Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - AM30820 Review

Today we're going to review part number AM30820. This is the Kenda 5.30-12 bias trailer tire mounted on a 12" Dexstar white spoke wheel. We'll start with the rim dimensions. The diameter of this wheel would be 12", which are measured inside-to-inside. The width of this wheel is 4" wide. This wheel has a bolt pattern, which has 5 lugs 4.5" bolt pattern.

The best way to measure on a wheel that will have an odd number of lugs, like in this case 5 lugs. Is if you would draw a circle through the center of each bolt hole and measure the diameter of that circle, that will give you the bolt pattern. So in this case if we measure from the center of this hole to that edge of that circle we've drawn would be 4.5''. So the bolt pattern will be 5 lugs 4.5'' bolt pattern. This wheel has a weight capacity of 1,250 pounds at 90 psi.

It uses a wheel bolt size of a 1/2"-20. Another critical measurement is the pilot hole diameter, which is the large hole in the center here. This will go over the hub on your trailer, measured diameter of that is 3.19''. This wheel does come with a white powder coat finish. Now, we move on to the tire.

This tier is Loadstar size 5.30-12, has a load range of C, which is a 6 ply rated tire. The maximum load carrying capacity on this tire is 1,045 pounds at 80 psi. This tire is a bias constructed tire, which would mean the belts will run the length of the tire. This will give a little bit firmer ride when compared to radial design tire. One last measurement we're going to do is the overall diameter of this tire and it would be 22''.

That should do it for part number AM30820.

I needed new tires for my 13 yr old 5'x8' utility trailer. ETrailer had the right product (for some reason 5.30-12s are not that common in my area) and a good price which created the highest value from the various sources I found on the web and locally. I was very pleasantly surprised how well everything came packed. Very good experience. 93767

After purchasing, and installation of the 2 Kenda 5.30-12 Tire W/12 White Wheels, 2 perfect fits, for my 1998 Tracker Trail Star boat trailer.I purchased these tires for my boat trailer because the tires on the trailer had small cracks due to the sun exposure. The boat is 16’2’’, and has a combined weight of about 1,380 lbs. The tires were very easy to mount, the ride while traveling on the interstate to the lake was smooth, and the handling on the boat trailer felt well secure at a high speed of 70mph. Overall I am very pleased with these tires. I also purchased two tire cover to put over the new tires, to preserve them from this Hot Atlanta, GA. sun. 256464

I put two of these tires on a trailer that we use & abuse frequently and the tires have held up amazingly well. I've got probably 4000 miles on them and I'll easily get 2-3 more years off them. The price was great, delivery was fast and the tires are way above expectations. Can't go wrong with etrailer! 718467

Kenda Loadstar 5.30-12 Bias tire,LR C, with White Rim: Tires arrived in excellent boxes, on time. I was excited to see the tires were in good shape upon arrival. I cleaned them up, applied 303 on the whole rim and tire. An excellent choice of tire for my fishing trlr. These tire are a high speed tire, wider than the 4.80 tire and will wear very good in the desert heat. I ordered 3 tires, I won't have to worry about a flat for years to come. Ask the Experts about this Kenda Tires and Wheels

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • Is a Load Range D Trailer Tire Better for Long Trips than a Load Range C of the Same Size
  • Going with a higher load range within the same tire size has some benefits. It will have a higher ply rating which means the tire will be stronger. Keep in mind though that the higher capacity does not increase the capacity of the trailer. The issue you may run into though is with the wheels. If your wheels have a psi rating that is lower than what the tires are rated for then you can end up with leaks or damage though damage isn't as likely in the short term. The psi rating for...

You'll want to choose a tire whose load rating for two tires exceeds the fully loaded weight of your pop-up (including propane and water). We offer a 5.30-12 wheel/tire...

The trailer uses 5.30-12 load range C tires and a wheel with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. So for a spare you can use # AM30850, # AM30820, or # TTWAS53012WS45HP. • To keep the deck height low like you want you would want the 4 inch drop Timbren axle-less system part # ASR2KHDS05 for a torsion style axle setup. • Does the Center Pilot Hole of a Trailer Wheel Have to be an Exact Size
  • There are two different types of trailer hubs that will determine if the pilot hole on a wheel matters or not. First there are hubs that use wheel bolts to secure the wheel to the hub. These are called hub-centric. For this type, the pilot hole has to be exact because that is how the wheel centers on the hub. Then there are the type that use lug nuts to secure the wheel to the hub. • Will a 5.30-12 Trailer Tire Last Longer than a 4.80-12 Trailer Tire
  • If you were to go with a 5.30-12 load range D tire # AM10068 it will have a ply rating of 8 which is going to be higher than a 4.80-12 tire. This means a stronger tire and it should not wear as quickly as the 4.80-12. The 5.30-12 is also going to be almost 1-1/2 inches taller so there would be fewer revolutions of the tire compared to the 4.80-12 over the same distance. In addition to being 1-1/2 inches taller the 5.30 will also be 0.7 inches wider so you will need to make sure you...

Trailer tires should also be inflated to the max psi as indicated on the tire (90 psi for # AM30820) for longest life and best performance. If a tire is rated to run at a higher speed, this information should be listed on the trailer's tires sidewall. • A 155/80-12 is definitely not a common trailer tire sized, though it may have been at one time. It sounds more like a car tire size which should not be used on a trailer. The trailer tongue or frame should have a sticker or plate that indicates the size it requires. If it does say 155/80-12 you will need to go with the closest match since that since is no longer available. The 5.30-12 tires are going to be very, very close. They will be only 1/2 inch more narrower and 0.2 inches taller...

