Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Tires and wheels both look good, the galvanized is a nice change from just painted. If you want even better looking, you'll have to get the aluminum wheels. Customer service was excellent. UPS broke the box and lost one tire, etrailer folks worked with me and them and got a replacement wheel/tire out to me. When UPS found the missing tire, they dropped it at my house and I contacted etrailers to buy it as well to use as a spare. I loved that they stayed in email contact with me on an almost daily basis as we tracked down what happened. Only took a week to sort it all out, and two days of that was because I let the initial box sit without opening it up. Tire wheel price combo seemed higher than some, but I got free shipping, which more than made up for the difference and made these guys the best deal. I would definitely buy from them again 172789

Bought three of these tires and selected the galvanized option for use on my boat trailer. Another reviewer commented on the quality of the galvanizing. My rims looked as if it was sprayed on vs. dipped as well. However, for my application looks less important than function. The three tires individually balanced with weights ranging from minimal to heavy. one required weights on both sides of the rims. I've had them out for a hundred mile round trip and they performed well. So far very satisfied with ease of ordering, prompt shipping, customer follow up and price. If tires hold up well will upgrade rating. As an aside... very impressed with the wealth of information this site makes available to the consumer. 195301

A year ago I promised to upgrade my rating if he tires held up well. They did and I will. Five Stars! Put about 2000 highway miles and numerous dunks in various lakes. The tirres hardly look used and track true. The galvanizing has done its job as well. No issues with rust. Im satisfied with the tires and rims. will consider again when time.

I ordered this tire wheel combination because its simpler to order combination than just buy tires and not that much more expensive. I also wanted to change to galvanized wheels so combo was the way to go. I also wanted load range D and hopefully a better quality tire than readily available locally , which I hope this turns out be. I have had extensive experience with large and small trailers including jet ski pontoon and ski boat, equiptment trailers, goosenecks, 4 wheeler / lawnmower trailers and john boat fishing boat trailers which this purchase was for. Essentially all the 13 inch and under down to 8 inch trailer tires I have ever had failed from sidewall cracking aging . Hope the rubber in this tire is more like normal car tire formulation. Only time will tell. The tires arrived in 3 days as indicated when ordered and order was correct. The condition of the tires was as expected with no observed defects they were also pre inflated . The one thing that prevented me from giving this a five star was the quality of the galvanization on the wheels. In some areas there was excess small sheets of the galvanized coating hanging off wheel near tire bead edge and between the spokes. This excess pulls off easily but makes me think it will leave a small crease of unprotected metal. Only time will tell. I do believe the wheels will look better 3 years for now than the painted ones I had and am using as spares. The website was fairly easy to use but the choices could have been further filtered to galvanized etc wheel and especially load range and Bias vs Radial tires . It took a while to go through the 25 or so choices then I placed possibles in cart then went to cart to review those and remove all the ones I did not order. Overall very good experience with shopping and ordering and I have ordered from here several times. 607207

There are a few things you can do to maximize the longevity of your tires. 1 Observe the weight rating. Exceeding the weight rating will cause a high heat build-up, which decreases tire life. 2 Observe the tires speed rating, for the same reason as above. 3 Maintain the tire at the full pressure listed on the tire sidewall. If the tire is underinflated, its load bearing capability will be reduced. Trailer tires are meant to be operated fully inflated unlike passenger vehicle tires which can have an acceptable inflation range. 4 Protect the tires from UV rays if the trailer is stored outside. UV rays from sunlight cause the rubber compounds in tires to break down prematurely. Trailer tires should be replaced around the 6 year mark, regardless of tread condition. At 6 years, dry rot will start to be a problem.

Bass Tracker Boat Trailer had chrome rims. Only a few years on it and it is garage kept. Rust was showing. Found the Rim and Tire combo made out of Galvanized metal to be a much cheaper and fast fix to problem. These tires are great. The price for the mounted set sent was delivered in less than 1 day at miles less than 300 from MO shipper. Saved on taxes, mounting, disposal, shipping. When it is time to replace tires again than would do it over with exact replacement. Chrome on old rims made my Alum boat look dull. No dulling down the rims makes boat look even better. Getting a spare too! The combo height from old to new was about an inch. Old tires don't loose this much rubber. No more excessive bounce when hitting potholes. 40939

