Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

Video Transcript for Kenda Tires and Wheels - Tire with Wheel - AM30120 Review

Today we're going to review part number AM30120. This is the Kenda 5.70-8" Bias Trailer Tire mounted on an 8" Dexstar white spoke wheel. We'll start with the rim dimensions on the wheel. This wheel is 8" in diameter, which would measure 8" inside-to-inside. It is 3-3/4" wide wheel. The bolt pattern on this wheel is 4 lug 4" bolt pattern.

Best way to measure a bolt pattern is from the center of whole of this lug hole directly across to the center of that lug hole. When we do that it will be 4", so the bolt pattern is 4 lug 4" bolt pattern. This wheel has a weight capacity of 910 pounds. The wheel bolt size is 1/2"-20. Another critical measurement will be the pilot hole diameter, which is the large hole at the center of the wheel.

This is what will go over the hub on your trailer. If we measure the diameter of that, it would be 2.5". This wheel has a white powder coat finish. Now, we move on to the tire. The tire is a Loadstar, size 5.70-8".

This is a load range C tire, which means it is 6 ply rated tire, has a maximum load carrying capacity of 910 pounds at 75 psi. This tire is of bias construction, which means the belts inside the tire will run the length of the tire. One more measurement we'll be doing is the overall diameter. Overall diameter on this will be 18". And this tire/wheel combo is covered by a limited 2-year warranty.

That should do it for part number AM30120.

Received Tire/Wheel assembly in perfect condition. Excellent price, fit and delivery. Really impressed! The tires and Wheels are going on a recently restored 4x8 utility trailer that belonged to my wife's dad that passed away. We use it to haul our Garden Tractor to cut our lawn down the Ocean that is 150 miles away every two weeks. I wanted a tire and wheel assembly that would match the older wheels and they do. Many thanks John And Sandy. 90611

The tires are holding up fine. I am extremely pleased with the quality ofthe tires. They are exactly as I ordered. It was indeed a pleasure tolocate your company on the internet. Ordering was easy and the qualityactually exceeded my expectation because I did not expect to get the qualitythat I received for the price that I paid. In addition, I was expecting toreceive the tires and wheels in about seven 7 business days but actuallyreceived the shipment in two 2 business days. Your company upgraded myshipment without any additional cost.Bottom line, I have added your company e-mail addressinfo to my favoritelist on my browser and will definitely be doing business with your companythe next time that I need tires.

My wife and I bought a used pop-up camper and ended up with a flat tire shortly after we got it home. I had priced tires locally and found out I could get a tire with a wheel @ etrailer.com for less than I could get just the tire here not to mention mounting the tire. So I bought two new tire and wheels and had them shipped to me in just a few days. The other reason I bought from etrailer.com was their product detail, mostly by videos. After watching quite a few videos I gained the knowledge to know exactly what I needed to buy for my immediate needs and I also found exactly what I need when I decide to do an over under axle flip in the not too distant future. I found the kit to do the flip plus I found the bigger 10" tire and wheel combo I will need so I can toss out the 8" wheels I have now. etrailer.com has a new life long customer. Thanks you for existing. :) PS: The quality, fit, and finish of the tires and wheels was excellent. 518255

Due to a tire emergency I had purchased another brand of tires from a local source just 3 years ago and they are already cracking. The spare tire for this trailer is a Kenda and it sits in the sun all day, was out of the 5year date and had no cracks at all. I have never bought trailer tires from other than etrailer except that once and I will never do it again, the price was higher and they did not last as long. I have therefore purchased these Kenda tires on rims and they came with a manufacture date of 2017 which gives me 5 years of use :-) I learned my lesson on tire purchase - only etrailer - Please see my other review of different trailer tires I purchased from etrailer at the same time (they are replacing the same tires I purchased from etrailer 5 years ago - always replace trailer tires within 5 years). 412211

Excellent tires and rims for a small boat trailer, the ones I replaced were old rusty rims and dry rotted tires . Great product and price I checked all over the internet and locally and could not bet the price. The lady took my order was very pleasant and knowledgeable. These were a great upgrade to the smaller tires that came with my 4'x8' trailer. Now I have a higher load rating, no speed restriction and the slightly larger diameter raises the trailer which levels it nicely and reduces wear on the bearings. And they were cheap! THANK YOU. 727072

