Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - AM30120 Review

Today we're going to review part number AM30120. This is the Kenda 5.70-8" Bias Trailer Tire mounted on an 8" Dexstar white spoke wheel. We'll start with the rim dimensions on the wheel. This wheel is 8" in diameter, which would measure 8" inside-to-inside. It is 3-3/4" wide wheel. The bolt pattern on this wheel is 4 lug 4" bolt pattern.

Best way to measure a bolt pattern is from the center of whole of this lug hole directly across to the center of that lug hole. When we do that it will be 4", so the bolt pattern is 4 lug 4" bolt pattern. This wheel has a weight capacity of 910 pounds. The wheel bolt size is 1/2"-20. Another critical measurement will be the pilot hole diameter, which is the large hole at the center of the wheel.

This is what will go over the hub on your trailer. If we measure the diameter of that, it would be 2.5". This wheel has a white powder coat finish. Now, we move on to the tire. The tire is a Loadstar, size 5.70-8".

This is a load range C tire, which means it is 6 ply rated tire, has a maximum load carrying capacity of 910 pounds at 75 psi. This tire is of bias construction, which means the belts inside the tire will run the length of the tire. One more measurement we'll be doing is the overall diameter. Overall diameter on this will be 18". And this tire/wheel combo is covered by a limited 2-year warranty.

That should do it for part number AM30120.

Received Tire/Wheel assembly in perfect condition. Excellent price, fit and delivery. Really impressed! The tires and Wheels are going on a recently restored 4x8 utility trailer that belonged to my wife's dad that passed away. We use it to haul our Garden Tractor to cut our lawn down the Ocean that is 150 miles away every two weeks. I wanted a tire and wheel assembly that would match the older wheels and they do. Many thanks John And Sandy. 90611

My wife and I bought a used pop-up camper and ended up with a flat tire shortly after we got it home. I had priced tires locally and found out I could get a tire with a wheel @ etrailer.com for less than I could get just the tire here not to mention mounting the tire. So I bought two new tire and wheels and had them shipped to me in just a few days. The other reason I bought from etrailer.com was their product detail, mostly by videos. After watching quite a few videos I gained the knowledge to know exactly what I needed to buy for my immediate needs and I also found exactly what I need when I decide to do an over under axle flip in the not too distant future. I found the kit to do the flip plus I found the bigger 10" tire and wheel combo I will need so I can toss out the 8" wheels I have now. etrailer.com has a new life long customer. Thanks you for existing. :) PS: The quality, fit, and finish of the tires and wheels was excellent. 518255

Due to a tire emergency I had purchased another brand of tires from a local source just 3 years ago and they are already cracking. The spare tire for this trailer is a Kenda and it sits in the sun all day, was out of the 5year date and had no cracks at all. I have never bought trailer tires from other than etrailer except that once and I will never do it again, the price was higher and they did not last as long. I have therefore purchased these Kenda tires on rims and they came with a manufacture date of 2017 which gives me 5 years of use :-) I learned my lesson on tire purchase - only etrailer - Please see my other review of different trailer tires I purchased from etrailer at the same time (they are replacing the same tires I purchased from etrailer 5 years ago - always replace trailer tires within 5 years). 412211

The trailer tires that I ordered are of excellent quality. Very pleased that I choose etrailer.com for my order. I definitely will use etrailer.com for future orders. And by the way, I choose standard delivery (5 - 7 day) - - etrailer.com upgraded my delivery to 3 - 5 day delivery. I received my order in 3 days. From MO to MD in 3 days - - that is outstanding any way you cut it. 122267

  • If the center section of your hub is 2-1/2 inches wide and all of the other things you mentioned of the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30120 match this will fit and work well for you. The center hole of the wheel will fit right over the hub and fit just fine. In a lot of cases the pilot diameter is a bit bigger than needed, but in your situation where it fits exact it will work just fine. If anything it will make lining up the wheel on the lugs a bit easier.

  • A 5.70-8 load range B tire has a capacity of 715 lbs, which is 1430 lbs per pair. If the weight of the trailer exceeds that amount, then you'd want to go with the load range C, with a 910 lb capacity (1820 per pair). Even if the weight of your trailer doesn't exceed the capacity of the load range B, I'd recommend going with the higher load range. If you just need the tire, go with part # AM10012. • Speed Rating for Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Inch White Wheel # AM30120
  • All of the trailer tires we carry are now rated for 65 miles per hour. The load range of a tire does not change its speed rating, so a B load range will have the same 65 mph speed rating as a C load range. For the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM30120, that you have referenced, the tire has a capacity of 910 pounds at 75 psi. Trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum indicated psi rating for best performance and longer life.

  • Speed Rating of Trailer Tires in Size 5.70-8
  • No, unfortunately it is not true that over-inflating a tire allows it to be driven faster, nor can it carry more weight. It is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer tire for any reason. Trailer tires should ALWAYS be inflated to the maximum cold psi pressure indicated on the tire sidewall. This means that at the start of the day when the tires are cold you want to ensure they have that full specified pressure, no more, no less. It is normal for tires to warm up from...

  • Recommended Clearance Between Trailer Frame Rail and Trailer Tire
  • The minimum distance between the inside of a tire and the frame rail depends a lot on the setup of the trailer. But as long as the tire and the frame don't touch you would be fine. It's hard to give an exact figure as trailer setups can vary and some trailers may have more side to side movement which would call for more clearance. If the suspension is good on the trailer and not worn out I would go with at least 1-1/2 inches to be on the safe side.