Tires were ordered on Good Friday and showed before noon on Tuesday. Great service as expected. The tires are very nice and there was no shipping damage. I think they will work great on my camper for this years long distance tow. Only little complaint is that the rims don't look like a lot of finish work went into them. They are rough, almost look like they were spray painted rather than galvanized. Surface has drips and runs. But otherwise is well covered and I don't anticipate them rusting like my old white painted rims did. They may look better with a bit of hand polish work. But they are trailer tires not mag rims on a GTO so I can live with it. 183877

Ordered new tires and wheels gor my boat trailer. They came with tires mounted and fully inflated. The wheels seem fine. The finish is galvanized SNCF not especially smooth but, wth, they are for a boat trailer. Only ; stars because they were back ordered and took 2 weeks to arrive. 690779

Tires with rims were shipped promptly. Tires were manufactured within a couple of weeks of when I received them which is critical for trailer tires as they need to be replaced every 5-7 years due to the rubber deteriorating due to age. 677855

Great service. The tire/wheel I ordered originally was not available, received email from etrailer informing me of the backorder. Offered another option and ended up advising me to move to upgraded tire based on my trailer weight. These 4 tires/wheels are on a 24 foot pontoon that I recently restored. Upgraded from small 10" bias ply tires. Improved tracking and all around performance. 668403

First time purchasing from etrailer.com and I was very pleased with the prompt shipping and quality of the products I purchased. Purchased a set of new pre-mounted tires and wheels for my boat trailer and spare tire carriers for my boat and jet ski trailers. 668083

Tires and wheels as described. Shipped to me inflated. Tires rated at max load when inflated cold to 70 PSI. As received in Rhode Island on an 81 degree day, the tires were inflated to approximately 60PSI, which would be fine for most people. Just be aware you may need to adjust pressure to suit. Tires look good on my Sea Doo boat trailer and fit as expected. 666654

No issues, still looks like a new tire. This is on a boat trailer that gets about 1000 miles a year, lots of sun and salt water. Normally the sun does them in more than the miles, in this case the Kenda Karrier still looks new. The galvanized rim was well done, heavy galvanizing that again looks brand new after many dips in salt water. Would buy again. 657744

See the title. At a local tire shop they want exorbitant prices to mount a brand new trailer tire. If your wheels, like mine were aging, and you don’t care about fancy looks, this is the ticket. Two brand new galvanized wheels and matched tires that look great for way less money. They’re a basic design but these were a great fit for me. They track perfect, way better in fact than the factory rims with overpriced tires that I would have the tire shop “balance” every time I got new ones. Another tip, make sure you get a tire that is speed rated appropriately for your load. I was blowing those overpriced tire shop tires about every two to three years before I figured this out. The stress on a fully inflated max pressure tire is more than you think once you load the boat down with gas and gear, and you like to get to the lake quickly like me. I’m very confident in this purchase, no complaints we will see about the longevity after some time. Etrailer is exceptional to do business with as always! 645175

I was originally going to get the tires without the rims to replace a current shredded tire and an existing tire on my Aliner popup. However, for only about $30 more per tire, I now have new tires and rims, a good spare (the existing one) and the possibility of having a spare spare, should I want it. My ordering process was quick and easy, and the tires were shipped the same day, and delivered within 2 days. 639881

Purchased two trailer tires and both arrived in easy to carry boxes and went on just like they were made for it! :-) Easy to order, arrived fine, and all is great. I haven't put any miles on them just yet, but I'm sure they will ride just fine. 635292

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Upgrading 20.5x8-10 Tires on Pontoon Boat Trailer to Higher Load Capacity Tires
  • The modern equivalent to the 20.5x8.0-10 size tires on your pontoon trailer is the 205/65-10 size, which would fit your existing wheels without issue. The highest rated trailer tire we have available in this size is the Kenda Loadstar K399 Bias # AM1HP56, which features a maximum load of 1,650 pounds at 90 psi. This would give you a combined load of 3,300 for a nice safety margin with your trailer that weighs under 3,000 pounds when loaded. This particular tire does also have an excellent...

  • Can I Upgrade from 12 Inch Wheels to 13 Inch Wheels on a Boat Trailer
  • Generally speaking, it is not a huge deal to upgrade one size (12" to 13") so long as you have clearance but the other thing to make note of is the surface area on the hub. If you have a 2,000 lb trailer axle then your hub is likely only rated for use with 8"-12" wheels but if you have a 3,500 lb trailer axle then your hub is likely rated for use with 13"-15" wheels. However, there are hubs for either axle that will allow you to upgrade/degrade wheels so if you can confirm your axle capacity...

