Note: The overall capacity of this tire-and-wheel assembly is limited to the lowest rated component. Do not fill your tire to a pressure greater than that indicated on the tire itself or on the wheel that it is mounted to.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

The wheel & tire were an exact fit of the old wheels. The powder coat will last many years. The wiring harness in the picture was also from Etrailer.com. It simply just plugged it in (I loved that part). That's so much easier than hard wiring a harness to a vehicle. 106097

I normally don't reply to outfits that I purchase products from. however after dealing with "etrailer" I feel compelled to leave a review of their products and service...I am rebuilding an old motorcycle trailer and I recently purchased a set of trailer wheels w/ tires and bearing sets from them.... the products arrived w/in 3 days and were very reasonably priced... the great thing about them is.. I ordered the parts over the internet on Sunday afternoon, I didn't expect to hear from them until possibly Monday or Tuesday, I checked my messages SUNDAY evening and I had already received TWO reply's from etrailer folks.. one confirming that they had received the order and another one saying the parts had shipped.. also that they had changed my shipping to a priority shipment with no additional charge...... I received the parts on Wednesday morning....... the wheels and bearings were as they had advertised and were well packaged... They have an outstanding package tracking system (better then UPS's)... I highly recommend etrailer for trailer parts and will always use them when I need something they carry..... this is my second purchase from them and couldn't be more pleased... thanks guys.+++++ 92648

Such a deal! Discounted because they were mounted but never put on the road but still, look perfect! Must have been a demo or something. Absolutely no wear on the tread. Great shipping, love the boxes. I don't think I've ever purchased from etrailer before, but glad I did. Great company, so like The Terminator said, I will BE BACK! Thanks etrailer! 725791

This is the second set of these Kenda 6ply Hi Speed rated trailer tires I have purchased from etrailer.com. They’re used on my Vintage 1988 Coleman Columbia Camper I pull to road racing permanent tracks throughout the US during the summer. The first set lasted 5,000 miles. I use these tires on a utility trailer and a boat trailer. My usage is mostly in the summer and not a great deal. I do however put a heavy load on the utility trailer most of the time. The tires were used to replace worn and old, cracked ones. So far no issues. The air has stayed up all winter, which impresses me. I did buy a heavier load rating than what I was replacing. I recommend this because a few dollars now can save a big headache down the road. 611099

These wheels and tires are ideal for highway use for long trips. They say right on tire "High Speed Trailer". With the trailer with no cargo, it weighs 530 lbs. With a 600 to 700 lb load I am at capacity with old tires (590 lbs each). These new tires are Load Range C vs my old tires Load Range B. My new tires are 745 lbs range each. They have two extra plies on the side wall. I also updated the springs with the 750 pound range 3 leaf version I bought also from etrailer. The key to success is to inspect the trailer each time you use it for small starting cracks in trailer frame, loose hardware, low pressure in tires, lights, etc. 594013

Comments

The way that trailer tires are rated has changed over the years. Currently, the ply rating given to a tire doesnt necessarily reflect the number of layers or plies used to construct the tire. This tires rating is equal to the rating given to the rating a 6 ply tire under the old rating system.

The information on this site was readily available, very detailed, easy to understand, and easy to find. I highly recommend this site for your trailer needs! 580890

These wheels were a great replacement for my "tag-a-long" trailer that I will pull behind my motorcycle. I dressed them up a little as you can see in the picture by adding little black dots to the rim. From a distance they look like regular 12" or 13" rims with holes in them. 569479

Bought one of these to use as the spare for our tent camper. Saved a bunch of money by buying from etrailer rather than from the camper dealer. I was very satisfied with the service I received from etrailer.com. I ordered this set of trailer tires for my utility trailer on Tuesday, May 1 and choose the normal (cheapest) ground shipping method. I was pleased when I checked email just a few hours after I had placed my order and was notified that my shipping had been upgraded to three day shipping with no additional cost! I received the tires on Thursday, May 3 much earlier than I had expected. I would highly recommend this product for two reasons being: 1, The great low price for these tires only offered by etrailer.com, and 2, the great and speedy service I received from etrailer.com. I will be putting these tires on my 4'x 9' utility trailer and I hope to get plenty of use from them. I will definitely be shopping with etrailer.com again in the near future. 503883

I already had a pair of these on my vintage Alloy brand boat trailer. Bought this one so I'd have a matching spare. The 400-480 X 8 is not commonly available locally, most shops sell a wider 8" tire that won't clear my suspension. These fit well and I'm getting good tread wear. 489441

Ask the Experts about this Kenda Tires and Wheels

Do you have a question about this Tires and Wheel?