  • Do 4.80-12 and 5.30-12 Trailer Tires fit the Same Size Rim
  • Yes, the 4.80-12 tire size and the 5.30-12 tire size both fit a 12 inch diameter wheel that is 4 inch wide. So the part # AM30660 with a 4.80-12 tire would have the same rim as the # AM30820. Both these rims have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.

  • Replacement Pontoon Trailer Bunk Brackets to Provide Increased Clearance Between Boat and Ground
  • Since your clearance issue is not so much with your trailer as with your pontoon boat's skegs, the better solution is to install taller bunk brackets to lift the height of the boat on the trailer, rather than lifting the trailer higher off the ground. Keep in mind that a tire would have to be 3-inches taller overall to give you 1-1/2-inches more height. A tire that much larger would probably create a new problem with fender or wheel well clearance. The linked page displays all bunk brackets...

  • Recommendation for New Tires and Wheels on Boat Trailer with 5.30-12 5 Lug
  • My personal recommendation would be to go with a load range C tire like the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12 inch Galvanized Wheel, # AM30850, or the # AM30820 with white wheel. The class C tire offers a higher load capacity than that of the class B tire and may be beneficial when hauling your boat. Keep in mind that although you would be increasing the load capacity on your tires, you are still limited to the lowest rated component on the trailer. I spoke with my in-house tire expert...

  • Replacement of 5.30 x 12 Trailer Tires and Appropriate Trailer Tire Pressure Recommendations
  • Based on the information that you have supplied for your 5.30 by 12 Load Range C Tires (which have a maximum load rating of 1045 pounds), you are correct that these tires should be inflated to 80 PSI. Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum PSI stated on the tire, and should be inflated when they are cold. Special Trailer (ST) tires are designed to handle higher air pressure and have stronger sidewalls than passenger vehicle tires. These ST tires are expressly designed...

  • What is the Lug Nut Torque Rating for Tire and Wheel Combo AM30820
  • Typically, you will want to go by the rating for the wheel when torquing down lug nuts if it is specified and/or lower than what the lug nut is rated for. For the wheel included with the tire and wheel combo # AM30820, the specs for the wheel indicate that the lug nuts should be torqued to 50 to 75 foot pounds. You should re-torque them at 10 miles, 25 miles, and 50 miles, and then periodically after that.

  • Spare Wheel and Tire Combo with 5.30-12 Tire
  • We have options for you that should work well. We sell rim and tire combos that have a 5.30-12 tire mounted on them. You will just need to know what your wheels bolt pattern is so that you can pick out the correct one. See the FAQ article I attached to the right for that. If you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would want the # AM30780, if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you would want the # AM30820. I attached review videos for both wheel and tires.

  • Recommended 12 Inch Tire/Wheel Combo For Trailer With 5 On 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern
  • I recommend the Kenda 5.30-12 Bias Trailer Tire with 12" White Wheel, part # AM30820. This is a Load Range C 12 inch tire with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. This wheel is an 8-spoke white powder coated wheel with a 3.19 inch diameter pilot hole. The capacity for this combo is 1,045 lbs at 80 psi. I have attached a link to a product review video you can check out.

  • Can a 5.30-8 Wheel and Tire on a Trailer be Replaced by a 5.30-12
  • If you have the fender and frame clearance needed for the larger size then you could go to the larger size. The larger 5.30-12 tire size will eat up about 2 more inches of fender clearance and would be about 5.6 inches in width. You will then need to match the bolt pattern of the wheel you want with what you currently have. If you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # AM30780 or if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern you would want the # AM30820.

  • Is Kenda 12 Inch Trailer Tire / Wheel Combo Balanced
  • The wheel/tire combos we offer are not balanced at the factory. When the tire is mounted to the wheel, the high or heavy spot on the wheel is matched to the low or light spot on the tire, which leaves the wheel and tire somewhat balanced. You can have the wheel/tire balanced if you wish to, but it is not as important to have perfectly balanced tires used for trailers as it is with a passenger vehicle. I have attached a link to a helpful article about tires and wheels you can check out.

  • Where to Find a Tire's Required PSI Pressure Rating
  • Your trailer tire will have a lot of information noted on its outer sidewall. This will be molded into the rubber. Some of this information will be fairly small and may require wiping down the tire to remove any dirt in order to see it. The type of information noted on a trailer tire includes the tire size, for example 5.30-12 as with yours; its weight Load Rating; correct cold PSI tire pressure and sometimes a speed rating letter code. The tire's correct pressure will be noted somewhere...

The Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Tire w/ 12 Inch Wheel # TTWA13RSM that you now have mounted weighs 33 pounds total for the tire and wheel.

  • Will Tire and Wheel Combo AM30820 Fit a Trailer Hub that Uses Wheel Bolts Instead of Lug Nuts
  • What you have are wheel bolts and a hubcentric hub. This means that the wheels center on the hub using the center pilot hole. The pilot home then has to be exact, otherwise the wheel cannot be properly centered. The pilot hole on tire and wheel combo # AM30820 is 3.19 inches. Compare that to the pilot hole on the wheels you have to determine if this tire and wheel combo will fit. If it will then you can use it. There could be slight variations in the measurements for the Bearing...