  • The pre-mounted trailer wheel/trailer tire products we sell, such as # AM31994, are not dynamically balanced the way vehicle wheels/tires are. • First, if your current tires have a P in front of the size that indicates they are likely passenger vehicle tires which should not be used on trailer due to the differences in construction. If they are trailer tires, they should have ST in front of the size. A 185/80-13 is a trailer tire size. Check the trailer tongue for a plate that lists the capacities and should also list the tire size the manufacturer uses for the trailer. That is the size you would ideally want to stay with. Both...

  • Choosing Between Galvanized Trailer Wheels and Aluminum Trailer Wheels for a Boat Trailer
  • In the galvanizing process, depending on how the manufacturer dries the wheels some of it can pool on one side due to the dipping processed used. That is an issue you are going to run into with many wheel manufacturers. It is an ongoing issue. What I recommend is to go with an aluminum wheel and tire combo like # AM31998, # AM32001HWTB, or # AM31245. You pay a little more but you still get excellent corrosion resistance, style, and none of the issues associated with galvanized wheels.

  • What Torque Is Required To Install 13 Inch Aluminum Wheel Tire Combinations
  • The Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D # AM31994 does not have specific torque specs. The torque values will be based on the lug nuts and wheel size. For your wheel size and material, you will torque between 75 and 85 ft lbs if you have 1/2 inch lugs or between 95 and 115 ft lbs if you have 9/16 inch lug nuts. I've attached a photo to assist.

  • Changing Boat Trailer Wheels from 12 to 13 Inch Diameter
  • For a 13 inch wheel and tire combo, the tire sizes would either be ST175/80-13 or ST185/80-13. The 175/80-13 measures 24.02 inches in diameter, while the 185/80-13 measures 24.65 inches in diameter. This is considerably larger than the 4.8-12 wheel and tire that has a 20.5 inch diameter. The wheels on these combos are typically 4-1/2 inches wide, with the alloy wheels being 5 inches wide. If your boat trailer can accommodate the larger diameter and width without having any clearance...

  • Replacement Tire Recommendation for Trailer with ST175/80R13 Tires that are Failing
  • You always want to have your trailer tires inflated to their max PSI rating. There is no exception for this for tandem axle trailers. Typically trailer tires fail due to excessive heat created by overloading, exceeding the speed rating (typically 65 mph), or under-inflation. The most likely situation is that you are exceeding the speed rating and that is causing the failure since you are above the weight rating for 4 Load Range C tires. So I would recommend the Taskmaster Tire part...

  • Can 12 inch Trailer Wheel and Tire be Replaced with 13 inch Trailer Wheel and Tire
  • As long as you have the correct bolt pattern for a wheel and tire like the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern # AM31994 and the available space for it to fit you could pretty easily swap to this larger size as it's very common for trailers to upgrade their tires to larger sizes. The section width of this is 7 inches and the outer diameter is then 24.1 inches.

  • Speed Rating of Malone XtraLight Trailer MPG525G
  • Malone's XtraLight Trailer # MPG525G is configured with 8-inch wheels and tires, size 4.80/4.00-8, which are 16-inches in overall diameter. These tires and the trailer itself are rated for highway driving up to 70-mph with the trailer loaded to its full capacity of 275-lbs. Towing a trailer at higher speeds than this is not recommended. Tires in 13-inch size ST175/80-13, like # AM31994, are 50% larger, 24-inches overall diameter, and would not fit on this trailer.

  • Tracker Pontoon 13 inch Trailer Wheel Recommendation
  • The rivets you described are just for looks and do not serve an actual purpose. For a 13 inch wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern in a galvanized finish the part # AM20234 would work for you. Or if you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern the # AM20224 would work. Galvanized wheels are great for boat trailers since they do a great job fighting corrosion. Or for a wheel and tire the part # AM31994 for a 5 lug wheel and part # AM3S040 for a 4 lug.

  • What Size Radial Tires to Replace Existing B78-13ST Load Range B Tires on Boat Trailer
  • The B78-13 tire you have corresponds to a ST175/80-13 tire size. Radial tires are an excellent choice. They tend to run cooler than bias-ply tires, which will lead to longer tire life. If you are needing the tire only, we offer that size in a radial load range D (1610 lb capacity @ 65 psi) or a load range C (1360 lbs @ 50 psi). The load D tire is part # AM10210, the load range C tire is part # AM10199. If your present wheels have a 5 lug on 4-1/2 inch bolt circle, we offer a load...