Ordered and received promptly a pair of light utility trailer replacement tires. 1st time placing order with etrailer. Exceeded overall expectations from many. Web site flowed and worked well, many products not just tires. Check out was seamless and direct. Cost, product quality, over-all value and follow-up to the customer was rewarding to a first time buyer. I just got the two wheels for my utility trailer yesterday, arriving earlier than expected. I ordered wheels because the wheels (rims with tires) were actually cheaper than just the tires! What came was came exactly what I ordered, with no dents, scratches, or other defects with the tires or rims. My trailer's previous tires were TowMasters, so I will be interested to see how the Kenda LoadStars hold up. They have big shoes to fill - the wheels I took off were probably 30 years old and still held air! So perhaps etrailer will contact me in 20 or 25 years and ask me to update this review? Time will tell! 719886

The Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8-inch White Wheel # AM30120 has an overall diameter of just over 18-inches so for a fender you will want to use one of those shown on the linked page. These fenders fit this 8-inch size trailer wheel. You have choices in aluminum, plastic and steel fenders such as black plastic fender with step # F008559. • Will Trailer Wheel and Tire # AM30120 Fit Hub with Center Section that Measures 2-1/2 inches
If the center section of your hub is 2-1/2 inches wide and all of the other things you mentioned of the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30120 match this will fit and work well for you. The center hole of the wheel will fit right over the hub and fit just fine. In a lot of cases the pilot diameter is a bit bigger than needed, but in your situation where it fits exact it will work just fine. If anything it will make lining up the wheel on the lugs a bit easier.

  • Will Trailer Wheel with 2-1/2 Inch Pilot Hole Fit in Place of a Wheel with 2-3/4 Inch Pilot Hole
If the center part of the hubs on your trailer are 2-1/2 inches or smaller then tire and wheel combo # AM30120 will fit. A pilot hole can be larger than the hub center diameter if the wheel is held on to the hub with lug nuts. But if it attaches using wheel bolts instead of lug nuts then the pilot hole has to be exact because that is how it centers on the hub. At a 2-1/2 inch hub diameter and wheel pilot hole you would be good to go either way.

  • Which Load Range 5.70-8 Tire for 1500lb Pop-Up Camper
A 5.70-8 load range B tire has a capacity of 715 lbs, which is 1430 lbs per pair. If the weight of the trailer exceeds that amount, then you'd want to go with the load range C, with a 910 lb capacity (1820 per pair). Even if the weight of your trailer doesn't exceed the capacity of the load range B, I'd recommend going with the higher load range. If you just need the tire, go with part # AM10012. • What To Consider When Upsizing 4.80/4.00-8 Size Trailer Tires
When looking at putting larger tires on a trailer, it is important to ensure that there is sufficient clearance for the larger tire. We recommend having 4-1/2 inches of clearance between the tire tread and the fender/underside of the trailer. This clearance allows 1-1/2 inches for suspension travel and 3 inches for bump clearance. For the inside clearance, we typically like to see 2 inches between the tire sidewall and trailer. Your trailer's existing 4.80/4.00-8 size tires have an overall...

All of the trailer tires we carry are now rated for 65 miles per hour. The load range of a tire does not change its speed rating, so a B load range will have the same 65 mph speed rating as a C load range. For the Kenda 5.70-8 Bias Trailer Tire, # AM30120, that you have referenced, the tire has a capacity of 910 pounds at 75 psi. Trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum indicated psi rating for best performance and longer life.

  • Factors to Consider When Adding Larger Tires and Wheels to a Trailer
You can add larger wheels and tires to a trailer as long as you have enough room for the larger size. The main clearance issues we find when putting larger tires and wheels on a trailer is from the top of the tire to the fender and from the inside wall of the tire to the trailer wall/frame. The next factor that you will want to consider is the bolt pattern of the wheel. If your current wheels have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern, then the new wheels must have a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern as...

  • Recommended Clearance Between Trailer Frame Rail and Trailer Tire
The minimum distance between the inside of a tire and the frame rail depends a lot on the setup of the trailer. But as long as the tire and the frame don't touch you would be fine. It's hard to give an exact figure as trailer setups can vary and some trailers may have more side to side movement which would call for more clearance. If the suspension is good on the trailer and not worn out I would go with at least 1-1/2 inches to be on the safe side.

No, unfortunately it is not true that over-inflating a tire allows it to be driven faster, nor can it carry more weight. It is never appropriate to under- or over-inflate a trailer tire for any reason. Trailer tires should ALWAYS be inflated to the maximum cold psi pressure indicated on the tire sidewall. This means that at the start of the day when the tires are cold you want to ensure they have that full specified pressure, no more, no less. It is normal for tires to warm up from...
