the tire has more flex and will allow for more ground contact. That will improve...

  • Can I Use a Smaller Size Spare Tire On a Boat Trailer with 14 Inch Wheels
  • The same dynamics for passenger tires are not applicable for trailer's. Therefore, I do not recommend using a smaller tire on your trailer as a spare. The spare tire on a vehicle is mainly designed to get you to the nearest repair station. The nearest repair station most likely has the correct replacement tire for your car but not your trailer. Therefore you will be forced to either have the trailer sit idle until one has arrives or you can use a full size spare. There are much greater...

  • Recommendation to Upgrade to Larger Size From 175/80R13 Tires on Trailer
  • If you want to upgrade your trailer tires both in terms of load capacity and size, your best option is to go with a 14 inch tire which would require you to replace not just your tires but also your wheels. To do this, I recommend looking at an ST205/75-14 size tire. This tire size will have an overall diameter of 26.3 inches and a width of 8.1 inches. This is compared to the 24 inch diameter and 6.9 inch width on your current 175/80R13 tires. This means that the top of the new tire...

  • Replacement Trailer Wheel and Tire Recommendation for Size ST195/75R14
  • Your tire size of ST195/75D14 is very unusual so we aren't going to have an ideal spare. The closest size we have would be 205/75-14 like the part # AM32156 that you referenced. In a pinch this would get you home, but ideally you swap all of your trailer wheels with this and then use an additional one as a spare.

  • What is the Difference Between ST175/80D13 Tires and ST175/80R13 Trailer Tires
  • The D in 175/80D-13 indicates that it is a bias ply tire where as the R in 175/80r-13 indicates that it is a radial tire. The difference is how the steel belts inside are oriented. Bias ply tires are generally better in off road types of situations. Radial tires track better and run cooler. You do not want to mix the different construction types because that can lead to uneven wear and decreased ride quality. Each type of tire will have a load range such as # AM10210 which is a radial...

  • ST215/75R14 Trailer Tire Recommendation
  • While we certainly have the tire size of ST215-75R14 that you are looking for, we do not carry the Transmaster brand. For a similar brand of the same size check out the Karrier ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10229. For this tire with a white rim with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt patter you would want the part # AM32181. Prices are listed at the links below. I attached a couple helpful FAQ articles on trailer tires for you to check out as well.

  • Mixing Bias and Radial Tires on Dual Axle Camper
  • We definitely do not recommend mixing bias and radial tires on the same axle. You can probably get by with mixing bias and radial tires on different axles but we still would not recommend it. Also, if you plan on towing a lot we would urge you to use only radial tires. I have included a FAQ on trailer tires for you to check out.

  • Can a Mix of Bias Ply and Radial Trailer Tires be Used at the Same Time
  • For a short distance, you can use radial and bias tires at the same time, but you would not want to have the mix for long distances or periods of time. The problem is that the 2 different tires track and perform differently and this can affect ride quality and increase wear on the tires. For a bias ply tire, load range D, 175/80-13, use # AM1ST77. For the same tire on a 5 on 4-1/2 inch galvanized 13 inch wheel use # AM31242. I have included a link to our tire FAQ article for you.

  • Difference Between Trailer Tire Size 205/75R15 and 205/75D15
  • Based on the tire sizes you listed you went from a radial tire to a bias ply tire of the same size. As long as all of the tires on your trailer are of the same construction you would be just fine. The main difference between a radial ply and a bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords inside a bias ply tire run at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, and the cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel...

  • Can a Trailer Spare Tire be Slightly Smaller in Diameter than the Rest of the Tires
  • Typically we recommend the use of the same tire size when picking out a spare tire for a trailer, but since the overall tire diameter difference between the two tire sizes you listed is only .3 of an inch you would be fine for just getting the trailer home or to a shop. If you aren't in a hurry to get the spare tire I would recommend that you order in the correct size tire just to be on the safe side. If your wheels have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you would want the Loadstar ST185/80D13...

  • 14 Inch Diameter Trailer Wheel with 5-on-4-1/2 Inch Bolt Pattern and 2-5/8 Pilot Diameter
  • Assuming that by 4.5 hole, you mean that your hub has a 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle, we do indeed have a 14 inch diameter wheel that has a 2.62 (2-5/8) inch diameter pilot hole. The Dexstar 14 x 5-1/2 conventional steel wheel, part # AM20304 would work well for you. To confirm your bolt pattern, take a look at the FAQ article I've linked for you.
