Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

I shop locally when I can, but it was difficult to find the load range E tires locally--actually impossible, as I tried tire dealers and boat dealers--nothing. etrailer had them in stock, and shipped them very quickly even though I chose regular shipping. And the website was very informative. 854373

Well I'm not sure how long the 2 tires for my trailer took to arrive after I ordered, but it wasnt long. Had some rims from the local RV outfit that came with the range C or D. I had em mounted and balanced. Never come balanced from the local. So I wanted to see if it made a smoother pull on the pavement and I believe it did, in conjunction with a much better looking heavier duty tire with a different tread pattern as well. I have a 7x14 custom utility trailer that's pretty heavy duty with a flipped 5' axle which puts me flush with the outer of the deck and the sidewalls. I'm hoping to get 3 of my trips out of these without any signs of needing replaced from wear and tear. Theres about 20 miles a trip on a rocky grated road that the C and Ds didnt handle too well after 2 or 3 of these treks. So that why 4 stars for now, but so far so good. If E-trailer will send me another review link in a year I will be happy to give a complete review then. 827998

  • Recommendation to Replace 20.5X8.0X10 Tires on Boat Trailer
Based on my research, the 20.5x8-10 tires on your trailer are equivalent to the 205/65-10 sized tires. For this size, I recommend the Kenda Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56. This bias ply tire has a maximum load of 1,650 pounds at 90 psi and a maximum speed rating of 87 mph. It also includes a limited 2-year warranty. If you need a tire and wheel combo, I recommend the Kenda Bias Trailer Tire with 10 Inch White Wheel # AM3H480 if you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern or...

You will then need to use tires that will fit 10 inch by 6 inch wheels and for that a great option is the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10 # AM1HP56. • Replacement 205/65-10 Tires for Apache Mesa Trailer
We do have exactly what you're looking for to replace the tires of your Apache Mesa Trailer, and occasionally across different years or owners replacing tires/wheels, sizes are going to vary. The biggest difference between these two tires is the size wheels they're mounted on (8 inch wheels vs 10 inch) and a slight difference in height/width. As long as you've got 205/65-10 tires currently, those are what you'd want to replace them with. To replace the 205-65-10 tires on your trailer...

  • Replacements for a 20.5 x 8 - 10 Trailer Tire
The modern equivalent of a 20.5 x 8 - 10 tire is a 205/65-10 tire. For a 205/65-10 tire, I recommend the Loadstar (Kenda) K399 Bias Trailer Tire part # AM1HP56. This tire has a bias ply, load range E (1,650 lbs) and speed rating N (87 mph). It also comes with a 2-year warranty. I have attached a review video of the tire in addition to our...

  • What Tire Pressure Should Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56 be Inflated to
The problem with running a lower PSI in a trailer tire is that it allows the sidewall to flex more which causes heat to build up and then eventually the tire fails. Kenda and us recommend always running the max PSI rating in the Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire # AM1HP56 of 90 psi.

The tire size of 20.5x8-10 is the same as the size 205/65-10 which for that we have the Loadstar part # AM1HP56 which has a weight capacity of 1,650 lbs at 90 psi and a higher speed rating of 87 mph so it's overall a really great option. This is the largest size for a 10 inch wheel though so it's probably easiest to stick with this option. Going to a larger size would require a new wheel and tire combo like the # AM31202 which is a tire size of ST145/R12 and is only about .8 of an inch taller.

They should last longer than 1,000 miles unless it was a really tough 1,000 miles. I mean extreme heat and rough terrain. To maximize the life of a trailer tire you should always have them inflated to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. In this case, # AM1HP56 is rated for 1,650 pounds at 90 psi. The tires are also rated for a maximum speed of 65 miles per hour. Going faster than that would increase the wear. If the tires are not wearing evenly all around the tire then there...

  • What are the Reasons my Pontoon Trailer Tires Keep Having Blowouts
There are a few possibilities that could be causing your trailer tires to blowout. First, the air pressure could be to high or to low. You would need to ensure you are inflating the tires to the maximum psi. Trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger tires. When they are underinflated the thicker sidewall causes excessive heat build up. Secondly, the tires could be overloaded. • What is the Speed Rating For Loadstar K399 Bias Trailer Tire - 205/65-10
The trailer tires that we carry, like # AM1HP56, are rated for up to 65 miles per hour. I do not recommend running then any faster than that because they can build up excess heat. Since trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than vehicle tires they also need to be inflated to the maximum psi as indicated on the tire. If under inflated this will lead to excessive heat build up and the tire can fail. I have included a link to our tire FAQ for you.