  • Changing Boat Tires From Size 5.30-12 to Size 175/80R13
  • Provided that you have enough clearance, changing from your Bias 5.30-12 size tire, like part # AM30859, to a Radial 175/80R13, like part # AM31994, could definitely have its advantages and is a good idea. Bias tires are designed for more of an off-road application, like farm use, because they have a much more rigid sidewall. A Radial tire is built so that it has little bit of flex in it to help make the ride a little smoother plus it runs cooler than a Bias. To ensure that the bigger...

  • Replacing Existing B78-13ST Tires on Boat Trailer with Modern Equivalent
  • The B78-13ST is an obsolete tire size that's no longer used. A 175/80-13 is the closest modern tire size. The # AM10210 tire you looked at is a 175-80-13 with a D load range radial tire that has a 1,610 lb capacity at 65 psi. You'll want to make sure you replace the tires in pairs. After several years, tires can start to dry rot. If your spare is more than 6 years old, I'd urge you to replace it even if the tire still appears to have plenty of tread on it. We also offer that tire...

  • What Is Speed Rating For 13 Inch Radial Tire/Wheel Combos For Trailers
  • The speed rating for the Taskmaster Radial Tire, part # TTWA13RWS is M, or 81 mph. This is a Load Range C tire and has a capacity of 1,360 lbs at 50 psi. The wheel is a 13 x 4-1/2 inch rim and it has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. I called my contact at Kenda and asked about the radial tires they have on their tire/wheel combos, part # AM31985 and part # AM31994. They told me the speed rating for both of these tires is M and 81 mph. We do recommend staying within the speed limits in...

It is confirmed to fit wheels 4-1/2 inches wide. Manufacturer make can change so I can't confirm your tires an wheels will fit. However, all of our wheel and tire combinations for this tire size is used with 13x 4.5 wheels.

  • Availability of 175/80R13 Tire Mounted to Trailer Wheel with 5 on 4-1/2 inch Bolt Pattern
  • The closest we have is the part # TTWA13RSM which is the tire you want on a silver powdercoated rim with a 5 on 4-1/2 inc bolt pattern. We have similar setups like the part # AM31994 that does use a galvanized wheel but it uses a Kenda tire and not the Taskmaster. I wish we had the ability to mount tires here but we do not at this time.

  • Can Bias Ply Spare Be Used on Trailer with Radial Tires
  • Yes, as long as the spare tire is the same size, load range (weight rating) and has the matching wheel bolt pattern you can use a bias ply spare to replace a radial main tire for the short distance you'll travel to get the radial repaired or replaced. For example, the 5-on-4-1/2 bias ply # AM31233 can be used as a spare to replace radial # AM31994. You do not want to run the trailer with mixed tires for any substantial distance but to get you to a repair shop it is fine.

  • Difference In 4.80 x 8 Tire Size And 165/65 x 8 Tire Size on a 4 On 4 Bolt Pattern Wheel
  • The bolt pattern on the wheel will be the same, the only difference is the size of the tires. The 4.80 x 8 tire size like the Kenda K371 Bias Trailer Tire, part # AM10004, is 16.1 inches tall and the overall width is 4.6 inches. The 165/65 x 8 tire size like the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire, part # AM1HP22, is 16.5 inches tall and the overall width is 6.6 inches. The 165/65 x 8 tire is 4/10 of an inch taller and 2 inches wider, so you would have to check your trailer to see...

  • What Type of Tire Should be Used on a Motorcycle Trailer
  • Some tires are specially designed to be used on trailers. These tires include the letters "ST" in the size specification that is listed on the sidewall. The "ST" stands for "special trailer". This kind of tire has a stronger sidewall than an automobile or truck tire so it can handle higher air pressures and higher loads. For a trailer I cannot recommend you use a passenger vehicle tire regardless of how small or lightweight the trailer is. The main difference between a radial ply...

  • Building an Off-Road Trailer to Be Towed By a Jeep Wired for Electric Brakes
  • The Timbren's Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System # ASR1THDS02 that you referenced are the axles that I recommend for building your off-road trailer. The axle-less design gives you added clearance under your trailer. When using straight axles, the under trailer clearance for off road purpose can be an issue. The Timbren axles allow for more clearance down the middle of the trailer. You also need electric brake and hub and drum assemblies for these axles. I recommend the # AKEBRK-35R-SA...