  • What is the Difference Between the Kenda AM30040 and the Kenda AM30000
  • Since prices fluctuate from time to time, the Kenda # AM30040 Load C, which is currently priced a little less than the Kenda # AM30000 Load B, is definitely the tire and wheel combination I would go with since it has a higher weight capacity. The only real differences that you will see is that the Load C tire will be able to stay a little cooler and handle higher weights with less stress. A few things you will want to keep in mind when operating; even though part # AM30040 has a higher...

  • Smallest Diameter Trailer Tire and Wheel with Max Capacity of 600 Pounds and 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
  • The smallest tire size we have that fits a wheel with a 4 on 4 bolt pattern and is rated for at least 600 pounds is 4.80/4.00-8 and has a load range of C. We carry two products that fit this: # AM30040 that is on a white powder coated wheel and # AM30050 on a galvanized wheel. Both have an outer diameter of 16.1 inches and a maximum capacity of 745 pounds at 90 psi.

  • Replacement Wheel and Tire for Motorcycle Cargo Trailer with 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
  • When you look at the trailer weight, you will want to make sure you account for the weakest part of the system as that will be your max capacity. If your tires are the lowest rated for load capacity, then you can upgrade the tires. It is not likely that you will be able to jump to 12 inch wheels as that is a really large jump which would take your overall wheel diameter from the 16.1 inches to about 22 inches. That isn't including the the 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 inches you will need above the...

  • How to Find Correct Replacement Tires for 4.80 - 8 4 Ply Trailer Tires
  • Your 4.80-8 size tire is the same as a 4.80/4.00-8 size tire. If the tires and rims are all original then we know they're compatibe with one another so there's no need to measure anything. It also says you have a 4-ply tire which is Load Range B. The tire probably mentions a maximum weight capacity as well which is better to use than the ply rating. Look for this number and make sure the tires you get are rated or at least as much capacity as what you have. Looking at your picture...

It has an outer diameter of 16.1 inches and a width of 4.7 inches when inflated to 90 psi. If you want the wheel along with the tire, we have the 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern # AM30040 or the 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern # AM30060. These tires are rated for a max speed of 65 mph.

  • Benefits of Using Higher Load Range Trailer Tires
  • Increasing a trailer's tire size can offer some potential advantages but it can also cause issues. Using a wider and/or larger diameter tire can mean clearance issues within the fender wells and at the leaf springs. It is important to have enough clearance above the tire tread to allow for suspension travel; at least 3-inches but more is better. The most common reason folks want to use larger tires is to reduce the chances of a blowout, which is certainly a very good motivation! But...

Each wheel will have a maximum load capacity of 745 lbs at 90 psi. This tire will have a diameter of 16.1 inches and a width of 4.7 inches. • Can Camper Trailer Weight Capacity Be Increased By Changing Tire Load Range Rating
  • Thank you for the photo of your camper trailer. When it comes to a trailer's weight carrying capacity the lowest-rated part of the trailer - either the frame, axle, hubs, wheels or tires - will determine if more capacity can be added. If the tires were the lowest-rated component then changing them to another size or simply to a higher load range in the same size could give you more capacity/safety margin. But if the tires are not the "weakest link" then upgrading them does not add capacity...