  • Factors to Consider When Adding Larger Tires and Wheels to a Trailer
  • You can add larger wheels and tires to a trailer as long as you have enough room for the larger size. The main clearance issues we find when putting larger tires and wheels on a trailer is from the top of the tire to the fender and from the inside wall of the tire to the trailer wall/frame. The next factor that you will want to consider is the bolt pattern of the wheel. If your current wheels have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern, then the new wheels must have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern as...

  • What To Consider When Upsizing 4.80/4.00-8 Size Trailer Tires
  • When looking at putting larger tires on a trailer, it is important to ensure that there is sufficient clearance for the larger tire. We recommend having 4-1/2 inches of clearance between the tire tread and the fender/underside of the trailer. This clearance allows 1-1/2 inches for suspension travel and 3 inches for bump clearance. For the inside clearance, we typically like to see 2 inches between the tire sidewall and trailer. Your trailer's existing 4.80/4.00-8 size tires have an overall...

  • If the center part of the hubs on your trailer are 2-1/2 inches or smaller then tire and wheel combo # AM30120 will fit. A pilot hole can be larger than the hub center diameter if the wheel is held on to the hub with lug nuts. But if it attaches using wheel bolts instead of lug nuts then the pilot hole has to be exact because that is how it centers on the hub. It sounds like you most likely have a 3-3/4 inch wide rim and either a 4.80/4.00-8 like part # AM10004 or a 5.70-8 like # AM10013 would fit. Otherwise you would need to upgrade to new tires and rims like the part # AM30120 for if you have a 4 on 4 inch bolt patter or part # AM30140 for if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern.

  • Availability of Replacement 5.70 x 8 Wheels/Tires for Jayco Eagle
  • We do indeed carry wheel/tire combos that feature a 5.7x8 tire on a steel 8 inch by 3-3/4 inch steel wheel with a 4 lug on 4 inch bolt circle. If that's the tire and wheel size currently used on your Jayco Eagle, you'd choose the wheel/tire below that offers the proper capacity. For a load range B with a 715 lb capacity per tire at 50 psi, use part # AM30080 For load range C with a 910 lb capacity per tire at 75 psi, use # AM30120 I've linked you to some FAQ articles about trailer...

  • Axle Recommendations for Homemade Motorcycle Trailer
  • I can help you determine which Timbren Axle-less system is the right one for your trailer. If your total trailer weight including the weight of the motorcycle is under 400lbs. then the Timbren # A4WS440 system will be a good fit for you. These axle-less systems provide a smooth and quiet ride without having to sacrifice any ground clearance. Depending on what your total trailer weight ends up being you may want to go up to the next highest capacity set rated at 1,200lbs. # A12RS440. If...

  • Can a 215/60-8 Size Tire Replace a 5.70-8 Tire for a Pop Up Camper Trailer
  • The main difference between a 5.70-8 trailer tire and a 215/60-8 will be the width. Your current tire is about 5.9 inches wide and the 215/60-8 is about 8.9 inches wide. They will both be about the same height. If your current wheel setup has more than 1-1/2 inches of clearance from the inner sidewall of the tire to the frame of your trailer you would have clearance for the # AM3H290 to fit.

  • How to Determine Total Weight Carrying Capacity of Trailer Tires
  • When a trailer wheel/tire like the bias ply Kenda # AM30120 shows a weight carrying capacity of 910-lbs, which is for Load Range C, that is for just the one wheel/tire. So, yes, you would double that to determine the total weight capacity of the axle/hub/wheel/tire system. Do note that if one of the items in this system is rated lower than the others, then that lower rating becomes the overall capacity limit. For example, if a wheel has a rating of 1250-lbs but the tire mounted on that...

  • Trailer Tires for a TeeNee Boat Trailer
  • The tire and wheel combo # AM30120 has a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. You would need to make sure you have the right bolt pattern for the wheel to fit your boat trailer. It is rated for 910 pounds at 75 psi. The tires we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. You do not want to exceed the speed rating. Trailer tires...

  • Replacement Stud or Hub/Drum for Broken Stud on Trailer Hub
  • You might be able to get away with it for a while, but I cannot recommend driving with a broken stud on one of your trailer hubs. Fortunately we do offer both replacement studs and new hubs. I linked our main page for hub/drum parts such as drive-in and screw-in wheel studs like # K12WB2 and # 25-53. I also linked our page for hub/drum assemblies in case you prefer to simple replace the bad hub. Be sure to confirm your wheel bolt pattern (there are several 5-stud bolt patterns - please...

  • What is Pilot Diameter of Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30120
  • The pilot diameter of the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30120 that you referenced is right at 2.5 inches. As long as the center portion of your hub measures less than that the hub will fit. Basically as long as the pilot diameter is big enough to fit on the hub this wheel will work just fine.

  • Rim Width Required for Installing a 5.70-8 Trailer Tire
  • I wonder if you possibly aren't measuring from the correct location to determine the width of your trailer rims. If you are including the lips of the wheels you may actually have 3-3/4 inch wide rims and we would have a replacement that would work for you. Check out the picture I attached to see where you are supposed to measure. If you do have a 3-3/4 inch wide rim I would recommend the Kenda K353 Bias Trailer Tire # AM10013. I attached an FAQ on trailer tires for you to check out...