The trailer tires that we carry are rated for 65 miles per hour. You do not want to exceed the speed rating because it will build up excess heat. You should note that the wheel capacity is 910 lbs and the tire capacity 745 lbs at 90 psi. This means a couple things. Going with a higher capacity tire will not increase the gross trailer weight capacity. • You can check out the attached helpful article that explains how to determine the bolt pattern. You may find that the bolt pattern on your trailer is actually 4 on 4. I have attached a photo of a 4 bolt wheel we offer that shows where you measure. If you find you have a 4 on 4 bolt pattern, one of the 8 inch tire/wheel combinations I recommend is part # AM30000. this is a Load Range B, 4-ply tire that has a maximum load rating of 590 lbs at 60 lbs. For a combo that features a Load...

  • Is The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Inch White Wheel, # AM30040, Rated For The Highway
  • The Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Inch White Wheel, # AM30040, is highway rated. Trailer tires have a speed rating of 65 mph. Trailer tires are designed for carrying a maximum load at all times, so to do that they are reinforced in the sidewall. With the sidewall being reinforced, that causes the heat to build up more quickly at lower speeds with a load on the tires, so you will not want to run a trailer tire at higher speeds than the 65 mph speed limit.

  • How to Select Wheels and Tires for Older Motorcycle Trailer
  • We can help you select new tires and/or wheels for your older motorcycle trailer. The trailer should have a sticker or plate with its VIN and other information including its gross vehicle weight rating, GVWR. GVWR is the most the trailer can weigh when it is loaded. Once you find this information you will simply divide that weight capacity by the number of tires on the trailer; by two for a single axle and by 4 for a tandem axle trailer. So for instance if the trailer has a GVWR of...

  • Which 4.80 X 8 Size Tires Can Be Used On A Minuteman Trailer To Maximize Tire Tread Life
  • The 4.80x8 tire size has a overall diameter of 16.1 inches and a section width of 4.6 inches. I would not recommend going to the 5.70x8 size or the 215/60-8 size, because you would be increasing the overall diameter to 18.1 inches, which is 2 inches taller. When you go to a taller tire you are making the trailer taller and that will increase the chance of more sway, as well as possibly causing clearance issues. I would recommend going with the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire...

  • Recommended Replacement Tire and Wheel Combo for Tire Size 4.80/4.00-8
  • If you are looking for a replacement tire and wheel combo with the tire being a size 4.80/4.00-8 then we do have some possible solutions for you. If your current wheel uses a 4 on 4 bolt pattern then I recommend going with the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8" White Wheel # AM30040. This has a Load Range C which means that the max load for it is 745 lbs at 90 psi. If, however, your current wheel uses the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern you will want to go with the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8...

  • Are 15 Tires Available with a 4 Lug Wheels
  • While we do have 15" tires and wheels that have a 4 lug pattern none of them are compatible with each other. If you were to go with a 15" tire, like the Goodyear Endurance # 724861519 then the least amount of lugs is a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern like what you find with the combo # 724861519A. For a 4 on 4" bolt pattern the largest tire we have comes with the combo # AM3S120 which uses the Loadstar 175/80D13 bias trailer tire. If by chance you are talking about the total diameter of...

  • Difference In Diameter Between an 8 Inch Wheel with Tire and a 15 Inch Wheel with Tire
  • The height difference between an 8 inch wheel with tire and a 15 inch wheel with tire will really depend on the tire size on the wheel. It is true that an 8 inch wheel is 3-1/2 inches smaller in diameter than a 15 inch wheel, but with tires on the wheels the difference will likely be greater than 3-1/2 inches. For example, the Kenda 4.80/4.00-8 Bias Trailer Tire with 8 Inch Wheel # AM30040 when inflated has a diameter of 16.1 inches, while the Taskmaster ST205/75-15 Bias Trailer Tire...

  • Parts Needed to Rebuild Suspension of 4 x 9-Foot Utility Trailer
  • The 2200-lb-rated axle/hub kit # 20440I-EZ-60 should be fine for a 4 x 9 utility trailer. This kit includes 4-on-4 hubs that work with trailer wheels from 8- to 12-inches diameter, like # AM30040, but note these wheels/tires are rated for 745-lbs each so two of them can handle 1490-lbs, not 2200-lbs as the axle can. Keep this in mind as you load the trailer up; the weakest link determines overall capacity. Your trailer frame may be rated for more or less weight than these other parts. The...
